Westerdiepsterdallen is a hamlet, near Groningen. For a long time, it only had 1 inhabitant, when one of the houses was empty. By only having 1 inhabitant, it made it to the 1984 Guinness Book of Records. The hamlet has grown to 5 people.

The hamlet was first mentioned in 1874 as Annerveen (Nieuw). It uses Nieuw (new) to distinguish between Oud-Annerveen. The former school is nowadays used as a village house.

Spijkerboor is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 16 km northeast of Assen. The village was first mentioned in 1792 as "de Spykerboor", and means meandering river. Before the Stadskanaal was dug, all the peat in the area had to be transported over the Hunze river. Spijkerboor was located at one of the locks in the river where you had to pay toll.

Oud-Annerveen is a small village in the municipality of Aa en Hunze in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It lies in the extreme northwest of the town. It lies on the southeast side against Spijkerboor in the northeast bordering the Zuidlaarderveen. The Hunze river flows parallel to the main street, just south of the village. The village was first mentioned in 1498 as "dat vene gelegen up Anner vene", and means "the old peat (colony) belonging to Annen. Oud (old) has been added to distinguish between Nieuw-Annerveen. Oud-Annerveen developed when the communal lands where split in 1457. It was mainly inhabited by small farmers who excavated the peat and worked the land.Oud-Annerveen was home to 191 people in 1840.

Windeweer is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen. It existed until 1821, when it was merged with Hoogezand. Since 2018, it is part of Midden-Groningen. The villages of Windeweer and Kiel have grown together and are nowadays known as Kiel-Windeweer. Windeweer is the southern part of the village.

Borgercompagnie (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌbɔrɣərkɔmpɑˈɲi]; Gronings: Börkomnij [ˈbœːkɔmˌnɛːi̯]) is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It consists of a single street with farms and houses on both sides. The village is about 7 km long. The north end lies close to Sappemeer in the municipality of Midden-Groningen, and the south end lies in the municipality of Veendam.The village was founded in 1647 by the Burger Compagnie (Citizen's Company) to exploit the peat. Borgercompagnie is a linear settlement along the canal. The northern section of the canal was filled up after 1940.In 2005, a manure fermentation factory opened in Borgercompagnie. It was originally hailed as a progressive company and received a stimulation prize. It processes 35,000 tons of manure a year, and is in ongoing dispute with their neighbours and the municipality of Veendam due to the stench.

Eexterzandvoort is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 15 km east of Assen on the road from Eext to Eexterveen. On the north of the hamlet is the stream Hunze, and on the eastern side is the road N33. As well on the northern side (Hunzedal) of the hamlet as on the southern side (Breevenen) are areas from the foundation Drentsch Landschap situated. The foundation tries on these areas to bring back the situation as it was before the cultivation started. The statistical area "Eexterzandvoort", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 140.

Bareveld (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbaː.rəˌvɛlt]; Gronings: Boareveld) is a Dutch village on the border of the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The Drenthe part of the village belongs to the municipality of Aa en Hunze, the Groningen part of the village has been added to the municipality of Veendam. It is located on the N33, in between the linear villages of Eexterveenschekanaal and Nieuwediep. The Groningen part has 380 inhabitants (2004) and is administratively part of the built-up area of the village of Wildervank, and is therefore no longer always seen as a real part of Bareveld. Only the part that falls under the municipality of Aa and Hunze has its own place name sign.
