Zuid-Beijerland is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard, and lies about 10 km south of Spijkenisse. The village was originally called Den Hitsert. The current name was first used between 1839 and 1859. It is named after the eponymous polder. Zuid (south) has been added to distinguish from Oud-Beijerland and Nieuw-Beijerland. Zuid-Beijerland developed as a dike village after the polder was enclosed with a dike in 1631. It became an independent parish in 1671. The Dutch Reformed church is a cruciform church with needle spire which was built in 1933 after its predecessor burnt down.Zuid-Beijerland was home to 798 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality until 1984, when it became part of Korendijk, which itself later became Hoeksche Waard.

Hitsertse Kade is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland and is part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. Hitsertse Kade is not a statistical entity, and is considered part of Klaaswaal. It has a little marina and some holiday homes.

Zuidzijde is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard and lies approximately 7 km (4 miles) south of Spijkenisse. Zuidzijde is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Nieuw-Beijerland and Zuid-Beijerland. It has place name signs, and consists of about 100 houses. On 27 August 2022 seven people died in Zuidzijde when a truck drove off a dike into a neighborhood party.

Bommelkous is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland and is part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. Bommelkous is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Klaaswaal. It has no place name signs, and consists of about 50 houses.

The Hoekse Waard (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦuksə ˈʋaːrt]; pre-1947 spelling: Hoeksche Waard) is an island between the Oude Maas, Dordtsche Kil, Hollands Diep, Haringvliet and Spui rivers in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. The island, part of the namesake municipality of Hoeksche Waard, is a mostly agricultural region, south of the outskirts of Rotterdam. The Hoeksche Waard consists of reclaimed land (polders): after the Saint Elisabeth flood of 1421 most of the area was flooded. The land has been reclaimed gradually in the following centuries.

Cromstrijen (Dutch: [krɔmˈstrɛiə(n)] ; Cromstrien in local dialect) was a municipality on the Hoeksche Waard Island in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of 70.33 km2 (27.15 sq mi) of which 15.96 km2 (6.16 sq mi) is water. It was formed on 1 January 1984, when the municipalities on the Hoeksche Waard were merged into larger municipalities. On 1 January 2019 it was merged with the municipalities of Binnenmaas, Korendijk, Oud-Beijerland, and Strijen to form the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. The municipality of Cromstrijen consists of the communities Klaaswaal and Numansdorp (townhall). Its population was data missing in 2021.

Numansdorp is a town and former municipality in the province South Holland in the Netherlands and is located on the island Hoeksche Waard near the Hollands Diep. On 1 January 1984, the municipalities Numansdorp and Klaaswaal were merged into one municipality called Cromstrijen. Cromstrijen was merged into the new municipality Hoeksche Waard in January 2019.

The Volkerakdam (English: Volkerak Dam) or Volkerakwerken (Volkerak Works) is the name given to a group of hydraulic engineering structures located between Goeree-Overflakkee and North Brabant in The Netherlands. The works are not a single dam, but are composed of three distinct structures: a dam between Goeree-Overflakkee and Hellegatsplein, a series of locks from Hellegatsplein to North Brabant, and a bridge from Hellegatsplein to Hoekse Waard. The works cross three separate bodies of water: the Haringvliet, Hollands Diep and Volkerak. The works together comprise the fifth project of the Delta Works. The works were conceived in response to the North Sea flood of 1953, as a result of which it was decided to close the inlets in Zeeland and South Holland. The committee which oversaw the Delta Works concluded that it was necessary to construct two compartmentalisation dams, the Grevelingendam and the Volkerakdam, in order to close the inlets. It was also deemed necessary to separate the Haringvliet from the waters to the south, in order to ensure the transport of drift ice from the Hollands Diep to the sea, and to keep the water quality of the (planned) Zeeland Lake acceptable, preserving it from contaminated Rhine water. In addition, a fixed water level on the Zeeland Lake was desirable for the purpose of shipping between Antwerp and Rotterdam, as the water level on the Haringvliet would vary due to the varying discharge of the Rhine. The construction of the Volkerakdam modified tidal movements across the entire area of the lower rivers, with extensive calculations made using the Deltar analogue computer to analyse these tidal variations.The Volkerakdam has a supporting environmental function with regard to the primary dams of the Oosterscheldekering, the Brouwersdam and the Haringvlietdam, controlling volumes of freshwater from the Maas and the Waal which enter the waters around Zeeland. As a result of the closure of the Volkerak, the volume of fresh Rhine water entering the estuary decreased. Consequently, the salinity of the Oosterschelde remained relatively constant, increasing the ecological value of the estuary.The Volkerakdam works also removed the difficulties experienced by shipping from the limited (but very unpredictable) tidal currents in the Hellegat, which had previously resulted in many ships being lost.

Nieuwendijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard and lies about 9 km south of Spijkenisse. Nieuwendijk was severely damaged during the North Sea flood of 1953, and 36 emergency houses were donated by Norway to the village. It has a little church, but it has been vacant since 2018.Nieuwendijk is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Zuid-Beijerland and Goudswaard. It has no place name signs, and consists of about 150 houses.

Zwartsluisje is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard and lies about 7 km (4 mi) south of Spijkenisse. Zwartsluisje is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Zuid-Beijerland and Piershil. It has place name signs, and consists of about 115 houses.

Tiengemeten is an island in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard and lies about 11 km (7 mi) south of Spijkenisse. Before 1984 the island was administratively split between Goudswaard and Zuid-Beijerland, and until 2019 it was part of the municipality of Korendijk. The name Tiengemeten refers to an ancient area measurement; one gemet is comparable with one acre so the name means ten-acre island. Ten gemets would be about 100 by 400 metres (330 by 1,310 feet), while the island is actually about 7 km (4 mi) long and 2 km (1 mi) across at its widest. The statistical area "Tiengemeten" had a population of around 10 until 2007. On 10 May 2007, the island was officially allowed to revert to its natural state after its inhabitants were relocated.The Rien Poortvliet museum is located on the island.
