Bareveld (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbaː.rəˌvɛlt]; Gronings: Boareveld) is a Dutch village on the border of the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The Drenthe part of the village belongs to the municipality of Aa en Hunze, the Groningen part of the village has been added to the municipality of Veendam. It is located on the N33, in between the linear villages of Eexterveenschekanaal and Nieuwediep. The Groningen part has 380 inhabitants (2004) and is administratively part of the built-up area of the village of Wildervank, and is therefore no longer always seen as a real part of Bareveld. Only the part that falls under the municipality of Aa and Hunze has its own place name sign.

The statistical area "Gasselterboerveenschemond", which also includes the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 40.On 18 July 2011 there was a huge fire in the only chicken farm of Gasselterboerveenschemond, in which 170,000 chickens died.

It was founded in 1647 by Adriaan Geerts Wildervanck as a peat colony in the Wildervankster bog. Wildervank was a separate municipality until 1969, when the area was divided between Veendam and Stadskanaal.

Westerdiepsterdallen is a hamlet, near Groningen. For a long time, it only had 1 inhabitant, when one of the houses was empty. By only having 1 inhabitant, it made it to the 1984 Guinness Book of Records. The hamlet has grown to 5 people.

Veendam was established in 1648 as a peat colony by Adriaan Geerts Wildervanck.Holland America Line has named four ships Veendam after the town. The municipality includes Westerdiepsterdallen, the smallest town in the Netherlands.

Annerveenschekanaal is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 18 km east of Assen. The statistical area "Annerveenschekanaal", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 420.The village was founded around 1770, when its name was Annerveensche Compagnie. The village is a linear settlement along the Grevelingskanaal. The canal has been named after Lambartus Grevijlink, co-owner of the Annerveensche Heerencompagnie, a company that exploited peat fields in the area. There is a Dutch Reformed 'farmers-church' from 1836 in Annerveenschekanaal as well as Annerzathe, a countryhouse from 1878. Annerveenschekanaal used to have a public elementary school but it closed in August 2015. The village is on the Grevelingskanaal, and together with the smaller village of Eexterveenschekanaal forms part of the protected historic area Rijksbeschermd gezicht Annerveenschekanaal / Eexterveenschekanaal. In recent years the old swing bridges crossing the canal have been restored to their original condition and the canal is open for recreation.
