Queen's Park Arena

The New Westminster Salmonbellies are a Men's Senior 'A' lacrosse team located in New Westminster, BC. Their home arena is Queen's Park Arena. They compete as part of the Western Lacrosse Association and have won the Mann Cup 24 times, most recently in 1991. The 1968–1972 teams were collectively inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2004. They won their first Mann Cup in 1915. Prior to 1932, they played as a field lacrosse team but in May 1932 box lacrosse was adopted for the senior league in British Columbia - and the Salmonbellies have been a box lacrosse team since then. The Salmonbellies have won the Mann Cup more than any other lacrosse team. They had won at least one Mann Cup in every decade since the inception of the trophy, before the 2000s. Salmonbellie Alumni Paul Parnell, Wayne Goss, Eric Cowieson, Jack Bionda, Cliff Sepka, Dave Durante and Geordie Dean have all had their numbers retired by the team. There are more Salmonbellies alumni in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame than from any other team. The Salmonbellie name arose from a taunt given by an opposing team's fan during an early game. The fan called the New West team "salmonbellies" referring to the fact that salmon was considered a lowly food at the time. But the players liked the name, concluding that the belly was the prime portion on the fish, so the name was adopted and has stuck for over a century. Queen's Park is a neighbourhood and community park in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. The recreational area and tourist attraction dates from 1887. The park is 75 acres (300,000 m2) in extent, and is located north east of the city hall. The park houses Queen's Park Arena, current home of the New Westminster Salmonbellies, a stadium, seasonal animal petting farm, spray park, tennis courts, sports fields and band shell. Queen's Park residential area is to the southwest of the park, bounded on the northwest by 6th Avenue, on the southwest by 6th Street, on the southeast by Royal Avenue, and on the north by the park itself.

Queen's Park Stadium is a multi-use stadium located within Queen's Park in New Westminster, British Columbia. Its primary use is for baseball and civic events, but it also sees usage as a training ground for a variety of other New Westminster sports clubs. The stadium grounds are used for two of the main events of the annual Hyack Festival in New Westminster, the May Day dances, and the Anvil Battery Salute.In 2014, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC soccer club attempted to reach an agreement with the City of New Westminster to rebuild/renovate Queen's Park stadium to be a suitable venue for their second team in the USL Pro league. The proposal was eventually rejected due to the city's unwillingness to make an eleven million dollar investment for the new facilities, alongside public opposition from residents of the Queen's Park neighbourhood, and the larger baseball community as a whole.

The Irving House is a heritage site residing in New Westminster, British Columbia. It is a one and a half storey tall building which is known to be the oldest house in the Lower Mainland that is still completely intact. It is located at the corner of Royal Avenue and Merivale Street in its original location. Today, it is a museum open to the public for those who wish to explore colonial history during the time of pioneer expansion in the Lower Mainland.

Tipperary Park is a community park located in the Downtown neighbourhood of New Westminster, just Northeast of New Westminster City Hall. The park technically only includes the grounds Northeast of 4th Street, however, the park's name is often used to refer to the adjacent Friendship Gardens and the front lawn of the City Hall. The park itself is lightly treed and has several paved pathways for cyclists and pedestrians. The nearby Friendship Gardens is renowned for its water features including several artificial waterfalls, stepping-stone paths, a duck pond, and a footbridge painted red and black (culturally important colours in New Westminster as they were worn by the Royal Engineers).

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is a public, post-secondary educational institution in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, that is focused on training professionals in the justice, public safety and social services fields. JIBC also has campuses in Victoria, Kelowna, Chilliwack, Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge.

Woodlands or Woodlands School was a hospital in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada that served as a psychiatric hospital and later as a facility for children with a developmental disorder, as well as runaways and wards of the state. Many incidents of abuse took place there.Woodlands opened in 1878 as the Provincial Lunatic Asylum. In 1897 the name was changed to The Provincial Hospital for the Insane. In 1950 the name was changed again to Woodlands School. Woodlands closed in 1996. The site of the former school was also considered for a station on the Expo Line portion of the SkyTrain system. However, plans to redevelop the site never materialized before the construction of the station, meaning that even though the tracks were built to accommodate the new station, it was never built. The neighborhood has since been renamed Victoria Hill, and is home to 1200 new homes.After proposals to preserve Woodlands' Centre Block Tower were opposed by former residents, New Westminster council voted in July 2011 to demolish the tower.Similar facilities elsewhere in British Columbia included Tranquille in Kamloops, Essondale or Riverview Hospital in Coquitlam, and Valleyview, also in Coquitlam.

New Westminster (colloquially known as New West) is a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It was founded by Major-General Richard Moody as the capital of the Colony of British Columbia in 1858 and continued in that role until the Mainland and Island colonies were merged in 1866. It was the British Columbia Mainland's largest city from that year until it was passed in population by Vancouver during the first decade of the 20th century. It is located on the banks of the Fraser River as it turns southwest towards its estuary, on the southwest side of the Burrard Peninsula and roughly at the centre of the Greater Vancouver region.

The Armoury also called The Armouries is a Canadian Forces armoury located at 530 Queens Avenue (at the corner of 6th Street) in New Westminster, British Columbia and it is the oldest active wooden military structure in Canada. It is the home of The Royal Westminster Regiment, an infantry reserve regiment.

Columbia is an underground station on the Expo Line of Metro Vancouver's SkyTrain rapid transit system. The station is located on Columbia Street in New Westminster, British Columbia, and is a major transfer point between the two branches of the Expo Line, which separate from the main line at the flying junction just east of the station, with one terminating at King George station in Surrey and the other at Production Way–University station in Burnaby.

Holy Trinity Cathedral is an cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster in New Westminster, British Columbia. The parish was established in 1859, with its current building completed in 1902. It is the second-oldest parish in the Diocese of New Westminster by six months, the oldest being Saint John's Maple Ridge.

The Holy Eucharist Cathedral Also Cathedral of the Holy Eucharist (Ukrainian: Катедра Пресвятої Евхаристії) It is the name that receives a religious building affiliated with the Catholic church that is located in New Westminster, a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of Metro Vancouver. The cathedral is the mother church of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of New Westminster (Latin: Eparchia Neo-Vestmonasteriensis Ucrainorum; Ukrainian: Українська Католицька Єпархія Нью Вестмінстера) which was created in 1974 by the bull "Cum territorii" of Pope Paul VI. It is one of the 2 Catholic cathedrals in the Vancouver area, the other being that of the Holy Rosary that follows the Roman or Latin Rite of the Catholic Church. In 2018 the cathedral received 2 pieces of Mother Teresa of Calcutta's hair, so the creation of a reliquary was commissioned to protect themIts current administrator is the Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski.
