Aberbechan Hall

Aberbechan was formerly a township in the parish of Llanllwchaearn in the historic county of Montgomeryshire. The township of Aberbechan was transferred to Bettws Cedewain and more recently moved, together with the township of Dolforwyn, into the community of Abermule and Llandyssil in Powys, Wales. There is a chapel The former township is also the home of Aberbechan Hall.

Penarth is a timber-framed house set back from the A483 road near to Newtown, Wales, close to the banks of the river Severn. It is within the parish of Llanllwchaiarn, within the historic county of Montgomeryshire, which now forms part of Powys. It is amongst the best examples of the ‘‘Severn Valley’’ timber-framed houses. The Penarth vineyard stands within the grounds of the house.

Dolforwyn Castle (Welsh: Castell Dolforwyn) is a Welsh medieval castle above the village of Abermule, Powys. The fortification was established by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Prince of Gwynedd in the late 13th century. It is sited on a wooded ridge commanding excellent views of the upper Severn Valley. Dolforwyn Castle is a fine example of Welsh castle design as opposed to those built by the English during their conquests of Wales.

Situated under the ramparts of Dolforwyn Castle, near Abermule in the Welsh county of Powys in the United Kingdom, Yew tree cottage is a part 17th century timber-framed structure which once belonged to the celebrated antiquarian John Davies Knatchbull Lloyd. It is home to the 'Dolforwyn yew' (taxus baccata), listed among the 850 most significant yews of England and Wales. The Dolforwyn yew has a girth of more than 18 feet (5.5 m) making it, according to dating graphs, more than a thousand years old, and much older than the castle above. The Dolforwyn yew is female and has small white flowers followed by very poisonous red berries. It is associated with a well 13 feet (4.0 m) distant, which has a depth of more than 20 feet (6.1 m) hewn through solid bedrock. It has been conjectured that this may be a Holy well since sacred wells were often associated with yews.

Radio Hafren was an Independent Local Radio station in the United Kingdom, serving Mid Wales and the English border counties and broadcasting on 756 AM and 102.1 FM. It was officially launched on Christmas Day 2010 after its bid to take over the licence of Radio Maldwyn was accepted on 15 December 2010, initially broadcasting on only 756 AM. On 11 August 2014, at 10:21am Radio Hafren starting broadcasting on 102.1 FM to the two largest population centers (Newtown and Welshpool) in its coverage area, using a frequency allocated in 2011. On Wednesday 11 February 2015 Radio Hafren closed down because it was financially unviable.

St Llwchaiarn's church, Llanllwchaiarn was the parish church of Llanllwchaiarn, now within the community of Newtown with Llanllwchaiarn and lies within the historic county of Montgomeryshire in Powys. The church occupies a position on rising ground overlooking the river Severn and is to the north east of Newtown. The present church was rebuilt in 1816. In 2011 the medieval carved screen, originally from St Mary's church in Newtown, was re-positioned in Llanllwchaiarn church

Llanmerewig is a historic parish in Powys, Wales, in the historic county of Montgomeryshire, and is situated between Newtown and Welshpool. The church and small village stand on high ground, which overlooks the river Severn, and is close to Abermule; part of which lies within the parish. The river Severn forms the North Western boundary of the parish and the Eastern boundary is the river Mule, which cuts through a steep gorge, before entering the Severn at Abermule. The historic parish covered 1,023 acres.

The A489, officially known as the Newtown to Machynlleth Trunk Road in Wales, is a trunk road in the United Kingdom running from Craven Arms, Shropshire to Machynlleth, Powys and crossing the Wales-England border. The road starts about one mile north of Craven Arms. From here it travels through Lydham, Churchstoke, Newtown, Caersws, Cemmaes Road and Machynlleth. Between Caersws and Cemmaes Road, the road appears to 'disappear', where it is travelling with the A470, which takes priority. The same happens in Lydham, albeit for a much shorter distance, where the A488 takes priority. A new section of road, the Newtown Bypass, was completed in 2019.

Abermule railway station served the village of Abermule (Abermiwl in Welsh) in Wales. Served by the Oswestry and Newtown railway, it was situated on the English border. Until 1956 it was the junction for the short branch to Kerry, which had a passenger service until 1931 but was largely built for the local timber traffic.

The Abermule train collision was a head-on collision which occurred at Abermule, Montgomeryshire, Wales on Wednesday 26 January 1921, killing 17 people. The crash arose from misunderstandings between staff which effectively over-rode the safe operation of the Electric Train Tablet system protecting the single line. A train departed carrying the wrong tablet for the section it was entering and collided with a train coming the other way.

Abermule (Welsh: Aber-miwl) is a village lying on the River Severn 6 km (4 miles) northeast of Newtown in Powys, mid Wales. The A483 Swansea to Chester trunk road, the Cambrian Line railway, connecting Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury, and the Montgomery Canal, close to the river, all pass through Abermule. The village had a population of 900 as of the 2011 census.The village is part of the Abermule with Llandyssil community.

Bettws Cedewain (Welsh: Betws Cedewain), also known as Bettws Cedewen, is a small village and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales. It lies in a sheltered valley on the banks of the River Bechan, some 3 miles (5 km) north of Newtown, on the B4389 road. The community is known as Betws Cedewain, and includes the hamlets of Highgate and Brooks. A wooden motte-and-bailey castle appears to have existed there at one time. The site was also possibly previously used by Roman soldiers, and an ancient church was founded there by Saint Beuno in the 6th century. Bettws Cedewain's Grade II* listed St Beuno's church, which was the location of the village's first schoolroom, contains possibly the only pre-Reformation memorial brass in the county, dedicated to the Reverend John ap Meredyth for his work in planning and building the tower. Until 1914, most properties in the village belonged to the Gregynog estate. Bettws Hall is a local venue for game bird shoots.The first element in the name of the village is from the Middle English word bedhus, meaning "prayer house", which became betws in Welsh. Cedewain is the name of the medieval land division, or cantref, in which the village is situated.
