It is located in the district of Søm in the borough of Oddernes in the city of Kristiansand. It is one of the churches for the Randesund parish which is part of the Kristiansand domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The red brick church was built in a fan-shaped design in 2004 using plans drawn up by the architects Arild Lauvland and Arne Åmland. The church seats about 450 people, but it can be expanded to seat up to about 650 people.

All local bus lines bound to Oddernes goes through Strømsdalen. There is a bank and a pizza restaurant at Strømsdalen, other than that Rona is the closest to a centrum.

The district is a part of the borough of Oddernes. Søm has borders with the district of Hånes to the north, the district of Randesund to the east and south, and the Topdalsfjorden to the west. Søm is the second most wealthy district in Kristiansand after Lund. Søm Church is located in the district.

The neighborhood lies north of the European route E18 highway, west of the Norwegian National Road 41, and east of the Topdalsfjorden. Vigvoll skole is the only junior high at Hånes. Bus line M2 goes through Vigvoll continuing to Hånes, Voiebyen, or Sørlandsparken. It includes a small shopping area known locally as Hånni.

Topdalsfjorden or Tofdalsfjorden is a fjord in the municipality of Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. The 12-kilometre (7.5 mi) long fjord runs from the village of Ålefjær south to the city centre of Kristiansand. The river Topdalselva empties into the fjord at the eastern side just south of the Kristiansand Airport, Kjevik. The European route E18 highway crosses the fjord on the Varodd Bridge.
