Ulsda railway stop

Ulsda (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʏlzdaː]; Gronings: Olsde) is a hamlet in the municipality of Oldambt in the northeast of the Netherlands. Between 1887 and 1938 there was a railway stop in Ulsda. Ulsda was home to 44 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of a handful of houses.

Pekel A or Pekel Aa (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈpeːkəl ˈaː]) is a river in the Province of Groningen in the Netherlands. The villages of Oude Pekela and Nieuwe Pekela have been named after the river. The name translates to Brine (Pekel) River (A), and used to flow from the Dollart into a large raised bog. The Dollart was poldered from the 15th century until 1924, and the river now has its source at the confluence with the Westerwoldsche Aa at De Bult. The river was canalised and extended. The part from Oude Pekela to Stadskanaal was renamed Pekelderdiep. From 1599 until 1810, the area through which the river flowed, was a peat colony. In the 20th century, the Pekel A was a heavily polluted river, but it has been cleaned up since the 1970s.

Klein-Ulsda (Dutch pronunciation: [klɛin ˈʏlzdaː]; English: Small Ulsda) is a hamlet near Oudeschans in the municipality of Westerwolde in the Netherlands. The hamlet was first mentioned between 1851 and 1855 Kl. Ulsda, and means little Ulsda after the nearby village. It was sometimes refer to as Hutte(n), because of the tiny houses. The postal authorities have placed it under Oudeschans. Klein-Ulsda has place name signs. It was home to 64 people in 1840.

Vestingmuseum Oudeschans (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvɛstɪŋmyˌzeːjʏm ˈʌudəˌsxɑns]; English: Oudeschans Fortification Museum) is a local museum in the village of Oudeschans in the Netherlands. The museum shows the history of the 16th-century fortification of Oudeschans and has a collection of archaeological findings. The museum opened on 12 September 1987. The building was renovated in 2009. The museum lost its structural municipal subsidy in 2010. The museum staff consists of volunteers only. With 1,195 visitors in 2015, it is one of the lesser-visited museums in Groningen.

In the 20th century, Beerta was a communist stronghold. In 1933, the municipal council was dismissed by the government, and was ruled by a government commissioner until 1935. Between 1982 and 1990, Beerta was the only municipality with a communist mayor.

After almost 50 year, Bellingwedde was disestablished in 2018, when the municipalities of Bellingwedde and Vlagtwedde had merged into Westerwolde.

The Rechthuis (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈrɛxtɦœys]; English: Law House) is a former courthouse in the village of Bellingwolde in the Netherlands. The building with two crow-stepped gables was established in 1643 and used as a civil court for the area Bellingwolde-Blijham until 1811. The building has been a national heritage site since 1972. It is currently used as a private residence.
