Madeley railway station (Staffordshire)

All Saints' Church is an Anglican church in Madeley, Staffordshire, England, and in the Diocese of Lichfield. The building dates mostly from the 14th and 15th centuries, and the chancel was rebuilt in the 19th century. It is Grade I listed.

Madeley Old Hall is a black and white Elizabethan house, now a small hotel, in the village of Madeley in Staffordshire, England. It stands in 2 acres of landscaped gardens and is a Grade II* listed building.Built in the late 1500s, it is a timber-framed building with plaster infill standing on a sandstone plinth, originally with a cruciform floor-plan. Across the front gable of the house is carved the warning "WALLK KNAVE. WHAT LOOKEST AT".The property was acquired in 2007 by Gary and Simon White and run as a country house hotel. It is also licensed for weddings.

Madeley High School, established 1957, is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in the village of Madeley, Staffordshire, England. The school was founded as a secondary modern school. It became a comprehensive high school and then a Specialist Technology College with joint second specialisms in Arts and Cognition and Learning, before converting to academy status in September 2013. The school is now sponsored by the Shaw Education Trust.Madeley School caters to children in the 11-16 age group. It serves mainly the area lying to the west of Newcastle Under Lyme including the communities of Keele, Madeley, Betley, Baldwins Gate, Maer, Aston, Mucklestone, Ashley, Ashley Heath, Knighton, Whitmore, Wrinehill, Almington, Hanchurch, Onneley and Loggerheads and Westlands.

Madeley is a village and ward in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, North Staffordshire, England. It is split into three parts: Madeley, Middle Madeley, and Little Madeley. Madeley Heath is also considered by many to be part of Madeley. In the 2001 census, the population was recorded as 4,386, decreasing to 4,222 at the 2011 Census.

Madeley Road railway station is a disused railway station in Staffordshire, England. The Stoke to Market Drayton Line was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) in 1870. A station called simply Madeley was opened on the line in the same year. Within a few months; possibly to avoid confusion with the LNWR station that was, at least, on the edge of Madeley; the station was renamed Madeley Manor after the nearby, abandoned house of that name. By August 1871 the name had been changed yet again to Madeley Road.The station had no goods facilities and due to its rural location passenger use was low and in 1931 the London, Midland and Scottish Railway closed the station. An indication of how little usage the station received is shown by the LMS estimate that only £92 per year was saved by closure of the station.The line through the station remained in use until the closure of Silverdale Colliery in 1998.

Heighley Castle (or Heleigh Castle) is a ruined medieval castle near Madeley, Staffordshire. The castle was completed by the Audley family in 1233 and for over 300 years was one of their ancestral homes. It was held for Charles I during the English Civil War and was destroyed by Parliamentary forces in the 1640s. The ruinous remains comprise masonry fragments, mostly overgrown by vegetation. The site is protected by Grade II listed building status and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The castle is privately owned and is not open to visitors. The castle is on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register and described as being in 'very bad' condition.

Newcastle-under-Lyme Rural District was a rural district in the county of Staffordshire. It was formed in 1894 with the civil parishes of Ashley, Audley Rural, Balterley, Betley, Chapel and Hill Chorlton, Clayton, Keele, Madeley, Maer, Mucklestone, Tyrley and Whitmore. It was abolished in 1974, by virtue of the Local Government Act 1972, when it was absorbed into the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Onneley is a hamlet in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.Situated within Onneley is the local Golf and Cricket club. Onneley Cricket club play at the Onneley Oval.

Leycett railway station is a disused railway station in Staffordshire, England. The station was situated on the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) Audley branch line. The Audley line ran from a junction on the Stoke to Crewe line near Alsager to a junction between Keele and Madeley Road on the Stoke to Market Drayton Line Like many of the lines opened by the NSR the Audley line was built primarily to carry mineral traffic. The line opened in 1870 but passenger services were not introduced until 1880, partially a wait caused by the need to build a junction from the Audley line that would allow trains to run directly towards Stoke rather than having to reverse at the junction which was how the line was originally constructed.The decision to introduce passenger trains over the line led to the opening of a station to serve the mining village of Leycett in June 1880. By 1923 the station was served six services a day in each direction from Stoke on Trent, three terminating at Halmerend and the others continuing to Harecastle.The rise in local bus services led to a decline in the revenue raised from passengers and in 1931 the London, Midland and Scottish Railway withdrew all passenger services on the Audley line from 27 April 1931.Freight traffic too had been diminished by the economic depression towards the end of the 1920s and many of the local collieries closed as they became worked out or uneconomic to maintain and the line was reduced to a single line in 1933 although freight services continued until complete closure of the line between Audley and Keele in June 1962.

The Hollywood Music Festival was held at Leycett in an area called Hollywood on the grounds of Ted Askey's Lower (pig) Farm at Finney Green, between Silverdale and Leycett, near Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England, on 23 and 24 May 1970. It was notable for the first performance of Grateful Dead in the UK and also for the performance of Jose Feliciano and Mungo Jerry, and featured such notable bands as Free, Ginger Baker's Air Force, Colosseum, Family, Black Sabbath and Traffic. The company responsible for the festival was Onista Ltd, who promptly went bankrupt unable to pay festival staff. Onista was an offshoot of Eliot Cohen's Red Bus company, with Ellis Elias and Elliot Cohen as the promoters.

Scot Hay is a hamlet located outside the town of Newcastle-under-lyme, Staffordshire, England. It is located near Keele University and also the villages of Silverdale and Keele The village cricket team rejoined the weekend Stone and District League in 2016 after an absence of ten years.

Leycett was a small mining village in Staffordshire in the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme which was built in the late eighteen sixties to accommodate the miners and their families. Population details as taken at the 2011 census can be found under Madeley with the name Leycett meaning 'the clearing in the woods'.
