Golden Belt Historic District

Durham Hosiery Mill is a historic textile mill complex located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It includes seven contributing brick buildings in the complex. The original Durham Hosiery Mill was built in 1902, and consists of a four-story main building with a six-story Romanesque Revival style tower in front; engine, boiler, and heater houses attached at the rear, and a one-story dye house. The main building was expanded with a two-story annex in 1904, and a three-story annex in 1906. Other buildings include the triangular Annex No. 1 (1912) and a three-story brick finishing building. By 1910, the Durham Hosiery Mills Corporation was the largest manufacturer of cotton hosiery in the world. The mill was abandoned in 1922.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Erwin Cotton Mills Company Mill No. 1 Headquarters Building, also known as Erwin Square, is a historic textile mill complex located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The mill was built in 1892, and is a two-story, 748 feet long, brick building. It features three square towers projecting from the east facade and by hundreds of large and closely spaced windows. The building exemplifies "slow burn" construction with its exterior load bearing brick walls and its heavy timber heart pine beams and columns. The headquarters building is a Late Victorian style brick building built in 1892 and enlarged in 1896 and 1905. Attached to the headquarters building is a warehouse. In 1983–1984, the complex was renovated as offices and apartments.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is located in the West Durham Historic District.

Durham Hosiery Mills Dye House is a historic textile mill building located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It was constructed by the Durham Hosiery Mills Corporation in three sections between 1920 and 1921. They are the boiler room, office / warehouse, and dyeing area. It is constructed of exterior reinforced concrete bearing walls, steel trusses and a heavy timber (“slow burn”) structural system.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Holloway Street District is a national historic district located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The district encompasses 116 contributing buildings and 2 contributing structures in a predominantly residential section of Durham. They were built between the 1880s and 1945 and include notable examples of Classical Revival, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, with a boundary increase in 2009.

Triangle Brewing Co. (TBC) was a microbrewery owned and operated entirely by business partners (and high-school friends) Rick "the Brewer" Tufts and Andy "the Bloke" Miller who, in 2005, resettled in Durham, North Carolina from Connecticut. Andy Miller had extensive local restaurant management experience, and Rick Tufts apprenticed at Flying Fish Brewing Company and was an avid homebrewer long before founding a new brewery. TBC began selling beer on July 4, 2007 and was the only microbrewery in Durham. The arrival of a microbrewery in Durham is arguably part of the current downtown art, building, and cultural Renaissance.

Wright's Automatic Machinery Company, also known as Wright Machinery Company and Wright's Automatic Tobacco Packing Machine Company, is a historic machine factory located at Durham, North Carolina.

Durham Hosiery Mills No. 2–Service Printing Company Building was a historic textile mill building located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It was the remaining section of a one-story brick building constructed by the Durham Hosiery Mills Corporation in 1916. The other section was destroyed by a fire in 1979. It featured tall segmental arched windows, heavy exposed curved rafter ends in the eaves, and a monitor roof. After 1947, it housed the Service Printing Company.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It subsequently was destroyed by fire in 1985.

St. Joseph's African Methodist Episcopal Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal church building located at Fayetteville Street and Durham Expressway in the Hayti District, now a neighborhood of Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. Started soon after the American Civil War by black workers, the Hayti District became a well-developed and self-sufficient black community, complete with a variety of businesses and services, including theatre, hospital and hotel.The church was built in 1891, by a congregation that had organized in 1869, brought together in meetings in a "brush arbor" organized by Edian Markham, a former slave and AME missionary. After building a couple of wooden structures, the congregation raised money for this brick church, including funds donated by white philanthropists.Edian Markham is buried in Geer Cemetery. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.It is now used by the St. Joseph Historic Foundation as the Hayti Heritage Centre for cultural and community activities.

The Durham Public Schools district is a public school district in Durham, North Carolina. Formed in 1992 with the merger of Durham's previous two school districts, it is 8th largest school system in North Carolina as of November 2020. There are 55 public schools in the system, consisting of 31 elementary (K-5), 9 middle (6–8), 2 secondary (6–12), 11 high (9–12), 1 alternative, 1 hospital school, and 1 virtual academy (K-12). Durham's schools are traditionally named after notable members of the local community.

The Confederate Soldiers Monument (popularly known as "The Boys Who Wore Gray") was a memorial to the soldiers from Durham County who fought for the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. The statue was seriously damaged by protestors and removed from public view on August 14, 2017.

Venable Tobacco Company Prizery and Receiving Room is a historic tobacco prizery located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The prizery was built about 1930, and is a three-story, brick building. The trapezoidal shaped, one-story, concrete block receiving room was added in 1952. It is an example of "slow burn" masonry and wood factory construction. The prizery is located adjacent to the Venable Tobacco Company Warehouse, which collectively are the only structures that remain of a larger complex.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Cleveland Street District is a national historic district located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 16 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in a predominantly residential section of Durham. The buildings primarily date between the 1880s and 1910s and include notable examples of Queen Anne and Stick Style / Eastlake movement architecture. Notable contributing buildings include the Holloway-Hutchins House and Howerton-Masser House (c. 1890).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
