Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre is an Australian prison, located at Wacol, Brisbane. It was commissioned on 28 May 1999. Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre replaced the old Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre, located at Wacol. The centre has a capacity of 264 cells and is divided into two accommodation areas of 122 secure cells and 142 residential cells. The centre is the only reception, assessment and placement centre for female offenders in southern Queensland. The centre accommodates female mainstream and protection prisoners and at times immigration detainees. A purpose-built area accommodates up to eight women who are approved to have their children reside with them whilst in custody. In support of the accommodation of children within the facility and the role of women as primary carers, the centre facilitates a number of programs, activities, events and services related to women and children. The centre has a structured daily program consisting of industry, education and vocational training programs that provide opportunities to address offending behaviour, and a comprehensive range of activities designed to enhance personal development and self esteem.

Wolston Correctional Centre is an Australian high-security prison facility in Wacol, Queensland, Australia. Wolston is a 'protection' prison, and as such houses many paedophiles, sex offenders and high-profile prisoners. In addition to those classes of prisoner mentioned above, the majority of prisoners at Wolston Correctional Centre are non-sex-offender prisoners, who have been transferred to the protection prison from other mainstream prisons because they have provided information to prison authorities about fellow inmates and their safety has been threatened. These types of prisoners are known as "informers", or more colloquially in prison slang as "dogs". Like most Queensland prisons, Wolston Correctional Centre is severely overcrowded, with some cells designed for a single prisoner accommodating two or more prisoners. This is often achieved by requiring one or more of the prisoners to sleep on the floor. Such overcrowding has led to a dramatic increase in violent assaults as such cramped living conditions increases psychological stress and discomfort of inmates. It is also often the prison guards who become the victims of such assaults, as reported in a 2018 ABC News article.

The Park Centre for Mental Health is a heritage-listed psychiatric hospital at 60 Grindle Road, Wacol, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is one of the largest psychiatric hospitals in Australia. The hospital provides a range of mental health services, including extended inpatient care, mental health research, education and a high security psychiatric unit. It was designed by Kersey Cannan and built from 1866 to 1923. It is also known as Goodna Hospital for the Insane, Goodna Mental Hospital, Woogaroo Lunatic Asylum, and Wolston Park Hospital Complex. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.The Wolston Park Hospital Complex, opened in 1865, occupies a 450-hectare (1,100-acre) site on the banks of the Brisbane River at Wacol and encompasses a number of mental health facilities and ancillary services operated by the Queensland government since inception of the asylum.The hospital employs around 450 people, including 220 nurses and 20 doctors. There are also another 80 allied health staff, and 50 administration personnel. In addition there are 70 support staff, including maintenance, groundskeeping, security and laundry staff.

Brisbane Correctional Centre, formerly the Sir David Longland Correctional Centre, is a prison facility located at Wacol (near Brisbane), Queensland, Australia, which was renovated and re-opened in June 2008. The complex houses a water conservation system, a unit specifically designed for 17-year-old prisoners (which has since been closed due to amended laws), and an ultra-modern maximum security wing for prisoners considered dangerous. The facility currently consists of 16 units, including a protection unit mainly for elderly prisoners and prisoners with sexual charges, as well as a medical unit for prisoners with serious psychological problems and suicidal thoughts. A typical unit has approximately 70 prisoners.

The Brisbane Youth Detention Centre is a youth detention center in Wacol, Queensland, Australia. It has a capacity of 306 children aged 10 to 18. The centre opened in 2001. The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services is responsible for the centre. Each cell contains a bed, toilet, shower, desk and a shelf. Bedding and toiletries are supplied. Each child is given breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Phone calls of up to 10 minutes at a time totaling 120 minutes of call time each week are permitted.Detainees are allocated chores like cleaning but there is no hard labour. Children are assigned a caseworker. Youth detention centres in Queensland have an education and training centre, which detainees are required to participate in five days a week.
