Advance (pronounced with the stress on the first syllable) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Davie County, North Carolina, United States. It is seventy-five miles northeast of Charlotte. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,138. It is located along North Carolina Highway 801 just south of Bermuda Run. Advance is part of the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.

Hampton House is a historic home located near Arcadia, Davidson County, North Carolina. It was built about 1879, and is a two-story, three-bay, frame I-house of simple Greek Revival style. The 1+1⁄2-story rear wing is of log construction and dates to the early-19th century. It was attached to the main block at the time of its construction in 1879. Also on the property is a contributing pegged frame granary.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Grimes-Crotts Mill, also known as Eureka Mills, Old Mill, Crotts Mill, is a historic grist mill located near Reedy Creek, Davidson County, North Carolina. It was built between 1870 and 1880, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, frame mill on a foundation of fieldstone and massive timber pilings. It is sheathed in plain weatherboard and has a monitor roof. The mill machinery was removed in 1937.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The Jesse Helms Center, located in Wingate, North Carolina and named for its founder, U.S. Senator Jesse Helms, is a repository of Helms' papers, letters, speeches, transcripts of his televised editorials for WRAL-TV, books of faith, and a replica of his Senate desk and office. There are also campaign materials, such as polling information, walled editorial cartoons, and advertisements.Since 1995, the President of the Jesse Helms Center has been John Dodd. The organization is governed by a board of directors. The Helms Center was established in 1994, after Helms rejected requests that his papers be left to an Ivy League university. He instead deposited the material with his home-county Wingate University, a private institution which he had once attended. In 2001, the center opened as a 3.3 million, two-story brick and glass structure situated next to the Wingate Town Hall.The Helms Center hosts a center-sponsored lecture series with such notable participants as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and the Dalai Lama of Tibet.The center sponsors the annual Helms Foreign Relations School, which consists of two days of classes held near Washington, D.C. Helms and Nathaniel Macon, who is honored with an exhibit at the Helms Center, are the only North Carolina senators ever to chair the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Fulton United Methodist Church is a historic Methodist church located near Advance, Davie County, North Carolina. It was built in 1888, and is a one-story, brick building with vernacular Gothic Revival and Italianate design elements. It features a steeply pitched gable roof, bracket cornices, a large pointed arch window, and engaged five-stage tower.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The 1974 PGA Championship was the 56th PGA Championship, played August 8–11 at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, North Carolina, a suburb southwest of Winston-Salem. Lee Trevino won the first of his two PGA Championships, one stroke ahead of defending champion Jack Nicklaus. It was the fifth of Trevino's six major titles and Nicklaus was the runner-up to Trevino in a major for the fourth and final time. It was the first year since 1969 in which Nicklaus did not win a major championship, but he regained the title the following year. Three-time champion Sam Snead, age 62, finished tied for third for his third consecutive top ten finish in the event. It was the final major in which he was in contention, his next best finish was a tie for 42nd at the PGA Championship in 1979. Gary Player's bid to win three majors in 1974 came up short in the final round; the winner of the Masters and Open Championship finished four strokes back at even par, in seventh place. Trevino used a putter he found in a friend's attic only days before and had only one three-putt, on the 71st hole. Tanglewood is a county-owned facility in Forsyth County.This championship coincided with the resignation of President Nixon, who left office on Friday.

Tanglewood Park is a recreation center and park in Clemmons, Forsyth County, North Carolina, USA. It is located on the Yadkin River between Clemmons and Bermuda Run. It is home to the annual "Tanglewood Festival of Lights," a display of lights in the wintertime celebrating the holidays. Additional attractions include the Tanglewood Park Arboretum and Rose Garden, a public pool, a dog park, horse stables, and Mallard Lake for fishing and paddleboat renting. Tanglewood has two golf courses, the Championship Course (designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.) and the Reynolds Course. The former hosted the PGA Championship in 1974, won by Lee Trevino, with Jack Nicklaus one stroke back.

Yadkin College Historic District is a national historic district located at Yadkin College, Davidson County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings, 4 contributing sites, and 5 contributing structures in the village of Yadkin College. The contributing buildings include the 1856 Yadkin College building, one antebellum house, 11 houses built between about 1870 and 1890, and the Yadkin College Methodist Protestant Church (1886). The sites are the Yadkin College Cemetery, the site of the 1881 Yadkin College building, site of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and site of the post office, blacksmith shop and jail. The structures are traditional wells and corn cribs.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Tanglewood Park Arboretum and Rose Garden is an arboretum and garden located within Tanglewood Park at 4201 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, North Carolina. The park was laid out from 1921 onwards by Mr. and Mrs. William Neal Reynolds, brother of tobacco entrepreneur R. J. Reynolds, and in 1951 willed to the citizens of Forsyth County. It is now maintained by Cooperative Extension Service, Forsyth County Center, and includes an arboretum, rose garden, and various other gardens, with displays as follows: Arboretum - small trees, dwarf conifers. Rose garden - approximately 800 rose bushes, of which some 400 are American Rose Society winners. Other gardens - annuals, butterfly garden, children's garden, cottage garden, daylily, fragrance garden, groundcover, herb, hosta, hydrangea, perennials, rhododendrons, rock garden, viburnum, vines, wildflowers, winter interest garden, and xeriscape.

Bermuda Run is a town in Davie County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the town was 3,120. It was incorporated in 1999 as a fully gated residential community near country clubs and golf courses like the Bermuda Run Country Club, Oak Valley Golf Club, and Tanglewood Park. In 2000, the town annexed into neighboring Hillsdale, picking up a commercial district. The town rests on the western bank of the Yadkin River along U.S. Route 158 and North Carolina Highway 801. Interstate 40 provides express access to Winston-Salem, the town's nearest urban center. In 2012, Kinderton Village was voluntarily annexed by the town of Bermuda Run.

Cornatzer is an unincorporated community in Davie County, North Carolina, United States. It is located at the intersection Cornatzer Road (SR 1606/SR 1616) and Milling Road (SR 1600). The community is named after the Cornatzer family who resided in what was then Advance, NC and sold their farm to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.

Yadkin College was a college founded in 1857 by the Methodist Protestant Church. It was located in rural Davidson County, North Carolina and named for the nearby Yadkin River. High Point University serves as the successor to Yadkin College. The founders hoped the rural setting would prevent the "sinfulness" often displayed by college students. The location proved the college's undoing, however – in 1883 the college became an academy, or prep school and operated in that capacity until sometime in the 1890s when for a few years it achieved junior college status. In 1898 it again became a high school, renamed the Yadkin Collegiate Institute. The rise of public high schools after the turn of the 20th century led to the closing of the Institute in 1924. The unincorporated village of Yadkin College still exists near the ruins of the institution. Its former buildings are included in the Yadkin College Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
