Dieburg

Dieburg station is located in the town of Dieburg in the German state of Hesse on the Rhine-Main Railway (German: Rhine-Main-Bahn), which runs from Mainz via Darmstadt to Aschaffenburg. The Rodgau Railway from Offenbach am Main now ends here. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. It is served only by local trains.

Groß-Zimmern is a municipality in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg, in Hessen, Germany. It is situated 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of Darmstadt and right next to Dieburg. In 1846, over 700 town residents emigrated in the Great Migration to New York City. The town paid for the passage of 674 passengers and about 100 more paid their own way. The emigrants sailed on at least five ships – the Atlas (46%), the Sardinia (37%), the Manchester (6%), the Montezuma (7%), and the Pontiac (6%). 425 of the emigrants had no funds or food when they landed in New York city and entered the Bellevue Almshouse which overloaded the capacity of the Almshouse. New York City petitioned the US Congress to pass laws that would prevent the arrival of paupers on overcrowded ships to the United States.

Münster is a municipality in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Hessen, Germany. It has a population of 14,610 (as of 2016). It is situated 3 km north of Dieburg, and 24 km southeast of Frankfurt. The town was first mentioned in documents over 750 years ago. In 1971 the adjacent town of Altheim agreed to become part of Münster.

It is the southern terminus of line S1 of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn and a stop for Regionalbahn services on the Dreieich Railway. It is classified in station category 4 and is a hub for public transport. The station building is a listed building.

The Mainzer Berg is a forested hill between the cities of Darmstadt and Dieburg in the southern part of Hesse, Germany. It is part of the northernmost ridge of the Odenwald range and there is a telecommunication tower of 96 meter height on its top. Just two kilometres northwest of the hill is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Messel pit.

Groß-Umstadt is a town in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in the Bundesland (federal state) of Hesse in Germany. It is near Darmstadt and Frankfurt, in the southeastern part of the Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region, just north of the Odenwald mountain range. The population is about 21,000. Half of them live in Groß-Umstadt itself, the remainder in eight other districts which were incorporated by the Hesse State Municipal Reform Act in the 1970s: Dorndiel Heubach Kleestadt Klein-Umstadt Raibach Richen Semd Wiebelsbach (also includes village Frau-Nauses).

Otzberg is a municipality in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg, located in the Odenwald forest region of Germany. It was founded in 1972 by the merger of six former independent municipalities. Otzberg consists of seven villages: Habitzheim, Hering, Lengfeld with Zipfen, Nieder-Klingen, Ober-Klingen and Ober-Nauses, and Schloss-Nauses. One place of interest in Otzberg is its eponymous castle, a medieval fortress that was first mentioned in 1231. It is widely known for its white tower. The castle itself has been slowly reconstructed to resemble its medieval appearance.

The Messel pit (German: Grube Messel) is a disused quarry near the village of Messel (Landkreis Darmstadt-Dieburg, Hesse) about 35 km (22 mi) southeast of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Bituminous shale was mined there. Because of its abundance of well-preserved fossils dating from the middle of the Eocene, it has significant geological and scientific importance. Over 1000 species of plants and animals have been found at the site. After almost becoming a landfill, strong local resistance eventually stopped these plans and the Messel pit was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 9 December 1995. Significant scientific discoveries about the early evolution of mammals and birds are still being made at the Messel pit, and the site has increasingly become a tourist site as well.
