Christ Church, Summerfield

Summerfield is a district in Birmingham, in the West Midlands county of England. The area takes its name from Summerfield House, owned by members of the Chance family, local industrialists, and which stood on the site of the current bandstand in Summerfield Park.Major roads in the area include Dudley Road, City Road (part of the city's ring road, the A4040), Rotton Park Road, and Icknield Port Road. Gillott Road is named after industrialist and pen maker Joseph Gillott, who built houses in the area. The former Summerfield School, a board school built in 1878, is now a community centre and is a grade II* listed building. The West Midlands Police's Summerfield Police station sits inside Summerfield Park. The park was established in 1876.The parish church, Christ Church, is Grade II listed.The area was formerly served by Icknield Port Road railway station and Rotton Park Road railway station, on the London and North Western Railway's Harborne branch line, but the stations closed in 1931 and 1934 respectively. The trackbed now forms the Harborne Nature Walk. Neighbouring areas include Edgbaston, Ladywood, and Winson Green. Edgbaston Reservoir is immediately to the south.

Icknield Port Road railway station was a railway station in England, built by the Harborne Railway and operated by the London and North Western Railway in 1874.It served the Summerfield area of Birmingham and, from 1897, was located near to the junction of Icknield Port Road and Gillott Road. Prior to that it had been between Icknield Port Road and Barford Rd, but the platform became too short when trains were lengthened.The station closed in 1931, and there is little evidence of the station on the ground today. The trackbed through the station is now part of the Harborne Nature Walk.

Edgbaston Reservoir, originally known as Rotton Park Reservoir and referred to in some early maps as Rock Pool Reservoir, is a canal feeder reservoir in Birmingham, England, maintained by the Canal & River Trust. It is situated close to Birmingham City Centre and is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.

The Icknield Port Loop (originally the Rotton Park Loop) is a 0.6-mile (1 km) loop of the eighteenth-century-built Old BCN Main Line canal in Birmingham, England, about 2 miles (3 km) west of the city centre, which opened to traffic on 6 November 1769 and in some definitions includes its straighter bypass built in September 1827, a 550-yard (500 m) section of the New BCN Main Line. Most of the 56 acres (23 ha) of land thereby enclosed is derelict meaning the canal serves the Canal & River Trust (British Waterways) maintenance depot at Icknield Port and conveys water from Edgbaston Reservoir to the BCN Main Line. The enclosed land has no pedestrian or vehicular access. Icknield Port (Loop) takes its name from the Roman Icknield Street which passed nearby, the exact route of which is unknown. The Canal & River Trust (formerly British Waterways) depot with its buildings and crane are Grade II listed buildings.

Winson Green railway station was a railway station in Birmingham, England, built by the London and North Western Railway on their Stour Valley Line in 1876. It served the Winson Green area of Birmingham. Showell's Dictionary of Birmingham, discussing railway accidents in the city, notes that: Mr. Pipkins, Stationmaster at Winson Green, was killed Jan. 2. 1877. but does not elaborate as to the circumstances.The station closed in 1957, although the Rugby–Birmingham–Stafford line loop from the West Coast Main Line still runs through the site of the station today. There is some evidence of the station on the ground today, as the two tracks running currently through the site of the station split at the location of an island platform. The station was not the only one to bear the name. Following the closure of Winson Green station, the nearby Soho and Winson Green station was renamed Winson Green in 1965. However it too was closed in 1972.

Rotton Park Road railway station was a railway station in England, built by the Harborne Railway and operated by the London and North Western Railway in 1874.It served Summerfield and part of the Edgbaston area of Birmingham and was located near to the junction of Rotton Park Road and Gillott Road. Initially single track, the steady growth in traffic meant that a passing loop was installed in 1903, when a spur to Mitchells & Butlers Brewery was also added. However, from the beginning of the 20th century, the introduction of road transport, especially Birmingham Corporation Tramways, caused passenger numbers to fall away.In 1923, the Harborne Railway, together with its operators the LNWR, became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) at the grouping. The station closed in 1934, and there is little evidence of the station on the ground today. The trackbed through the station is now part of the Harborne Nature Walk.

Dhamma Talaka Peace Pagoda was opened in Birmingham, UK in 1998 and is the only such building in traditional Burmese style in the Western hemisphere. On its grounds there are now a monastery and the teaching hall of a planned Buddhist Academy.

Edgbaston Waterworks (Edgbaston Pumping Station) (grid reference SP0455386465) lies to the east of Edgbaston Reservoir, two miles west of the centre of Birmingham, England. The buildings were designed by John Henry Chamberlain and William Martin around 1870. The engine house, boiler house, and chimney are Grade II listed buildings. The site is operated by Severn Trent Water. Despite the close proximity to Edgbaston Reservoir there is no current or historical connection of the water. This waterworks manages domestic water supply whereas the reservoir was built to feed the canal system. It has been suggested, but not proven, that the towers of Perrott's Folly and Edgbaston Waterworks may have influenced references to towers in the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien, who lived nearby as a child.

City Hospital (formerly Dudley Road Hospital, and still commonly referred to as such) is a major hospital located in Birmingham, England, operated by the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. It provides an extensive range of general and specialist hospital services. It is located in the Winson Green area of the west of the city. It is slated to be replaced by the delayed Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, with the Treatment Centre and separate eye hospital, the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, remaining on the Dudley Road campus, the rest of which will be redeveloped for housing.
