The Jon Sims Center for the Performing Arts (JSCPA) was a multidisciplinary performing arts center in San Francisco, California, that supported artistic voices of all performing artists no matter their sexual identity or preferences. The Center provided resources to support and promote new and existing arts programs. JSCPA was the "official" home to many groups, including the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Marching Band (seated concert band), the San Francisco Tap Troupe, City Swing with Gail Wilson, the Barbary Coast Cloggers and the original home of the Pacific Ballet headed by Kaz Zmuda. At its height, the resources JSPCA provided artists included three rehearsal/performance spaces and networking resources for local performing artists, as well as funding for at least one artist-in-residence annually. The Pacific Ballet Center became the permanent home of the San Francisco Tap Troupe in 1983. Two years later Pacific Ballet offered to let the SF Tap Troupe take over management of building. The group approached the board of the SF Band Foundation and the board agreed to take control of 1519 Mission Street and signed a new lease. The Jon Sims Center opened in 1985, a year after the death of Jon Reed Sims, the founder of the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Marching Band and Twirling Corps (now the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band). Sims, who died of AIDS in 1984, also founded the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, the San Francisco Lesbian Gay chorus and Lambda Pro Musica (a classical seated group). Sims later founded the San Francisco Tap Troupe with his close friend Rosie Radiator. The Center closed in November 2006 following a financial crisis that included the disappearance of $35,000 in grant money. Longer-term problems included the lack of a stable, long-term board and executive director, despite determined efforts to keep the institution alive. The Sims Center was located at 1519 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA 94103.

Fifteen Fifty is a 40-story, 400-foot (120 m) residential skyscraper at 1550 Mission Street in San Francisco, California.The tower is located in the South of the Market neighborhood. The interior was planned by Marmol Radziner and the exterior was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The building has 550 rooms and includes a 12,000 square-foot park. Construction began in 2018 and it was completed in 2020. It is one of San Francisco's newest high-rises and is the 57th tallest building in the city.

NEMA, also known as Tenth and Market, is a 754-unit luxury residential apartment complex in the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California, United States, across the street from Twitter's corporate headquarters. The complex consists of a 24-story, tower at Jessie and Tenth Streets and a 37-story, tower at Market and Tenth Streets, connected by a nine-story podium along Tenth Street.

Market Square (formerly the Western Furniture Exchange and Merchandise Mart, the San Francisco Mart, and, colloquially, the Twitter Building) is an Art Deco building in the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California, United States. Located at 1355 Market Street, it was constructed in 1937 and originally served as a showroom for retailers and wholesalers in the furniture industry. In the early 21st century, the building underwent an extensive conversion into office and retail space, and today is most well known as the headquarters for X Corp., the owner of the social networking service Twitter.

Van Ness station is an underground Muni Metro station on the Market Street subway at the intersection of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue (U.S. Route 101) in San Francisco, California. The station consists of a concourse mezzanine on the first floor down, and a single island platform on the second level down. Service at the station began in February 1980.The station has suffered flooding during heavy rainstorms, including one in October 2009, and another in December 2014 which damaged an electrical equipment room. In February 2017, the SFMTA signed a $1.9 million contract to repair water-damaged wiring in the room.This station is at the southern terminus of the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit route. Under the proposed western variant of the planned Better Market Street project, the outbound F stop would be moved across the intersection.

VIZ Media LLC is an American manga publisher, anime distributor and entertainment company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1986 as VIZ LLC. In 2005, VIZ LLC and ShoPro Entertainment merged to form the current VIZ Media LLC, which is owned by Japanese publishing conglomerates Shueisha and Shogakukan, as well as Japanese production company Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions (ShoPro). In 2017, Viz Media was the largest publisher of graphic novels in the United States, with a 23% share of the market. In 2020, Viz Media saw a 70% growth in the U.S. market, in line with a 43% increase in overall manga sales in the United States the same year.

The Fillmore West was a historic rock and roll music venue in San Francisco, California, US which became famous under the direction of concert promoter Bill Graham from 1968 to 1971. Named after The Fillmore at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Geary Boulevard (which was Graham's principal venue from 1966 to 1968), it stood at the southwest corner of Market Street and South Van Ness Avenue in the Civic Center district. In June 2018, the top two floors of the building reopened as SVN West, a new concert and corporate event venue.

The James Lick Baths (also known as the People's Laundry Building and 165 Tenth Street) in the South of Market District of San Francisco, California. It is a San Francisco Designated Landmark. It combined aspects of public bathing and self-service laundry.

The Fox Theatre was a 4,651-seat movie palace located at 1350 Market Street in San Francisco, California. The theater was designed by the noted theater architect, Thomas W. Lamb. Opened in 1929, the theater operated until 1963, when it was closed and demolished.

La Mamelle, Inc. / Art Com was a not-for-profit arts organization, artist-run space, or alternative exhibition space, active from 1975 through 1995, and was located at 70-12th Street in the South of Market-area of San Francisco, California. The organization's first venture was publishing but it became involved in a multiplicity of activities including maintaining an artists' space and presenting exhibitions and events of mail art, performance art, conceptual photography, video art production and screenings, a library, distributing artist-produced works, and creating one of the first artists' online networks.

Fox Plaza is a 29-story building located at 1390 Market Street in the Civic Center area of San Francisco. Built in 1966, the tower stands 354 ft (108 m) on the site of the former historic Fox Theatre at 1350 Market, which was opened in June 1929 and demolished in 1963.The first twelve floors contain office space. Unlike many buildings, Fox Plaza has a 13th floor actually labeled "13", although this floor is the service floor and is not rented out. The 14th floor contains laundry facilities as well as apartments, while floors 15 through 29 are exclusively rental apartments. The ground floor contains a gymnasium for residents. There is a corner low rise retail component housing a Credit Union, Gym, offices, Starbucks, and a US Post Office. The current owners are in the early planning and permitting stages to demolish the low-rise retail and replace it with a 120 ft (37 m) building containing condominiums.

An important part of the counterculture of the 1970s, Project One- sometimes described as a technological commune - was an intentional community in San Francisco, California, U.S. Located at 1380 Howard St. in an 84,000 sq.ft warehouse, formerly an abandoned candy factory, the community functioned from 1970 to 1980 and was the first "warehouse community" in San Francisco. Occupied by a shifting mix of students, craftspeople, artisans, sculptors, filmmakers, and technologists, Project One was anchored by a number of organizations. See below. The community had no formal organizational structure. Decisions were made through a voluntary weekly meeting of members who made decisions based on a consensus of those present.Project One was initiated by architect Ralph Scott, a former student of Buckminster Fuller, and rapidly became an interdisciplinary learning environment. Central to the concept was Symbas Alternative High School, founded by Scott and located in a large, high-ceiling space on the first floor. Many of these resident non-profit organizations and small businesses were brought in to serve as resources for the students, who were also members of the larger community.
