Kerkrade (Ripuarian: Kirchroa; Limburgish: Kirkraoj; German: Kerkrade or Kirchrath) is a town and a municipality in the southeast of Limburg, the southernmost province of the Netherlands. It forms part of the Parkstad Limburg agglomeration. Kerkrade is the western half of a divided city; it was part of the German town of Herzogenrath until the Congress of Vienna in 1815 drew the current Dutch-German border and separated the towns. This means that the eastern end of the city marks the international border. The two towns, including outlying suburban settlements, have a population approaching 100,000, of which nearly 47,000 are in Kerkrade.

Chevremont is a railway station in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. The station opened on 15 May 1949 on the Schaesberg–Simpelveld railway, which is part of the Heuvellandlijn (Maastricht–Kerkrade). Train services are operated by Arriva.

Kerkrade Centrum is a railway station in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. The station was built in 1933 on the Schaesberg–Simpelveld railway and is the eastern terminus of the Heuvellandlijn (Maastricht–Kerkrade). However, as the Dutch Railways deemed it unprofitable at the time, the station did not see passenger services until 15 May 1949, when regular passenger services finally commenced on the Schaesberg–Simpelveld railway. Train services were operated by Veolia until 11 December 2016, when Arriva took over.The station is about 200 m north of the German border. The station is also served by the ZLSM heritage steam train to Schin op Geul and Simpelveld as well as Germany.

The Continium or in full Discovery Center Continium (sic) is a provincial science and industry based museum in Kerkrade, Limburg province in the Netherlands. It was formerly named Industrion. The museum is an Anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

GaiaZOO is a Dutch zoo located in Kerkrade. It opened in 2005 as GaiaPark with approximately 80 different species. In 2014, the zoo had approximately 100 different species.

Rolduc is the name of a medieval abbey located on the edge of the town of Kerkrade in the far south-east of the Netherlands. It is today a Roman Catholic seminary with an affiliated conference center. The abbey is a rijksmonument (Dutch national heritage site). It features on the official list of 100 top Dutch heritage sites, drawn up in 1990 by what is today the Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (National Cultural Heritage Service).

The Gemeentelijk Sportpark Kaalheide is a stadium situated in Kerkrade, Netherlands. It is the former stadium of Roda JC, who since 2000 play in the Parkstad Limburg Stadion. It is still in use for youth and Jong Roda JC (U21) matches.

Roda JC Vrouwen was the women's football section of Roda JC football club from Kerkrade, Netherlands. They wanted to join the Women's Eredivisie the year it was erected but did not get permission by the KNVB. On 1 March 2008, Roda JC announced that the next season they shall join the 2008-09 season.In May 2009, Roda JC announced they withdraw the support for their women's section, for financial reasons.Roda JC worked together with RKTSV from Kerkrade.

The Staatsmijn Wilhelmina was the first and the smallest of the Dutch state owned mines. It produced coal for domestic use, as its near neighbours, the Laura Mine, Oranje Nassau II, Willem-Sophia, and Domaniale Mijn. The concession of the mine was bordered by the privately owned mines mentioned above. After a few decades the mine could not be extended sideways, so the only way to keep production up was going deeper, this in contrast to the large Emma, Hendrik and Maurits mines.
