Sawbridgeworth Marsh

Sawbridgeworth railway station is on the West Anglia Main Line serving the town of Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire, England. It is 26 miles 57 chains (43.0 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Harlow Mill and Bishop's Stortford stations. Its three-letter station code is SAW. The waiting room was added in 1960 by H.H. Powell of the British Railways Eastern Region Architect's Department with H.E. Green as the Project Architect. The ticket office was added in 1972 by S. Hardy with Project Architect P.H. Thomas. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Greater Anglia. Both platforms were extended to accommodate 12-coach trains in 2011. The station adjoins Lower Sheering in neighbouring Essex, and part of the station was previously in Essex.

Little Hallingbury Marsh is a 4.5-hectare (11-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest adjacent to the River Stort, west of Little Hallingbury in Essex. It was notified under Section 28 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, and the local planning authority is Uttlesford District Council.The site is unimproved wet grassland and fen, which contains uncommon and declining swamp plant species. The wettest part is dominated by Reed Sweet-grass, and the ditches by branched reed-bur. The site is also of interest for over-wintering birds and aquatic insects, especially dragonflies.The site is private land with no public access, but it can be viewed from the River Stort towpath.

In 2018, GCSE results "exceed[ed] national targets".The average grade at A level in 2018 was C, just below the England and Hertfordshire averages of C+. Absence and persistent absence were better than the England average for 2016/17.

Thorley Wash or Thorley Flood Pound is a 17.3-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Thorley, south of Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire. It was formerly a flood pound for the Stort Navigation, which was decommissioned in 2004 and converted to a more natural state. It was purchased by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust from the Environment Agency in 2011.Habitats include tall wash grassland, which is now rare, marsh and waterlogged grassland. It has a wide variety of plant species, including reed sweet-grass and meadowsweet. There are flowers such as fen bedstraw and early marsh orchid. Breeding birds include snipe and water rails. The site also has the endangered Desmoulin's whorl snail, which is in the Red Date Book, together with diverse dragonflies, damselflies, birds, bats, small mammals and reptiles.There are five wooden sculptures by Daniel Cordell, commissioned by the Wildlife Trust in 2012.The Stort Navigation forms the boundary between Hertfordshire and Essex, and the site is on the Hertfordshire bank, but access is by a bridge from the towpath on the eastern Essex side. Access is restricted to footpaths due to the dangerous deep silt on the site.

Great Hallingbury is a village and a civil parish in the Uttlesford District of Essex, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 713. It is near the town of Bishop's Stortford, and the M11 motorway. Great Hallingbury contains houses from the Tudor period to modern. Decrease in population has resulted in the closure of the village school; its building and its accompanying playing field still exist, but are converted to housing and a grazing field. Great Hallingbury has a church dedicated to St Giles. Village groups include a Brownie club and the WI which meet in the Village Hall. There is an annual flower show organised by either Great Hallingbury or Little Hallingbury.William Parker, 4th Baron Monteagle, best known for his role in the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, died in the village on 1 July 1622.At the edge of the village is the ancient Royal Hunting Forest and National Trust property Hatfield Forest. On 22 December 1999, Korean Air Cargo Flight 8509 crashed into the Forest near Great Hallingbury shortly after take-off from nearby London Stansted Airport. All four crew on board were killed.

Sheering village is situated 2.8 miles (5 km) north-east from Harlow, 4.5 miles (7 km) south of Bishop's Stortford and 25 miles (40 km) north-east from London. The Stort Navigation to the west has a lock at Sheering Mill. Lower Sheering, adjacent to Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire and its railway station, forms part of the civil parish. Sheering village has approximately 350 households. There is a Church of England primary school and a public house - The Cock Inn, a general store with a post office, a sandwich shop and a hairdresser's. Bus services connect Sheering to Harlow and Chelmsford. The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin on Church Lane, Sheering is a Grade I listed building. Four other buildings in the parish are Grade II* listed.
