Mastwijk

Heeswijk is a village in the central Netherlands. It is located in Montfoort, Utrecht, about 6 km northwest of IJsselstein. The village is first mentioned in 1204 as Hesewic, and means "settlement near shrubbery". The postal authorities have placed it under Montfoort, and it has no place name signs. It used to have a parish church, but the church was moved to neighbouring Montfoort. In 1840, Heeswijk was home to 59 people.

Harmelen is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 6 km east of Woerden. In 2001, the town of Harmelen had 6557 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.11 km², and contained 2481 residences.Harmelen is on the railway line between Utrecht and Woerden; its train station was opened on 21 May 1855 and closed on 15 May 1936. In 1962, two passenger trains collided near Harmelen. The Harmelen train disaster, resulting in 93 fatalities, was the largest train accident in Dutch history. The village used to be a separate municipality, until it merged with Woerden in 2001. Before the merger the municipality of Harmelen had about 8000 inhabitants.

Between 1818 and 1857, Achthoven was a separate municipality; it merged with Linschoten in 1857.Achthoven is sometimes divided into two hamlets: Achthoven-West and Achthoven-Oost.It was first mentioned in 1306 as "van dien achtehoeven", and means "eight parcels of land". The Leidse Rijn (Dutch for "Leiden's Rhine") is a canal in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands. It was dug since the Middle Ages when the meandering old Rhine course silted up. The Leidse Rijn has a length of 13 km. Towns along the Leidse Rijn are De Meern and Harmelen. While still in Utrecht city the Leidse Rijn crosses the Merwede Canal and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. It is the continuation of the Kromme Rijn (Crooked Rhine) through the moat system of Utrecht. The canal ends in Harmelen. There it connects to the Oude Rijn, which eventually flows into the North Sea at Katwijk aan Zee. The canal gives its name to the Utrecht neighborhood of Leidsche Rijn.
