Fauntleroy Creek

An Ayahos (Lushootseed: ʔayahus; spelled variously in English as A'yahos, Ayahus, Aiyahus) is a spirit power in the traditional religion of the Lushootseed-speaking peoples of Puget Sound. A rock near the Fauntleroy ferry terminal in Seattle, Washington is associated with the Ayahus.: 118  The Ayahos is a "malevolent and dangerous" spirit,: 72  capable of shapeshifting, who sometimes appears in a two-headed serpent form, who is associated with other earthquake-related areas like landslides near the Seattle Fault.LIDAR imagery of the Seattle area revealed a previously unknown landslide in the Fauntleroy area. Another area associated with the Ayahos near Mercer Island could be related to the Lake Washington sunken forests, caused by landslides triggered by a Seattle Fault event around 900 CE.

Fauntleroy is a neighborhood in the southwest corner of Seattle, Washington. Part of West Seattle and situated on Puget Sound's Fauntleroy Cove (into which Fauntleroy Creek flows from its source in Fauntleroy Park), it faces Vashon Island, Blake Island, and the Kitsap Peninsula to the west. On sunny days, many locations in the neighborhood offer views of the Olympic Mountains, which are about 40 miles (64 km) to the west. The neighborhood adjoins Lincoln Park to the north, Fauntlee Hills to the east, and Arbor Heights to the south. Within Fauntleroy is an area known as Endolyne (the "end of the line" of the Fauntleroy Park streetcar route in the early 1900s). Fauntleroy is home to an eponymous Washington State Ferries terminal, providing service to Vashon Island and Southworth. Fauntleroy Way runs into the West Seattle Bridge, which runs across the Duwamish Waterway (Duwamish River).

Lincoln Park is a 135 acres (0.55 km2) park in West Seattle alongside Puget Sound. The park's attractions include forest trails, a paved walkway along the beach, athletic fields, picnic shelters, and a heated saltwater swimming pool which is open during the summer. The park is adjacent to the Fauntleroy neighborhood.

Fauntleroy Park is a 32.9-acre (13.3 ha) park in the Fauntleroy neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Fauntleroy Creek begins here. Nearby Lincoln Park was called Fauntleroy Park until 1922. The steep slopes that make up over 30% of the heavily wooded park rendered the land unbuildable, saving this property from the development of the adjacent neighborhood that began in the first decade of the 20th century and continued for more than half a century. The city acquired the land for a park in 1971. Unlike many Seattle parks, much of Fauntleroy Park remains essentially native habitat, a forest remnant undergoing natural succession. 18 acres of the park consists of hardwood and riparian forest; there are about 10 acres of conifer and mixed forests and approximately 5 acres of wetlands. Volunteers have been removing non-native weeds since 1996.Although within city limits, the park is a natural green space and wildlife habitat including the headwaters of a historically fish-bearing stream, Fauntleroy Creek, rather than an urban park.: 1–1, 3–1  The stream was once home to cutthroat trout; these are no longer found there, but local schoolchildren have restored stream habitat and stocked the stream with Coho salmon. Human activities there are generally limited to low-impact recreation such as walking, birdwatching and other observing of nature; it is not a site for more aggressive trail use such as mountain biking, and it lacks facilities for organized sports.: 1–1 A local organization, the Friends of Fauntleroy Park founded in 1996, advocates for the park, with a focus on preservation and restoration of the park as a natural area, public education and use, and stewardship.: 3–1, 2–4  Two other organizations focus on the watershed that has its headwaters in the park: Friends of Fauntleroy Creek, established 1989, and the Fauntleroy Creek Watershed Council, established 2001.: 3–1  The United Church of Christ Fauntleroy Church, adjacent to the park is listed as "Fauntleroy Community Church and YMCA" is a Seattle landmark.: 2–7 

Gatewood is a neighborhood in West Seattle, Seattle, Washington. Situated on the highest hill in Seattle it overlooks Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and downtown Seattle. It is generally bounded to the north and south by Raymond and Thistle Streets respectively, to the east by 35th Avenue, and the west by California Avenue and Fauntleroy Way. The neighborhood's landmarks include the Gatewood School, currently an elementary school. It is minutes from Lincoln Park.

Arbor Heights is a neighborhood in West Seattle, Washington, made up of the area south of SW Roxbury Street, north and east of Puget Sound, but excluding the downhill portion on the west side of this region. It is the southernmost section of West Seattle.

Washington's 7th congressional district encompasses most of Seattle and Burien, and all of Vashon Island, Lake Forest Park, Shoreline, and Normandy Park. Since 2017, the 7th district has been represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Democrat Pramila Jayapal. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+36, it is the most Democratic district in Washington.The 7th is the most Democratic district in the Pacific Northwest, and the most Democratic district on the West Coast outside the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles. It is also the most Democratic majority-white district in the United States. Democrats dominate every level of government, and routinely win elections with well over 70% of the vote. Al Gore won the 7th in 2000 with 72% of the vote, while John Kerry won 79% in 2004. Barack Obama took 84% of the vote in 2008. Washington's seventh seat in the U.S. House was added after the 1950 census, but the state did not immediately reapportion. It was contested as a statewide at-large seat in three elections, 1952, 1954, and 1956, and voters cast ballots for two congressional seats, their district and the at-large. Democrat Donald H. Magnuson won all three at-large elections. The 1958 election was the first after the state reapportioned to seven districts; Magnuson was elected to the new district in 1958 and 1960, but lost in 1962.

Westwood is a neighborhood in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is located in the southwest of the city, close to the neighboring CDP of White Center. Westwood is known for its International Baccalaureate high school, Chief Sealth High.

Chief Sealth International High School (CSIHS) is a public high school in the Seattle Public Schools district of Seattle, Washington. Opened in 1957 in southern West Seattle, Chief Sealth students comprise one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse student bodies in Washington State. The school is named for Chief Seattle, a Duwamish chief and a recognized leader amongst the local peoples at the time of the arrival of European American settlers in the area. The school shares a campus with Denny International Middle School (DIMS).

Denny International Middle School (DIMS) is a middle school in West Seattle, the southwest portion of Seattle, Washington. Operated by Seattle Public Schools. It is named for David T. Denny, one of Seattle’s early settlers and an early member of the Seattle School Board. The school shares a campus with Chief Sealth International High School (CSIHS) which together provide a joint facility for students in grades 6-12. The school's student population is racially and culturally diverse and the programs offered reflect this.

Seaview is a neighborhood in West Seattle, Washington. Seaview is bordered by Puget Sound to the west, the Alki and Genesee neighborhoods to the north, Fairmount Park to the east, and Gatewood to the south.Seaview is also the name of a neighborhood in Edmonds, Washington.

Delridge is a district in Seattle, Washington, United States that stretches along Delridge Way, an arterial that follows the eastern slope of the valley of Longfellow Creek, from near its source just within the southern city limits north to the West Seattle Bridge over the Duwamish River. It is generally associated with the neighborhing district of West Seattle, or even considered a sub-district of West Seattle. The Delridge district is a mostly residential and open space district that lies generally between the eastern ridge on which South Seattle College sits and the western ridge that peaks in the High Point district. The Delridge Neighborhood Plan Area includes most of the area within the valley itself. Some other nearby neighborhoods also have Neighborhood Plan Areas.The City of Seattle also uses the term Delridge more loosely to describe an informal collection of neighborhoods near the Delridge valley. This area is not precisely defined but often is considered to be bounded by the Duwamish River to the north and east, unincorporated White Center to the south, and West Seattle to the west along 35th Avenue SW. That area includes (north to south, east to west) the Pigeon Point, Youngstown, Puget Ridge, Riverview, High Point, Highland Park, Westwood, and Roxhill neighborhoods, and some industrial areas near the river.Pigeon Point is the northern end of the bluff above the Duwamish, east of the old Youngstown neighborhood that surrounds the steel mill, in what real estate listings often now call North Delridge. South Delridge has also replaced Westwood on some maps, but neither of the new half-Delridge terms have entered common speech among longtime area residents. Boeing Hill is the steep forested slope up which Highland Park Way courses. Like other nearby areas outside Delridge's own Longfellow Creek valley, this large greenbelt on the Duwamish's west bank is sometimes included in "Delridge Neighborhoods" in recent City maps and documents, as are the industrial area north of Spokane Street, Harbor Island, and the northern part of the heavy-industrial zone east of West Marginal Way along the lower Duwamish Waterway serving the Industrial District.
