Glödis

Gößnitzkopf is a mountain in the Schober Group of the Hohe Tauern range. It is located in Austria, along the border of East Tyrol and Carinthia. The elevation at its peak is 3,096 metres (10,157 ft). The nearest municipalities are Nußdorf-Debant, Tyrol to the west and Heiligenblut, Carinthia to the east.

The Rote Knopf (3,281 m (AA)) is the second highest mountain in the Schober Group within the High Tauern in the Austrian Alps. It is only two metres short of the Petzeck, the highest summit in the Schober. Nevertheless, this peak is far less well known that the Hochschober or the Glödis. This is probably because the mountain is not visible from the valleys of the Kalser Tal or the anterior Debanttal. The easiest ascent runs from the Elberfelder Hut following the waymarking southwards before turning west and running along the southeastern arête to the summit. This climb not only requires sure-footedness, but also exposed, albeit not difficult, climbing at grade I. From the summit, Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner, may be seen prominently to the north.

The Hochschober (3,240 m (AA)) is the mountain that gives its name to the Schober Group in the High Tauern, although the summit is only the fourth highest in the group. This may have arisen because the north face of the mountain is an impressive sight from Kals. The easiest ascent is via the Hochschober Hut (2,322 m) from the south to the Staniskascharte notch (2,936 m) and along the western arête. There is another route of comparable difficulty from the east and along the upper part of the southeastern arête. The latter route may use the Lienzer Hut (1,977 m) as a base. Both routes are waymarked and now generally free of snow in the high summer, unlike earlier years, have easy klettersteig ratings (I) and are somewhat exposed in places. Another ascent option is the partly waymarked climb from the Schobertörl (2,898 m) along the northeastern arête, crossing the Kleinschober (3,125 m).

The Elberfelder Hut (German: Elberfelder Hütte) is a mountain hut belonging to the German Alpine Club in the Schober Group within the Austrian Alps. The mountain hut stands at 2,346 m in the upper Gößnitz valley and is managed from mid-June to mid-September. The Wuppertal branch of the German Alpine Club is responsible for it. The Siegburg and Recklinghausen branches also participate in managing the hut.

The Hoher Prijakt ("High Prijakt", 3,064 m (AA)) and Niederer Prijakt ("Low Prijakt", 3,056 m above sea level (AA)) are a prominent double summit which, seen from the west and north, form one of the most attractively-shaped mountains of the Schober Group in the state of Tyrol in western Austria. The summit cross was placed on the lower Niederer Prijakt which is easier to see from the valley. The easiest route to the Hoher Prijakt takes about three hours from the Hochschober Hut heading for the Mirnitzscharte notch, later turning north and heading past the lake of Barrenlesee until just below the western Barreneckscharte notch and finally making its way along the unchallenging eastern arête to the summit. The route is waymarked and free of snow and ice in the summer, but does require sure-footedness. The Hoher Prijakt and Niederer Prijakt are separated by the Prijaktscharte, a notch which is a good 60 metres (200 ft) deep. The crossing of the linking ridge takes about 30 minutes and is rated as grade II, but the difficulty is somewhat reduced by protective steel cables. The Niederer Prijakt can alternatively also be ascended on a climbing route, that is not too difficult, from the Mirschachscharte notch along the southwestern arête. The rather more challenging western arête is one of the most beautiful climbing routes in the Schoberg Group, and gains a height of 400 metres (1,300 ft) (grade IV).

Petzeck (3,283m) is the highest mountain of the Schober Group in the High Tauern range, Austria. The mountain has a 1,000m high north face but its southern slope is more gentle, with lakes such as Kreuzsee and Wangenitzsee on its slopes. Its south western slope is glaciated.The mountain is quieter than its near neighbours such as Grossglockner or Hoher Sonnblick.

The Schober group (German: Schobergruppe) is a sub-range of the Hohe Tauern mountains in the Central Eastern Alps, on the border between the Austrian states of Tyrol (East Tyrol) and Carinthia. Most of the range is located inside Hohe Tauern national park. It is named after Mt. Hochschober, 3,242 metres (10,636 ft), though its highest peak is Mt. Petzeck at 3,283 metres (10,771 ft).

The Wangenitzsee is an alpine lake in Carinthia, Austria. It is located in the Schober group of Hohe Tauern National Park, and is at an altitute of 2,465 metres (8,087 ft) above sea level (AA). The lake lies south-east from the Hoher Perschitzkopf, just some 100 meters away from the border to East Tyrol. On its north bank lies the Wangenitzsee Hut, meaning that the lake is on the Wiener Höhenweg. The lake has an area of 21.57 hectares (53.3 acres). It has a maximum depth of 48 metres (157 ft), with an average depth of 16.2 metres (53 ft). The shoreline is 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) long, and the volume of the lake is 3,487,000,000 cubic metres (9.21×1011 US gal). In the southwestern part of the lake lie three small islands. The catchment area of the lake is relatively small, at 1.94 square kilometres (0.75 sq mi). The main inflow of the lake is the Kreuzsee, which is drained via the Wangenitzbach into the Möll. The flora in the area around the lake consists primarily of Carex curvula and Scheuchzer's cottongrass.

The Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe (often just Franz-Josefs-Höhe) is part of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. The end point of a cul-de-sac and lookout point is in Austria in the Glockner Group in Carinthia at an altitude of 2,369 m (7,772 ft) above sea level. The Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe can only be reached by vehicle via the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, which is subject to a toll, from both Salzburg and Carinthia.

The Pasterze, at approximately 8.4 kilometres (5.2 mi) in length, is the longest glacier in Austria and in the Eastern Alps. It lies within the Glockner Group of the High Tauern mountain range in Carinthia, directly beneath Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner.

The Racherin, a mountain with a height of 3,092 m (AA), lies in the Glockner Group in the High Tauern range in Austria. The summit is located ca. 6 km, as the crow flies, northwest of Heiligenblut in the state of Carinthia. The unmarked and mostly trackless normal route is not difficult in snow-free and dry conditions, but is rather laborious. An ascent therefore requires a good sense of direction. In suitable weather there are good views from the top, including an impressive view of the Großglockner and the surrounding mountain world.

The Fuscherkarkopf, sometimes also written Fuscher-Kar-Kopf in German and formerly also called the Fuschereiskarkopf, is one of the twin peaks of a mountain in the Glockner Group in the centre of the main mountain chain (Mittleren Tauernhauptkamm) in the High Tauern, a range in the Austrian Central Alps. The mountain lies right on the border between the Austrian states of Salzburg and Carinthia. The main peak is 3,331 metres high, but the northwest summit is only 3,252 metres high. The two peaks are about 500 metres apart and linked by a curved firn-covered ridge. Further sharp, prominent ridges run away to the northwest and west, forming the main crest of the Tauern. To the southwest the Heiligenblut Open Face (Heiligenbluter Freiwand) branches off, a mighty side ridge that starts as the southeast ridge (Südostgrat) at the Fuscherkarkopf. The northwest summit has a great, 650-metre-high (2,130 ft) West Face (Westwand), that used to be covered with firn, but today is covered with loose rock slabs. The mountain is easy to reach from the Hofmanns Hut over the southwest ridge (Südwestgrat) and offers a good view of the Großglockner and the Pasterze. The peak was first climbed in the 1840s by the hunter, Gregor Maier, known as Badhans, from Fusch.
