Paruthippally CSI Church, part of the Church of South India (CSI) is one of the oldest congregations in South India having historical importance in Travancore state. The church was constructed during the period of His Highness Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma . The Paruthippally church was built with the leadership of Rev. John Cox London Missionary Society in Kerala. This church is a heritage site in Kuttichal.

G.Karthikeyan Smaraka Government Vocational and Higher Secondary School aka Government Model V HSS Vellanad is located amid of Vellanad, Thiruvananthapuram. The school started as a Lower Primary school in 1891, and from 1957 onwards, it became an Upper Primary school, and in 1962, it became the High School. In 1989, the VHSE Department started, and in 2000, the Higher Secondary Section was also launched. In 1998, the School won the PSSCIVE(Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education) Award. The school also won the State Award 2002-03 for establishing the best IT lab for the IT@School project. It also received Central Government's 2nd Computer Literacy Excellence Award for School-2003. In 2004, Principal K. S Vimalakumari was rewarded for the National Teachers Award. The school won the title 'MODEL' in the academic year 2012–2013. The school divided into four wings, such as Upper primary, High school, Higher secondary and Vocational higher secondary. The higher secondary wing offers courses for biology, computer science, commerce, humanities and most exclusively for journalism (under the Humanities group). Medical laboratory technician (MLT) and Livestock management (LSM) are the two courses offered in the vocational higher secondary wing. Later, the school was renamed as G. Karthikeyan memorial. Aneesh VN is the current PTA president.

The college offers undergraduate courses in various discipline including physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, Zoology and botany. Kattakada is a town in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. It is situated 13km north of Neyyattinkara town, 18km south of Nedumangad town and 20km east of Capital City Thiruvananthapuram. There is also a Tehsil/Taluk called Kattakada. It comprises 14 revenue villages and 12 Panchayats that surround the town. This taluk was formed in February 2014.The place name Kattakkada is derived from the Kattaal Devi Temple situated in the town. The word Kattaal in Malayalam translates to Wild Banyan Tree.

Vembannur is a village located in the Nedumangad taluk of the Thiruvananthapuram District in Kerala, India. Vembannur comes under the Aruvikkara panchayat of the Nedumangad Taluk. The main attraction of this small village is the Aruvikkara Dam. This dam was built by the rulers of the Travancore princely state to supply drinking water to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. As of 2012, the water from the dam's reservoir is still in use. The dam is small, with only 20 feet in height, but stores a good capacity of water. There is a bridge connecting Vembannur to the outside world in front of the Dam. A single-track bridge, which is the only road link to the outer world from this village.

Aruvikkara Dam (Malayalam : അരുവിക്കര അണക്കെട്ട്) is located in Aruvikkara in Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. This Gravity and Masonry dam was built across the Karamana River and was completed in 1972 is used for irrigation and supplying drinking water to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. The Aruvikkara dam project came up in the 1930s and has been supported by the Peppara dam built in 1983. The height of the dam is 14.01 meters (45.96 ft) and the length is 83.21 meters (273 ft). The Aruvikkara Dam meets the irrigation needs of Thiruvananthapuram. The reservoir is also one of the water tourism sites in Kerala.

Aruvikkara State assembly constituency is one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies at the state Kerala in southern India. It is also one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Attingal Lok Sabha constituency. As of the 2021 assembly elections, the current MLA is G. Steephen of Communist Party of India (Marxist).
