Llanmerewig

Ffronfraith Halt railway station was a station in Llanmerewig, Powys, Wales. The station was opened on 9 July 1923 and closed on 9 February 1931. It had a short and narrow platform on the east side of the line which was constructed from stone backfilled with cinders. Access was via a sloping path that led up to a bridge that spanned the line and linked to the Kerry - Abermule road. The platform is still extant.

Fronfraith Hall is a mid-Victorian house in the historic parish of Llandyssil in the shire area of Montgomeryshire in Powys. Fronfraith also appears in records as Bronfraith and Vronvraith. Fronfraith was also a township within the parish of Llandyssil. The present house was built in 1863 under the supervision of the Shrewsbury architect James Pickard This house replaced a large house, probably a half-timbered Tudor mansion, which had been the home of the Morgan family. In 1966, the west wing of the Fronfraith Hall was badly damaged as the result of a fire, but has now been restored. The Hall is now partly used as a guest house.

Abermule railway station served the village of Abermule (Abermiwl in Welsh) in Wales. Served by the Oswestry and Newtown railway, it was situated on the English border. Until 1956 it was the junction for the short branch to Kerry, which had a passenger service until 1931 but was largely built for the local timber traffic.

The Abermule train collision was a head-on collision which occurred at Abermule, Montgomeryshire, Wales on Wednesday 26 January 1921, killing 17 people. The crash arose from misunderstandings between staff which effectively over-rode the safe operation of the Electric Train Tablet system protecting the single line. A train departed carrying the wrong tablet for the section it was entering and collided with a train coming the other way.

Abermule (Welsh: Aber-miwl) is a village lying on the River Severn 6 km (4 miles) northeast of Newtown in Powys, mid Wales. The A483 Swansea to Chester trunk road, the Cambrian Line railway, connecting Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury, and the Montgomery Canal, close to the river, all pass through Abermule. The village had a population of 900 as of the 2011 census.The village is part of the Abermule with Llandyssil community.

Kerry railway station was a station in Glanmule, Powys, Wales. The station was opened in July 1863, closed to passengers on 9 February 1931 and closed completely on 1 May 1956. The station was located a mile from Kerry within the fork of the Kerry and Sarn road (the A489) and the Abermule road (B4368) to the west of the Afon Miwl. The branch was single track and the station had a single platform located on the south side of the line. It was provided with an attractive cottage ornée building consisting of a two-storey station house and contiguous single-storey office range. The gables were adorned with pierced bargeboards. At the west end of the platform there was a turntable. The station also had goods facilities located on the north side of the branch, which included two sidings, a goods shed and a loading ramp. There was also an engine shed on east side of the site. Only the station building remains today. It is used as a private residence.

Goitre Halt railway station was a station in Llanmerewig, Powys, Wales. The station was opened on 9 July 1923 and closed on 9 February 1931. The halt was on the east side of the line, consisting of a short platform constructed from stone, backfilled with earth and cinders. There was also a siding here which connected to the branch to the south of the halt and terminated at the rear of the platform thus giving very little space for passengers. There are no remains of the halt today.

Situated under the ramparts of Dolforwyn Castle, near Abermule in the Welsh county of Powys in the United Kingdom, Yew tree cottage is a part 17th century timber-framed structure which once belonged to the celebrated antiquarian John Davies Knatchbull Lloyd. It is home to the 'Dolforwyn yew' (taxus baccata), listed among the 850 most significant yews of England and Wales. The Dolforwyn yew has a girth of more than 18 feet (5.5 m) making it, according to dating graphs, more than a thousand years old, and much older than the castle above. The Dolforwyn yew is female and has small white flowers followed by very poisonous red berries. It is associated with a well 13 feet (4.0 m) distant, which has a depth of more than 20 feet (6.1 m) hewn through solid bedrock. It has been conjectured that this may be a Holy well since sacred wells were often associated with yews.

Glanmule (Welsh: Glan-miwl) is a small village in the north of Powys, Wales. It is located in Montgomeryshire, approximately 2.5 miles to the east of Newtown. It stands at the junction of the B4368 and A489 roads, two miles from the Welsh-English border. In the Middle Ages, Glanmule was the regional capital of the commote of Ceri. The village is named for its location on the Afon Miwl.

Dolforwyn Castle (Welsh: Castell Dolforwyn) is a Welsh medieval castle above the village of Abermule, Powys. The fortification was established by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Prince of Gwynedd in the late 13th century. It is sited on a wooded ridge commanding excellent views of the upper Severn Valley. Dolforwyn Castle is a fine example of Welsh castle design as opposed to those built by the English during their conquests of Wales.

Aberbechan was formerly a township in the parish of Llanllwchaearn in the historic county of Montgomeryshire. The township of Aberbechan was transferred to Bettws Cedewain and more recently moved, together with the township of Dolforwyn, into the community of Abermule and Llandyssil in Powys, Wales. There is a chapel The former township is also the home of Aberbechan Hall.

Penarth is a timber-framed house set back from the A483 road near to Newtown, Wales, close to the banks of the river Severn. It is within the parish of Llanllwchaiarn, within the historic county of Montgomeryshire, which now forms part of Powys. It is amongst the best examples of the ‘‘Severn Valley’’ timber-framed houses. The Penarth vineyard stands within the grounds of the house.
