Borger, Netherlands

Ees is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 17 km north of Emmen. The village was first mentioned in 1263 as de Ese, and means "farmland around a village".Situated close to the town of Borger, Ees retains a provincial charm that is characterised by pleasant homes and a large expanse of woodland to the South East. A network of bike paths and horse trails (ruiterpads) throughout the woods provides for some peaceful treks.

Drouwen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈdrʌu.ə(n)]) is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 17 km east of Assen.

The Hondsrug (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦɔntsrʏx]) is a Dutch ridge of sand that is mainly located in the province Drenthe and partly in the province Groningen. The spur of the Hondsrug in Groningen has led to the creation of various villages build on artificial dwelling hills: Adorp, Sauwerd, Wetsinge, Winsum, Baflo, Rasquert, Warffum, Usquert, Rottum. The name "Hondsrug" would appear to be taken from the Dutch word for "dog" or "hound" (hond) and the word for a "back" or "ridge" (rug). However, it is more likely a bastardization of the older name Hunze-rug, coming from the name of the Hunze River, which flows through Drenthe and Groningen. Up until the 19th century the Hondsrug was also known as the Bisschopsrug, meaning "Bishop's Ridge". The ridge has northwest–southeast orientation, which it shares with some less pronounced parallel ridges. These ridges are generally thought to be glacial landforms. It has been debated what kind of landform it should be, suggestions ranging from medial moraines to mega-flutes.

Buinen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 18 km north of Emmen.

Bronneger is a small village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 18 km east of Assen.

Westdorp is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 17 km northwest of Emmen.

Eesergroen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 16 km northwest of Emmen. The village was first mentioned in 1942 as "Eesergroen of Eesgroen", and means "trees belonging to Ees. In 1882, the first house was built to cultivate the wilderness. In 1930, a canal was dug and the large scale cultivation of the area started.In 1917, the Maranatha chapel was built by the Rechtzinnig Hervormde Kerk, a Christian fundamentalist congregation. It was decommissioned in 1975 and is now used by an auto workshop. In 1956, a church was built by the Vrijzinnig Hervormde Kerk, a liberal Christianity congregation. It was decommissioned in 1969, and now serves as a holiday home.

Bronnegerveen is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 19 km east of Assen. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1936 as Bronnegerveen, and means "peat excavation village near Bronneger". The settlement started around 1750. A century later, it became a peat excavation village.

Gasselte is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Located in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, it is situated about 16 km (9.9 mi) east of Assen. In 2021, it had a population of 1,770.

Eeserveen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 14 km northwest of Emmen. The village was first mentioned between 1851 and 1855 as Eesterveen, and means "peat excavation settlement belonging to Ees". The excavation of the peat started around 1870. It used to consists mainly of sod houses which were later replaced by stone houses.Until 1997, the village was split between Borger and Odoorn. In 1998, it became part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn.

Ellertshaar is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and lies about 17 km southeast of Assen. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1851 as Eldershaar, and means "alder trees on a sandy ridge". Ellershaar was home to 8 people in 1840.

Kostvlies is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 16 km east of Assen. The statistical area "Kostvlies", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 130.
