Berryessa station (VTA)

Berryessa is a district of San Jose, California, located in North San Jose. The district is named after the Berryessa family, a prominent Californio family of the Bay Area which historically owned most of the area.

Hostetter is a light rail station in San Jose, California, United States. It is operated by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and is served by the Orange Line. The station, built as part of the Tasman East/Capitol extension from I-880/Milpitas station (now Alder station) to Alum Rock Transit Center, was originally intended as the terminus of phase two of the Tasman East project. However, phase two of the Tasman East extension and the Capitol extension were eventually opened on the same date on June 24, 2004.

The Messina Orchard is a historic orchard, located in San Jose, California, US. The 4.96 acres (2.01 ha) tract of land has two residences associated with the Messina family. It holds significance in the realm of agriculture for its connection to the agricultural growth of the Santa Clara Valley, as well as for its architectural value due to the presence of two period-revival family homes. The Messina Orchard was officially recognized and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 9, 2018.

Independence High School, also referred to as IHS, is a public high school located in the Berryessa district of San Jose, California, United States. The school is operated by the East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD). Its namesake is the United States Declaration of Independence, which celebrated its bicentennial in the same year Independence High was established in 1976. Independence is considered a magnet school, with three specialized programs, called "academies": electronics, finance, and teaching. Later magnet programs were extended into the performing arts and space technology, which were cut in 2009 due to budget constraints.Independence students are called "sixers" and their mascots are named "Sammy the Sixer," who is an interpretation of an American Founding Father, George Washington, and "Amerigo the Eagle," who is a Bald Eagle, America's national bird.

KIPP San Jose Collegiate is a high school in San Jose, California, part of the KIPP chain. It is in the East Side Union High School District and was founded in 2008. KIPP San Jose Collegiate opened in August 2008. It was founded by Melissa Gonzales, who had been one of the original teachers at KIPP Heartwood Academy, a middle school also in East San Jose. As of the 2016–2017 school year, there were 499 students, of whom 75% were Latino, 22% were Asian/Pacific Islander, and 1% were African American. In the 2015–16 school year, 81% were socio-economically disadvantaged and 7.9% were English learners.The school has achieved high passing percentages on state proficiency tests, including in 2015, when many other charter schools' performance on the tests declined. In 2015 it appeared in the top 2% in a Washington Post ranking of high schools by willingness to challenge students by administering upper-level tests. In 2017 it was ranked 23rd in the US by U.S. News & World Report.KIPP San Jose Collegiate's sports teams are the Wolfpack.

Piedmont Hills High School is a comprehensive public four-year high school located in the Berryessa neighborhood of San Jose, California, USA. It is part of the East Side Union High School District and in 2019 was ranked in the highest categories on the California School Dashboard, earning the top rating of "blue" for Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Graduation Rate. In 2003, it was awarded a California Distinguished School recognition and has received various awards in several aspects of its curriculum since. Together with Independence High School and Yerba Buena High School, Piedmont Hills is one of a few schools in the district to have retained its own music program.The school began operation in 1965, under founding principal Gerald R. Bocciardi.

Berryessa/North San José station (also known as Berryessa station and Berryessa Transit Center) is an intermodal transit center located in the Berryessa district of San Jose, California. The station is served by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) buses. The transit center opened for bus service on December 28, 2019, and subsequently for BART service on June 13, 2020.The station was built and is owned by VTA, while BART operates train service with funding from VTA. The bus bays and parking garages are operated by VTA. It is the first BART station ever built in San Jose, and service will terminate here until the completion of the downtown San Jose subway (the last phase of the Silicon Valley BART extension).

The San Jose Flea Market, located in the heart of the Berryessa district of San Jose, California, was founded by George Bumb Sr. in March 1960. He had the idea to open a flea market while working in the solid waste and landfill business. He witnessed abundant items thrown away every day and realized he could make a profit from these discarded items. After visiting swap meets in Los Angeles and Paris’ Thieves Market for inspiration, George Bumb Sr. established the San Jose Flea Market at 1590 Berryessa Road in San Jose, California. He bought 120 acres (49 ha) of an old meat-processing plant and remodeled it to create a market with an initial 20 vendors and only 100 customers per day.

The Chinese Cultural Garden is a 6 acres (24,000 m2) section of Overfelt Gardens, in San Jose, California, located in East San Jose. The addition of the Chinese Cultural Garden to Overfelt is primarily the work of Chinese immigrant Frank Lowe, his wife Pauline (who serves as park docent), and Dr. Chen Li-Fu of Taiwan.
