The Roebuck

The Surrey Dispensary was founded in 1777 to administer advice and medicine to the poor of the Borough of Southwark and places adjacent. It was once one of the largest dispensaries in south London.

Great Dover Street is a road in Southwark, south London, England. At the northwest end it joins Marshalsea Road and Borough High Street and there is a junction with Long Lane; Borough Underground station is at this location. At the southeast end is the Bricklayers Arms roundabout and flyover. The road is part of the A2 and this continues south-east as the Old Kent Road.

Southwark ( (listen) SUDH-ərk) is a district of Central London situated on the south bank of the River Thames, forming the north-western part of the wider modern London Borough of Southwark. The district, which is the oldest part of South London, developed due to its position at the southern end of the early versions of London Bridge, the only crossing point for many miles. London’s historic core, the City of London, lay north of the Bridge and for centuries the area of Southwark just south of the bridge was governed by the City. By the 12th century Southwark had been incorporated as an ancient borough, and this historic status is reflected in the alternative name of the area, as Borough. The ancient borough of Southwark's river frontage extended from the modern borough boundary, just to the west of by the Oxo Tower, to St Saviour's Dock (originally the mouth of the River Neckinger) in the east. The urban area expanded over the years and Southwark was separated from the City in 1900. Local points of interest include Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market, Shakespeare's Globe theatre, The Shard, Tower Bridge, Butler's Wharf and the City Hall offices of the Greater London Authority from 2002 to 2021.

Newington is a district of South London, just south of the River Thames, and part of the London Borough of Southwark. It was an ancient parish and the site of the early administration of the county of Surrey. It was the location of the County of London Sessions House from 1917, in a building now occupied by the Inner London Crown Court.

Merrick Square is a garden square in Newington, London. The square is named after Christopher Merrick who in 1661 left land to Trinity House. There are 32 houses that were built from 1853 to 1872, and they overlook a private garden in the centre, which is still enclosed by its original 19th-century cast-iron railings.In 1861, the cricketer Alfred Mynn died at his brother's house at 22 Merrick Square.

Tabard Gardens is a small park in Southwark, London. It is located on Tabard Street (itself named after the former Tabard public house) and gives its name to the surrounding Tabard Gardens Estate. The park was created as part of a slum clearance programme by the London County Council and opened in 1929. It is owned and managed by Southwark Council.

The statue of Alfred the Great in Southwark is thought to be London's oldest outdoor statue. The lower portion comes from a Roman statue dating to the late 1st or early 2nd century AD, while the top portion is a late 18th- or early 19th-century Coade stone addition in medieval style.

Trinity Church Square, formerly known as Trinity Square, is a garden square in Newington in the London Borough of Southwark. Trinity Church, in the centre of the square, has been the classical music rehearsal and recording venue Henry Wood Hall for nearly 50 years. It was built in 1824, and from 1826 to 1968 served as the parish church of the parish of Holy Trinity. It was declared redundant in 1968 and converted into an orchestral venue in 1975. The statue of a king on the stone plinth in the square is Grade II listed. The statue was speculated to be one of eight medieval statues from the north end towers of Westminster Hall (c. late 14th century) or, alternatively, one of a pair representing Alfred the Great and Edward, the Black Prince made for the garden of Carlton House in the 18th century. Analysis in 2021 showed that the top part was of Coade stone but the legs were Roman and of Bath stone.John Belcher lived at no 60 from 1849 to 1852, with his father, also an architect called John Belcher. They had previously lived nearby at 3 Montague Terrace (now 8 Brockham Street), where Belcher was born in 1841.The publisher and bookseller William Tegg (1816–95), son of Thomas Tegg (1776–1845), lived at no 11 from 1848 to 1852.The English Congregationalist divine Thomas Binney lived at no 40 from 1831 to 1832, and later lived at no 5.

The Henry Wood Hall is an orchestral rehearsal and recording studio in Trinity Church Square, Southwark, London, named after the conductor Sir Henry Wood. Formerly the Holy Trinity Church, it was designed in 1823–24 by Francis Octavius Bedford.In 1970, The London Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestras, carried out an assessment of various churches in London with a view to creating a new permanent orchestral rehearsal studio in London. Following their research into disused churches, the Holy Trinity Church in Southwark was identified and subsequently opened in 1975. The hall was named after Sir Henry Wood, an English conductor best known for his association with London's annual series of promenade concerts, informally known as the Proms, after receiving a substantial donation from the Henry Wood Fund (set up to rebuild the blitzed Queen's Hall).Visiting orchestras include the St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Japan Philharmonic which have recorded and rehearsed at the venue with many others.

Southwark Coroner's Court is the Coroner's Court for inner south London. It is located at Tennis Street, London. The court covers cases for the London boroughs of Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

Ark Globe Academy (combining the former Geoffrey Chaucer Technology College and Joseph Lancaster Primary School) is a mixed all-through school located in Southwark, London, England.The school caters for children from nursery age through to sixth form. It is part of the Ark school network, operated by the charitable organisation Ark. The academy moved to a new purpose built combined building in 2010. Globe Academy (later Ark Globe Academy) was created as an academy in 2008 from a merger of Geoffrey Chaucer Technology College and Joseph Lancaster Primary School. Barack Obama and David Cameron visited the school on 24 May 2011.

Borough is a London Underground station in the Borough area of the London Borough of Southwark in central London. It is on the Bank branch of the Northern line between Elephant & Castle and London Bridge stations. It is in Travelcard Zone 1. The station entrance is in Borough High Street (part of the A3), on the corner of Marshalsea Road. The A2 terminates opposite it.
