Heeswijk, Utrecht

Mastwijk is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Montfoort, and lies about 6 km southeast of Woerden. It was first mentioned in 1217 as Mastwyck. Wijk means settlement, but mast either means pole or fodder. Mastwijk used to have its own place name sign, however nowadays it reads Montfoort. The polder around Mastwijk is situated dates around 1200. Schurenburg was a fortified house which was first mentioned 1341. It was demolished in the 18th century. The farm on the estate still bears the name. In 1840, Mastwijk was home to 44 people.

Blokland has a population of around 160.Blokland was a heerlijkheid (manor), covering the entire polder "Blokland", which is the area south of the Bloklandse Dijk.When the current municipal system was introduced in the Netherlands in 1812, Blokland became part of the municipality Montfoort for a short while. It was part of the municipality of Willeskop between 1818 and 1989, when that municipality was merged with Montfoort.The hamlet was first mentioned in 1261 as Blokelant, and means enclosed land. The postal authorities have placed it under Montfoort. Blokland has no place name signs. In 1840, it was home to 142 people.

Reijerscop is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 12 km west of Utrecht. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1217 as Reynerscoep, and means "concession of Reyner (person)". Reijerscop has unofficial place name signs. In 1840, it was home to 31 people.

Between 1818 and 1857, Achthoven was a separate municipality; it merged with Linschoten in 1857.Achthoven is sometimes divided into two hamlets: Achthoven-West and Achthoven-Oost.It was first mentioned in 1306 as "van dien achtehoeven", and means "eight parcels of land". Achthoven is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Montfoort. It has place name sign, however they read Montfoort. In 1840, it was home to 105 people. Nowadays, it consists of about 60 houses.

Cattenbroek is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Montfoort, and lies about 4 km east of Woerden. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1217 as Cattenbroec, and means inferior swampy land. The postal authorities have placed it under Linschoten. Cattenbroek does not have place name signs. In 1840, it was home to 75 people. There is a public beach on the lake near Cattenbroek.

Harmelen is a town in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 6 km east of Woerden. In 2001, the town of Harmelen had 6557 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 1.11 km², and contained 2481 residences.Harmelen is on the railway line between Utrecht and Woerden; its train station was opened on 21 May 1855 and closed on 15 May 1936. In 1962, two passenger trains collided near Harmelen. The Harmelen train disaster, resulting in 93 fatalities, was the largest train accident in Dutch history. The village used to be a separate municipality, until it merged with Woerden in 2001. Before the merger the municipality of Harmelen had about 8000 inhabitants.

The hamlet was first mentioned between 1280 and 1287 as Hermaelrewart, and means "land near water belonging to Harmelen". It is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Harmelen. It has no place name signs. In 1840, Harmelerwaard was home to 40 people. Nowadays, it consists of about 80 houses.

The Leidse Rijn (Dutch for "Leiden's Rhine") is a canal in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands. It was dug since the Middle Ages when the meandering old Rhine course silted up. The Leidse Rijn has a length of 13 km. Towns along the Leidse Rijn are De Meern and Harmelen. While still in Utrecht city the Leidse Rijn crosses the Merwede Canal and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. It is the continuation of the Kromme Rijn (Crooked Rhine) through the moat system of Utrecht. The canal ends in Harmelen. There it connects to the Oude Rijn, which eventually flows into the North Sea at Katwijk aan Zee. The canal gives its name to the Utrecht neighborhood of Leidsche Rijn.

Benschop is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Lopik, and lies about 4 km west of IJsselstein. Benschop is an extremely long village: apart from a relatively compact town centre, it consists of a long ribbon (over 8 km long) of houses (mainly farms) on both sides of the Benschopsche Wetering. Until 1989, Benschop was a separate municipality.

Breudijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Woerden, and lies about 5 km northeast of Woerden. The statistical district "Breudijk", which covers the hamlet and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 190.

Veldhuizen is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the municipality of Utrecht, south of De Meern. It is also the name of a new neighbourhood of Utrecht, built close to the hamlet. Veldhuizen was a separate municipality between 1818 and 1954, when it became a part of Vleuten-De Meern.
