The statistical area "Giessenburg", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2900.

Giessen-Nieuwkerk (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɣisəˈniukɛr(ə)k]) is a former town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is now called Giessenburg. It is also the name of a former municipality, that existed until 1957, when it merged with Peursum to form the new municipality of Giessenburg. The name means "Giessen-New Church", and refers to the small river Giessen. The town Giessen-Oudekerk ("Giessen-Old Church") is located 2 km southwest.

The Steenenhoek Canal (in Dutch : Kanaal van Steenenhoek) is a Dutch canal in southeastern Netherlands. The canal runs from the northern part of Gorinchem where it connects to Linge. The canal goes west along the railway and A15 (Rotterdam-Nijmegen) motorway. Then it flows to the North of Boven-Hardinxveld to connect with Beneden Merwede (Lower Merwede) at Neder-Hardinxveld in the municipality of Hardinxveld-Giessendam where a pumping station is used to maintain the water level.

Until they were merged in 1957, Giessendam and Hardinxveld were two municipalities, consisting of only a few streets and dykes and only a few thousand inhabitants. The town's economy is for a large part dependent on ship building (e.g. Damen Shipyards Group) and general contracting. Several industry parks are present.

Van der Giessen de Noord (Dutch pronunciation: [vɑn dər ˈɣisə(n) də ˈnoːrt]) was a shipbuilding company that mainly built ferries, located in Krimpen aan den IJssel, a town in the western Netherlands. The yard was especially suited to the construction of large vessels due to its developed undercover facilities. The shipyard was founded in 1820. After World War II, the company expanded significantly in the building of larger ships. Owned by IHC Caland (now SBM Offshore), the yard went into liquidation in October 2003 primarily due to aggressive competition from other parts of the world such as South Korea. It had not received any orders for new vessels since 2000.

Molenaarsgraaf is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Molenlanden, and lies about 11 km west of Gorinchem. In 2001, the village of Molenaarsgraaf had 414 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.041 km², and contained 143 residences. The statistical area "Molenaarsgraaf", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 1110.Molenaarsgraaf was a separate municipality until 1986, when it became part of Graafstroom. Latterly it has been part of Molenwaard since 2013. The village contains the War Grave of a Royal Air Force Avro Lancaster crew (less the pilot, who had parachuted to safety). Their names are recorded in Commonwealth War Graves web site as being killed on 22 May 1944. It is understood that their aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter.

The municipality, part of Land van Heusden en Altena, contained a large part of De Biesbosch area as is located in the province of North Brabant. On January 1sth 2019 it joined Woudrichem and Aalburg in the new municipality of Altena.

The statistical area "Gijbeland", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 930.
