The buildings were built between about 1883 and 1960, and characterized by one- and two-story brick commercial buildings. Notable buildings include the Classical Revival style Mount Holly Bank, Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (1903), First Presbyterian Church (1927), and Charlie's Drugs and Sundries (1960).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Mount Holly is a small suburban city in northeastern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The city is situated just west of the Catawba River, north of Interstate 85, south of North Carolina State Highway 16. The population was 17,703 at the 2020 census, up from 13,656 in 2010.

The U.S. National Whitewater Center (USNWC) is a not-for-profit outdoor recreation and athletic training facility for whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking hiking and ice skating which opened to the public on 2006. The Center is located in Charlotte, North Carolina on approximately 1,300 acres (530 ha) of land adjacent to the Catawba River, with more than 45 miles (72 km) of developed trail. The Center's primary feature is the world's largest and most complex recirculating artificial whitewater river. The river channels were designed by three-time Olympian Scott Shipley.

St. Joseph Seminary is a Roman Catholic diocesan Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Charlotte. The seminary itself is temporarily on the campus of St. Ann Catholic Church in the St. Joseph Monastery formerly used by the Poor Clares, while a more permanent seminary is built near the campus of Belmont Abbey College in 2018. In the meantime, seminarians are commuting regularly to Belmont Abbey for regular core classes.

North Carolina's 14th congressional district will be a new congressional district in the United States House of Representatives created after the 2020 United States census. The newly created district, based in western Charlotte, was drawn by a three-judge panel in the Wake County Superior Court as part of a remedial map for the 2022 United States House of Representatives elections. Cities in the district will include most of Charlotte, Gastonia, Mount Holly, and Belmont. Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties are the only in the district.

Mountain Island is an unincorporated community in eastern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. Not to be confused with the Charlotte neighborhood of the same name in Mecklenburg County. It is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Mount Holly. Its name comes from a small island in Mountain Island Lake, on the border of Gaston and Mecklenburg counties. Located on the extreme southwestern end of the lake, the island is mainly used as an anchor point for recreation, picnicking, and camping. A cotton mill, said by some authorities to be the first in Gaston County, was established on Mountain Island in 1848 by Thomas R. Tate and Henry Humphreys, owners of the Mount Hecla steam-powered mill near Greensboro, North Carolina. They hoped to take advantage of the less expensive water power from the Catawba River. The site at river's edge featured a partially completed canal around the shoals that could be used for a mill race, and a steep island whose top now rises from the lake. Machinery was moved from the Mount Hecla mill by mule-drawn wagon and operations began in 1849. A village of brick houses grew around the mill. The mill and village were destroyed on July 15, 1916, in a flood caused by a hurricane.In 1920 the Charlottesville, Virginia company of Rinehart and Dennis was awarded a Duke Power Company contract to build a dam at Mountain Island for the purpose of using water power to generate electricity. To supplement housing for its workers, a large number of temporary frame houses were built by the contractor. In 1923, only seven years after the flood, the Mountain Island Hydroelectric Plant was completed and in service. The Mountain Island Dam and Hydroelectric Station still operates today. St. Joseph's Catholic Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church is a historic church located near Mount Holly, North Carolina, Gaston County, North Carolina. It was the fourth Catholic church built in North Carolina, the first west of Raleigh, and the first in what is today the Diocese of Charlotte. Built to serve the Irish miners in the area, it underwent a long period of neglect until restoration efforts began in the mid-20th century. Today it is operated as a mission church of Queen of the Apostles Church in Belmont.

Brown Town is an unincorporated community in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is located on the eastern edge of the town of Belmont along the Catawba River. Fire protection in Brown Town is provided by Community Volunteer Fire Department.

Belmont Abbey College is a private, Catholic liberal arts college in Belmont, North Carolina. It was founded in 1876 by the Benedictine monks of Belmont Abbey. The school is affiliated with the Catholic Church and the Order of Saint Benedict. It is endorsed by The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. Belmont Abbey is the only college in North Carolina affiliated with the Catholic Church. Offering an undergraduate education, the college enrolls students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.

Belmont Abbey is an American-Cassinese monastery of Benedictine monks and a minor basilica in the town of Belmont, North Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte. The Abbey Basilica of Mary Help of Christians was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Riverbend Township is a township in northeastern Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 26,596.It contains the northern portion of the city of Mount Holly, most of the town of Stanley, and a small portion of the town of Spencer Mountain, as well as the unincorporated communities of Mountain Island and Lucia.

Edward M. Rozzell House is a historic home located near Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built about 1880, and is a two-story, three-bay, frame I-house with a kitchen ell. It has a side-gable roof and stucco covered brick end chimneys. Also on the property are the contributing corn crib (c. 1900) and single-pen log barn (c. 1880).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
