It is located in the district of Søm in the borough of Oddernes in the city of Kristiansand. It is one of the churches for the Randesund parish which is part of the Kristiansand domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The red brick church was built in a fan-shaped design in 2004 using plans drawn up by the architects Arild Lauvland and Arne Åmland. The church seats about 450 people, but it can be expanded to seat up to about 650 people.

Randesund is a former municipality that was located in the old Vest-Agder county in Norway. The 43-square-kilometre (17 sq mi) municipality existed from 1893 until its dissolution in 1965. The administrative centre was the village of Randesund where Randesund Church is located. The municipality was located in the southeastern part of the present-day municipality of Kristiansand, east of the Topdalsfjorden and south of the old municipality of Tveit. Since 1965, the area of Randesund has been the district of Randesund within the city of Kristiansand.

The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1864 using plans drawn up by the architect Christian Heinrich Grosch. The church seats about 450 people.The church was consecrated on 28 October 1864 by the Bishop Jacob von der Lippe. The church is surrounded by a cemetery.

The district is located within the borough of Oddernes along the southern coastline between the two fjords Kvåsefjorden and Topdalsfjorden and south of the districts of Søm and Hånes. The neighborhood of Strømsdalen lies to the north and Strømme lies to the south. The closest school is Strømme Elementary school. All local bus lines goes through Rona. Rona mall opened up in 2014 with some stores, a fitness center, and some apartments.
