Brooklin High School

Brooklin is a community in the town of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, north of central Whitby, at the south junction of Ontario Highways 12 and 7. While the area of Brooklin proper is confined to a specific area, the general area surrounding Brooklin largely identifies as "Brooklin" rather than "Whitby". Brooklin was located primarily in rural area about two decades ago, but it is now part of the urban Whitby, with high population growth and infrastructure development. Brooklin is surrounded with hills covering the north and the west. The hills and the forests that dominate the north are part of the South Slope of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It is located within the Lynde Creek Watershed which retains 19 to 26% of its forest cover. The population has grown rapidly since the early 1990s, with the addition of thousands of homes, predominately subdivisions, surrounding the heart of Brooklin.

Whitby is a federal electoral district (riding) in Ontario consisting of the entire town of Whitby, Ontario. The boundaries for Whitby were created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and were legally defined in the 2013 representation order. The riding came into existence upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election in October 2015. It was created out of the district of Whitby—Oshawa. It is a key Liberal-Conservative marginal seat.

Whitby is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was previously represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as Whitby-Oshawa. The new riding was created through the 2015 Representation Act for the 2018 provincial election, with the district losing some territory to the district of Oshawa to more closely align to the actual town's borders.

Heber Down Conservation Area is located in Whitby, Ontario and is owned and operated by Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority. It is located within the Lynde Creek drainage basin; it is a part of the provincially significant Heber Down Wetland Complex. The area is composed of two types of broad terrain units: a valley formed by the creek and the Glacial Lake Iroquois beach. The area provides such recreational activities as hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, and fishing.

Myrtle Station is a community in the Town of Whitby, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. Myrtle Station is located approximately one kilometre north of the community of Myrtle. In 1884, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) built a rail line between Toronto and Montreal through the area. A railway station was constructed and the community that grew in the vicinity was known as Myrtle Station. The community was originally part of Whitby Township and became part of the Town of Whitby when the two municipalities amalgamated in 1968. From 1994 until 2004 Myrtle Station hosted the annual Grasstock music and arts festival. The CPR line remains, but now ends in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen.

Sinclair Secondary School is located in Whitby, Ontario and opened in 1994. Serving both Special Education and French Immersion students, the school is recognized for its strong academic reputation and remains the highest ranked school in the Durham Region, according to the Fraser Institute's Ontario Secondary School Report Card program.

The Durham District School Board (DDSB, known as English-language Public District School Board No. 15 prior to 1999) is a public school board in the province of Ontario, Canada. The board serves most of the Regional Municipality of Durham, except for schools within the Municipality of Clarington, which instead belong to the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. The Durham District School Board Education Centre head office is based in Whitby. The school board has families of schools Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and Brock-Uxbridge-Scugog, each of which has two trustees except Oshawa, which has three. Three student trustees, using a non-binding, recorded vote, represent the region of Durham. In total the school board has more than 7000 staff who serve approximately 46,000 elementary and 24,000 secondary school students. Previously known as the Ontario County Board of Education, the board was known as the Durham Region Board of Education when it came into existence in 1974. The DRBE was renamed to the Durham District School Board in 1998 and francophone schools that were managed by this board are now part of Conseil scolaire Viamonde. A unique program to the Durham District School Board that is running in a number of its secondary schools is called the Culture of Peace Committee, which works on a wide variety of social and humanitarian issues within the schools and in the community. The Durham District School Board operates a gifted program in select schools. This program for students in grades 4–12 entails material being taught at an accelerated rate. Acceptance into the program is based on ranking in the top 1% of a test in mathematics, logic and literacy during grade 3.

Cullen Gardens & Miniature Village was a popular tourist attraction in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. Officially opened in May 1980 by founder Len Cullen and his wife, Connie, the Gardens were a major tourist attraction in Whitby for 25 years.

Ashburn is a hamlet in the town of Whitby, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada, located approximately 15 kilometres north of the town core, and centred on the intersection of Ashburn Road and Myrtle Road. It is a rural settlement area on the Oak Ridges Moraine, situated on the headwaters of the Lynde Creek watershed and part of Ontario's protected Golden Horseshoe Greenbelt.

Central Ontario is a secondary region of Southern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario that lies between Georgian Bay and the eastern end of Lake Ontario. The population of the region was 1,123,307 in 2016; however, this number does not include large numbers of seasonal cottage country residents, which at peak times of the year swell its population to well in excess of 1.5 million. Although it contains many small and medium-sized urban centres, much of Central Ontario is covered by farms, lakes (with freshwater beaches), rivers or sparsely populated forested land on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield.

Whitby Township is a geographic township and former municipality in what was Ontario County (now Durham Region), Ontario, Canada. It is now part of the Town of Whitby. The Township was established in 1792 (1792) as part of what was then York County. Whitby Township was one of five townships along Lake Ontario named for towns in northeast England (York, Scarborough, Pickering, Whitby and Darlington). In 1852, the Township became part of the newly formed County of Ontario. In 1855, the Town of Whitby was incorporated as a separate municipality in the southern portion of the Township and in 1858, the Township of East Whitby was formed from the eastern portion of the municipality near Oshawa. Whitby Township was mainly a rural municipality, but contained the communities of Brooklin, Ashburn, Myrtle and Myrtle Station. The Township was amalgamated with Whitby in 1968 to form an expanded Town of Whitby.
