Burgess Park

The Carnaval del Pueblo is a festival celebrating Latin American culture, held in Burgess Park, London in the first week of August.The carnival features a spectacular procession of exotic floats, costumes, musicians and dancers, making their way through London Bridge, along Borough High Street, Elephant and Castle and Walworth Road, finally arriving in Burgess Park. The event incorporates elements of Latin American culture, featuring dance rhythms, food and music. Throughout the day, a mixture of musicians perform on the four stages set up around the park. In 2006, there were appearances from Puerto Rican reggaeton star Andy Boy and the Colombian all-woman orchestra Canela, among many others. U.K Reggaeton acts Flow Latino & D-KeL performed at the Carnival Del Pueblo 2007, after which, they got widespread recognition, resulting in them forming their debut production and music video companies. The festival has enabled both acts as well as other upcoming artists to champion Latin urban music in the U.K. and gain airplay at a number of radio stations and clubs in London. In 2011, the carnival was cancelled due to public works in the park. The festival returned to Burgess Park in 2014.

The Southwark School's Learning Partnership is a collaboration of ten schools — seven state and three independent — based in Southwark, a borough of south London, England. The partnership was founded in 2003.

Newington Workhouse was an institution for indoor relief of the poor at 182 Westmoreland Road, (now Beaconsfield Road), Walworth, London, in what is now the London Borough of Southwark. It became the Newington Lodge Public Assistance Institution in 1930, and was converted into social housing in 1948. The building was demolished in 1969.

The Aylesbury Estate is a large housing estate located in Walworth, South East London. The Aylesbury Estate contains 2,704 dwellings, spread over a number of different blocks and buildings, and was built between 1963 and 1977. There are approximately 7,500 residents. The estate is currently undergoing a major regeneration programme. Major problems with the physical buildings on the estate and the poor perception of estates in Britain as a whole have led to the Aylesbury Estate gaining the title of "one of the most notorious estates in the United Kingdom". It has often been called the largest public housing estate in Europe, although this is difficult to verify with any accuracy. In 1997, Tony Blair chose to make his first speech as Prime Minister here, in an effort to demonstrate that the government would care for the poorest within society. The estate is often used as a typical example of urban decay. The Aylesbury Estate is an ethnically diverse area: according to the most recent census, around 25% of respondents were White British, with Black ethnic groups accounting for over half of all respondents. Around a third (34%) of residents are of school age, and fewer than 1 in 10 are aged 65 or above. Nearly two-thirds of respondents identified themselves as being Christian, with 17% being Muslim.

Surrey Square is a garden square in Walworth in the London Borough of Southwark. Located just off the Old Kent Road it was laid out in the 1790s to designs by the architect Michael Searles, who also oversaw the nearby Paragon at what is now Bricklayers Arms. The square takes its name from the county of Surrey in which Walworth was traditionally located. When built it would have been semi-rural and designed to provide upmarket housing for the expanding population of the capital. Within two years of the first stone being laid in 1792 it was fully occupied. Amongst notable early residents was the painter Samuel Palmer who was born there in 1805.While northern side of the square was filled with terraced housing, the other three were initially open spaces. They were slowly filled with individual houses and All Saints Church. The square, already oblong-shaped came to and less and less resemble a traditional square as more buildings were added to fill up the middle section, part of which is now known as Surrey Square Park. Surrey Square Primary School is located on the northern side.

The Lord Nelson is a Grade II listed public house at 386 Old Kent Road, Bermondsey, London.It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.It was built in the early 19th century.

South Bank University Academy is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in the Walworth area of the London Borough of Southwark, England.It opened as an academy in 2014 and is part of South Bank Academies (sponsored by London South Bank University). A 2017 Ofsted report rated the school as "Good".

Brunswick Park is a 4-acre (1.6 ha) public park located in Camberwell, in South East London, and is managed by the London Borough of Southwark. Originally a private square, the park was opened to the public in 1907.

The Lakanal House fire occurred in a tower block on 3 July 2009 in Camberwell, London. Six people were killed, and at least twenty injured, when a high-rise fire, caused by a faulty television set, developed and spread through a number of flats in the twelve-storey building.
