Consall railway station

Kingsley is a small village in the Staffordshire Moorlands near to Cheadle, and situated on the A52 from Stoke on Trent to Ashbourne. The civil parish population taken at the 2011 census was 2,204.Nowadays Kingsley is a quiet rural village, but until the early 20th century it was the centre of the Churnet Valley iron mining industry. Partly as a result the village then had many pubs but none exist today. The Bull's Head closed in 2019 and re-opened in October 2022 as a shop; The Old Swan Pub has been converted into a large family house; and The Plough has been demolished and houses have been built where the pub and its car park once were. There are no longer any other shops within the village when there once were butchers shops, grocery shops, a haberdashers etc. The village is close to Alton Towers. The one school is called St Werburghs Primary School, named after the local Church of England parish church.

Consall is a small village situated in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Staffordshire, England. It is approximately 6 miles south of the market town of Leek and 8 miles east of Stoke-on-Trent. According to the last Census taken in 2001, Consall had a population of 118, increasing to 150 at the 2011 census.Agriculture still plays a large part in the village, but the number of farms and workers has decreased over the years. The main area of agriculture around the Consall area is dairy farming. Consall has a relatively large number of visitor attractions considering the size of the village. Whilst in Consall you can visit Consall railway station, Consall Nature Park and also the recently opened Consall Hall Landscape Gardens. Consall Nature Park is situated in the Churnet Valley and has its own visitor centre along with a number of nature trails. During the summer the visitor centre is open every day and the trails range in length and difficulty for those who wish to simply have a leisurely stroll and also for those who wish for a more invigorating walk. Consall Hall Landscape Gardens are open to the public from April until October and are the result of over 50 years of design and planning by the current owner Mr William Podmore OBE. The gardens have a Tea room that is available during normal opening hours and the Gardens are also available for Civil Wedding ceremonies. Also in the Churnet Valley is Consall Forge Pottery where a craftsman potter makes and sells hand-thrown domestic stoneware ceramics. Consall Railway Station is on the Churnet Valley Railway network. The station was re-opened to passengers in July 1998 and it is possible to reach the villages of Froghall and Cheddleton from the station. For a considerable part of the journey the railway runs alongside the Caldon Canal, and about 1/2 mile further down the rough vehicle track past the Railway Station you will come to a mooring area for canal barges and also the Black Lion public house which you reach by crossing the bridge from the pub car park. Continuing past the Black Lion car park will bring you to Consall Lime Kilns. These lime kilns have recently been restored with assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund. These kilns date from the early 19th century and coal and limestone was bought along the canal to the kilns. The lime kilns ceased to be in use sometime in the mid to late 19th century.

Coombes Valley RSPB reserve (grid reference SK005525) is a nature reserve, run by the RSPB, near the town of Leek in Staffordshire, England. It is best known for its breeding woodland birds, including common redstart, wood warbler and pied flycatcher. It is also home to the nationally scarce argent and sable moth, a priority species in the UK's Biodiversity Action Plan.The Combes Brook flows through the valley on its way to the River Churnet.

Ipstones is a village and civil parish in the north of the English county of Staffordshire. Ipstones is part of the Staffordshire Moorlands district; within the boundaries of the civil parish are the hamlets Foxt, Consall Forge and Bottomhouse. Ipstones Edge, to the north of the village, rises to 1,250 feet (380 m) and gives views for many miles around. Ipstones is not mentioned in the Domesday book and dates from around the 12th century. The majority of the houses and farms, barring modern development, are built from local sandstone. Two sections of the village are designated as Conservation Areas with several listed structures contained within them. Ipstones was served by a railway station opened by the North Staffordshire Railway on 15 June 1905, on its line between Leekbrook Junction and Waterhouses. The station was closed to passengers on 30 September 1935. The buildings have been demolished but heritage trains of the Churnet Valley Railway now use the line again and there have been proposals to restore mineral trains to Caldon Low. Ipstones has three pubs, a butcher's, a corner shop, an agricultural supplies store, a church and a primary school.

Staffordshire Moorlands is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Karen Bradley, a Conservative who served as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport between 2016 and 2018, before she became Secretary of State for Northern Ireland from 2018 to 2019. As with all constituencies, the constituency elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election at least every five years. This seat has seen a swing to the Conservatives at the past four elections. Karen Bradley was re-elected in the 2019 general election, with an increased majority of 16,428 votes.

The Churnet Valley Railway is a preserved standard gauge heritage railway in the Staffordshire Moorlands of Staffordshire, England. It operates on part of the former Churnet Valley Line.which was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway. The railway is roughly 10.5 miles (16.9 km) long from Kingsley and Froghall to Ipstones. The land from Leek Brook Junction to Ipstones was opened by Moorland & City Railways (MCR) in 2010 after they took a lease out from Network Rail. This has subsequently been purchased by the Churmet Valley Railway. The main stations along the line are Kingsley and Froghall, Consall, Cheddleton and Leek Brook (which is only used as a run around loop). Work has begun to extend the line to the town of Leek which will act as the northern terminus of the line. The line between Leek and Waterhouses has also been reopened as part of the heritage railway far as Ipstones.

The Cheadle Coalfield is a coalfield in the United Kingdom. Centred on the town of Cheadle, Staffordshire and its outlying villages it lies to the east of Stoke-on-Trent and the much larger North Staffordshire Coalfield. The area has been mined for many years, with documentary evidence from Croxden Abbey citing coal mining in the 13th century.Deep mining ceased in 1965 with the closure of Foxfield Colliery by the National Coal Board. Private adit mining and opencast mining ceased in 1994 with the exhaustion of economic reserves.

Froghall is a village situated approximately ten miles to the east of Stoke-on-Trent and two miles north of Cheadle in Staffordshire, England. Population details as taken at the 2011 Census can be found under Kingsley. Froghall sits in the Churnet Valley, a beautiful and relatively unspoilt part of Staffordshire. There are some excellent and challenging walks in the area, many of which encompass the area's historic development by the coal, ironstone, copper and limestone industries.

The Uttoxeter Canal was a thirteen-mile extension of the Caldon Canal running from Froghall as far as Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, England. It was authorised in 1797, but did not open until 1811. With the exception of the first lock and basin at Froghall, it closed in 1849, in order that the Churnet Valley line of the North Staffordshire Railway could be constructed along its length. The railway has since been dismantled and there are plans to reinstate the canal.
