Oakengates railway station

Oakengates is a constituent town of Telford and a civil parish in the borough of Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire, England. The towns parish population was recorded as 8,517 in the 2001 census.

Oakengates Market Street railway station was a station in Oakengates, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1860 and closed in 1952. The station was demolished after closure and the site is now occupied by the A442.

Wrockwardine Wood (pronounced "Rock-war-dine") was originally a detached piece of woodland, then a township, formerly belonging to the manor and parish of Wrockwardine. Wrockwardine is located approximately 7 miles west from Wrockwardine Wood. Wrockwardine Wood is located in north east Telford in Shropshire and is bordered by Donnington, St Georges, Trench, The Nabb and Oakengates. The local government parish of Wrockwardine Wood and Trench comprises most of the Church of England parish of Wrockwardine Wood. In the eighteenth century industrial revolution Wrockwardine Wood was inhabited by coal and iron mine workers and their families. So many people had become Primitive Methodists that the Church of England set up a new parish in 1833 and built a very attractive red brick church (Holy Trinity). The 2 Methodist chapels recently closed, being replaced by Oakengates United Church (Methodist and United Reformed Church.)Wrockwardine Wood & Trench Parish Council has a Labour Party majority.

Telford Priory School is a coeducational secondary school located in the Wrockwardine Wood area of Telford in Shropshire, England. The school opened in September 2015 in a new campus, following the merger of Wrockwardine Wood Arts Academy (formerly Wrockwardine Wood Secondary School) and Sutherland Co-operative Academy. The school is sponsored by the Community Academies Trust.The school facilities include full size 3G Astro with the leisure centre next door holding a 400m athletics track, sports hall, 2 netball courts, fitness suite, dance studio and is located next to an indoor tennis centre and 4 outdoor courts. Telford Town Football Club is an English football club from Wellington, Shropshire but currently located in Telford. The club plays in the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One. After many years in the Wellington League, the team was promoted to the Shropshire County Football League. They were promoted to the West Midlands (Regional) League in 2006. "The Ams" won Division One three times in four seasons and gained promotion to the Premier Division for 2012–13. In 2024 the club was taken over by businessman and former Hednesford Town owner Hayden Dando and renamed Telford Town Football Club.

Wombridge Priory was a small Augustinian monastery in Shropshire. Established in the early 12th century, it was supported by a network of minor nobility and was never a large community. Despite generally good financial management, it fell within the scope of the Suppression of Religious Houses Act 1535 and was dissolved in the following year.

Telford and Wrekin is a borough and unitary authority in Shropshire, England. In 1974, a non-metropolitan district of Shropshire was created called The Wrekin, named after a prominent hill to the west of Telford. In 1998, the district became a unitary authority and was renamed "Telford and Wrekin", which remains part of the Shropshire ceremonial county and shares institutions such as the Fire and Rescue Service and Community Health with the rest the county. The borough's major settlement is Telford, which was designated a "new town" in the 1960s and incorporated the towns of Dawley, Madeley, Oakengates, and Wellington. After the Telford conurbation, which includes the aforementioned towns, the next-largest settlement is Newport which is located in the northeast of the borough and is not part of the original new town of Telford. The borough borders Staffordshire, but is surrounded by the unitary district of Shropshire which covers the area previously administered by Shropshire County Council.

To the south of the town, is the Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The M54 motorway was completed in 1983, improving the town's road links with the West Midlands conurbation, Wolverhampton is 19 miles (31 km) south east and Birmingham is 28 miles (45 km) in the same direction. In the 2011 census, the town had a population of 142,723 while in 2017, the wider borough had an estimated population of 175,271. It is the most populous settlement in Shropshire, Shrewsbury is second and is 15 miles (24 km) to the west of the town. It is near Staffordshire: Stafford is 21 miles (34 km) to the east and Stoke-on-Trent is 25 miles (40 km) north east from the town. The town is polycentric, having been designated under the New Towns Acts in 1963 and 1968 and developed between the 1960s to the 1970s. Centred on a shopping centre and a public park, the new town is named after Thomas Telford; a civil engineer to many road, canal and rail projects in the county. It was originally designated under the name Dawley New Town, Dawley being to the south of new-town’s centre. As well as multiple villages and Dawley, the other constituent towns are Wellington, Madeley and Oakengates.

St George's and Priorslee is a civil parish in the borough of Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire, England. St. George's and Priorslee are suburbs of Telford. The parish had a population of 11,033 at the 2011 census, and has an area of 2.05 sq mi (5.30 km2).The parish lies northeast of the Telford Town Centre and east of the town of Oakengates. The A5 runs through the area, and junction 4 of the M54 motorway is just to the south. The Priorslee area of Telford contains the Priorslee Campus of the University of Wolverhampton. At the centre of the Priorslee Campus is the grade II listed eighteenth century Priorslee Hall. The Priorslee area is also the site of major housing developments concentrating some of the more expensive housing in the town of Telford. There is also a primary school and a secondary school (Holy Trinity Academy). Priorslee is also famous for the Lion public house, on the Shifnal Road behind Priorslee Village. There is a parish council, the lowest tier of local government.The nearest railway stations are Oakengates and Telford Central.
