Buckton, Northumberland

Middleton is a settlement and civil parish in Northumberland, England. The parish is situated on the North Sea coast, south of the island of Lindisfarne, and contains the villages of Ross, Detchant and Elwick; all are shrunken medieval villages. Both the A1 London to Edinburgh road and East Coast Main Line pass through the parish. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 136, falling to 115 at the 2011 Census.

Smeafield railway station served the farmstead of Smeafield, Northumberland, England from 1871 to 1930 on the East Coast Main Line.

Fenwick is a small hamlet in the civil parish of Kyloe near Berwick-upon-Tweed and has a population of approx 400. Fenwick lies only three miles from Holy Island, Lindisfarne and the world-famous heritage coastline. Fenwick lies alongside St Cuthberts Way, on which the monk St Cuthbert made his passage through Fenwick to the Holy Island. Fenwick's location meant it saw its fair share of skirmishes during the border raids from Scots.

Middleton Hall is a country house near the settlement of Middleton, Northumberland, in that parish, that dates from 1871. It is listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England.Middleton Hall sits on a private 30 acres (0.12 km2) estate which includes two large lakes. The Main Hall has 10 bedrooms and is currently being operated as an exclusive hire multiuse estate. It currently has three other properties on its grounds: a boathouse, a folly and the Lake Cottages. The hall recently featured in The Times Best 100 British Holiday destinations.

Islandshire was an area of Northumberland, England, comprising Lindisfarne or Holy Island, plus five parishes on the mainland. It is historically associated with the Bishop of Durham, and was administratively an exclave of the County Palatinate of Durham. It was transferred to the county of Northumberland by the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844, becoming a hundred. It formed part of the Norham and Islandshires Rural District from 1894 until 1974, and then formed part of the borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed district within the County of Northumberland. In 2009 the borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed was abolished as part of wider structural changes to local government in England, with the area now falling under the unitary council of Northumberland County Council. The area, combined with Norham, still forms one of the unitary council's electoral divisions today. It consisted of the parishes of Ancroft, Belford, Elwick, Holy Island, Kyloe and Tweedmouth.

Beal is a village in Northumberland, in England. It is situated a short distance inland from the North Sea coast, and lies on the link road between the A1 and Lindisfarne. The East Coast Main Line runs to the west of the village but the station was closed in the 1960s. The station site has been landscaped and includes a Peckett 0-4-0ST steam locomotive and an ex-North Eastern Railway cast metal warning sign.

Beal railway station, also known as Beal for Holy Island railway station, was a railway station that served the village of Beal, Northumberland, England from 1847 to 1968 on the East Coast Main Line.

Westhall is a privately owned 19th-century castellated house at Belford in Northumberland, England now in use as a farm. It is on a site with older historical associations.

Holburn Lake and Moss is a nature reserve in Northumberland, England to the east of the village of Holburn. Nearby is St Cuthbert's Cave.

Colour Heugh and Bowden Doors are two crag rock formations in north Northumberland in North East England, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The 11.3 hectares (28 acres) site is described as "arguably the most impressive exposures of the early-mid Dinantian Fell Sandstone Group in the whole of northern England".

Belford Hall is a Grade I listed building, an 18th-century mansion house situated at Belford, Northumberland. The Manor of Belford was acquired by the Dixon family in 1726, and in 1752 Abraham Dixon built a mansion house in a Palladian style to a design by architect James Paine. In 1770 heiress Margaret Dixon married William Brown. Their daughter later married Newcastle upon Tyne merchant, Lt. Col. William Clark, Deputy Lieutenant and High Sheriff of Northumberland who, in 1818, remodelled the house and added two new wings, with the assistance of architect John Dobson. An extensive park, created in the mid 18th century, retains several original features and has been designated a conservation area. An 18th-century folly in the park is a Grade II listed building. During World War II the Hall was requisitioned by the army and became neglected and dilapidated. In the 1980s it was acquired by the Northern Heritage Trust, renovated, restored, and converted to residential apartments. A golf course was created on a part of the park.

Belford is a village and civil parish in Northumberland, England, about halfway between Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed, a few miles inland from the east coast and just off the Great North Road, the A1. At the 2001 census it had a population of 1,055, increasing to 1,258 at the 2011 Census.Belford is surrounded by rich pastoral farmland, and to the west of the village is found one of the better rock climbing locations in the county, Bowden Doors.
