Holum

Holum Church (Norwegian: Holum kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Lindesnes Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Krossen. It is the church for the Holum parish which is part of the Lister og Mandal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1825 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 480 people.

Krossen is a village in Lindesnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the Mandalen valley, on the western shore of the river Mandalselva, about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north of the town of Mandal and about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south of the village of Øyslebø. The village (also known as Holum) was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Holum which existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. Holum Church, built in 1825, is located in Krossen. The 0.48-square-kilometre (120-acre) village has a population (2019) of 620 and a population density of 1,301 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,370/sq mi).

Mandal () is a former municipality in the old Vest-Agder county, Norway. It was located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The municipality existed from 1964 until 1 January 2020 when the municipalities of Mandal, Lindesnes, and Marnardal were merged to form a new, larger municipality of Lindesnes in what is now Agder county. Mandal was the southernmost municipality in all of Norway, with the tiny skerry of Pysen being the southernmost point of land in Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Mandal. The town of Mandal was the second largest town by population in the old Vest-Agder county after the nearby town of Kristiansand and it is also the fourth largest city in all of the Sørlandet/Agder region. Besides the town of Mandal, the municipality also includes the villages of Bykjernen, Skjebstad, Sånum-Lundevik, Skogsfjord-Hesland, Krossen, Harkmark, Skinsnes-Ime, and Tregde-Skjernøy. At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the 223-square-kilometre (86 sq mi) municipality is the 321st largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Mandal is the 77th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 15,600. The municipality's population density is 74.1 inhabitants per square kilometre (192/sq mi) and its population has increased by 9.9% over the last decade. The river Mandalselva is a salmon river that flows through the municipality with its river mouth just outside the town. Mandal has many small, white-painted wooden houses, which is typical of towns at the South Coast of Norway (Sørlandet). The European route E39 highway connecting Kristiansand and Stavanger is the main road through Mandal. There are connecting airplane flights and ferries to Europe from Kristiansand.

Ime is a village in Lindesnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the east side of the river Mandalselva, along the European route E39 highway. Ime is an eastern suburb of the town of Mandal. Ime might be considered to be a "commuter town" with its residents living here, but working in Mandal. There is a school in Ime.

Mandal Church (Norwegian: Mandal kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Lindesnes Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the town of Mandal. It is one of the two churches for the Mandal parish which is part of the Lister og Mandal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1821 using plans drawn up by the architect Jørgen Gerhard Løser. It was designed in an empire/neoclassical style. The church seats about 1,000 people, making it the largest wooden church in Norway. The sanctuary is a large hall supported by colossal columns. A small, cylindrical pulpit is placed above the altarpiece, a rather unusual location compared to most churches in Norway. The church is notable for its distinctive rectangular shape with a simple tower on the roof above the main entrance.

Umoe Mandal AS is a shipbuilding company in the Ulltveit-Moe Group. Their shipyards are based at Mandal in Norway. Founded in 1989 as Kværner Båtservice, later Kværner Mandal, and known as Umoe Mandal since 2000, the company specialises in high-speed naval vessels, mine countermeasure vessels (MCMVs) and fast patrol boats (FPBs). They supply the Royal Norwegian Navy, for whom they are currently in production with the Fast Attack Craft series Skjold. The company is especially known for its expertise in the use of fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) technology in naval applications and undertakes the design of naval and commercial vessels in FRP and other advanced composites structures for military applications, as well as shock design, stealth design, and EMI/EMC measures and weight/strength optimisation. The company also produces a range of special products in its market area, such radar stealth air intakes, carbon fibre composite centrifugal fans and, through its subsidiary Umoe Ryving (established 2003), the design and production of FRP composite blades for the wind turbine industry.

Hald International Center (Norwegian: Hald internasjonale senter) is a vocational school offering courses in cross-cultural understanding and international work. The school is owned by the Strømme Foundation, the Norwegian Missionary Society, and the Norwegian Christian Student and School Association, which each have their own exchange program. The academic program is a mix of theory and practice in which all of the students spend six to seven months of student traineeship in another culture. The school has about 40 Norwegian students and 20 students from abroad. The Norwegian students have their traineeship abroad, and the students from abroad have their traineeship in Norway. Those studying at Hald International Center are eligible for full loans and grants from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund. The school is located at the Hald Hotel just outside Mandal.

Westermoen Hydrofoil was a shipyard located in Mandal, Norway, which has specialized in high speed craft, and pioneered many designs. The yard was established in 1961 by Toralf Westermoen, who had also started Westermoen Båtbyggeri og Mek Verksted. The yard began producing hydrofoil craft under license from Italian Supramar. The first boat, Westfoil, with a top speed of 38 knots, was finished in 1962 and was delivered to the Bahamas. After that, a number of small and large (models PT20 and PT50) hydrofoils were built for passenger traffic in western Norway, in the Oslofjord, Øresund, Bahamas and in Greece. Towards the end of the 1960 they built the world's then-largest hydrofoil, the "Expressen", that could carry 250 passengers. The boat did not achieve the intended design speed of 38 knots, and the contract was annulled. This was the beginning of the end of the hydrofoil epoch in Mandal. After this, development of a new class of high speed vessel, the catamaran, began. The Westamaran type, constructed by commander Harald Henriksen and introduced in 1973, was very successful, and a new era of high speed craft in Norway and elsewhere was begun. Towards the end of the 1980s the yard changed name to Westamarin. Westamarin closed in the end of the 1990s. One of the final ships produced was a single High-speed Sea Service HSS 900 catamaran for Stena Line in 1997. The shipyard went bankrupt shortly afterwards, leading to Stena Line being unable to claim compensation for corrosion later found to the aluminium alloy hull on the vessel (Stena Carisma).

A/S Westermoen Båtbyggeri og Mek Verksted was a shipyard located in Mandal, Norway. Under the leadership of Toralf Westermoen in the 1950s, the yard has produced a long range of high speed boat types, such as: The Tjeld-class patrol boat, from 1957 The Storm-class patrol boat, from 1963 Jan Herman Linge, later famous as designer of many sailboats and other recreational vessel, served as head engineer from 1949 to 1956, and was responsible for the design of the Tjeld class.

Buen kulturhus is a cultural multi-purpose house located in the town of Mandal in the municipality of Lindesnes in Agder, Norway. The building opened in 2012 and includes a library, an art gallery, cinemas, halls adapted for theater, dance, concerts, and other events as well as a culture school. There is also a café serving breakfast and lunch menus and outdoor playground near the building. On the eastern side the roof is covered with turf. The total cost of building Buen kulturhus was 210 million Norwegian kroner and it was designed by the Danish architecture firm 3XN based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Nearby in the river Mandalselva is "Denne rogna klekkes snart", an artwork by Maria Koolen Hellmin. A pedestrian bridge across the river connects the building with the center of Mandal.

Mandal is a town in Lindesnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. Mandal is the fourth largest town in Agder as well as the administrative centre of Lindesnes municipality. It is located at the mouth of the river Mandalselva at the southern end of the Mandalen valley. The 6.63-square-kilometre (1,640-acre) town has a population (2019) of 11,053 and a population density of 1,667 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,320/sq mi). In Norway, Mandal is considered a by which can be translated as either a "town" or "city" in English. The town lies along the European route E39 highway, about 40 kilometres (25 mi) southwest of the town of Kristiansand and about 60 kilometres (37 mi) southeast of the town of Flekkefjord. Mandal has a few suburban villages lying just outside its borders such as Ime immediately to the east and Sånum to the southwest. The village of Krossen lies about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the north, along the Mandalselva river.

Mandal District Court (Norwegian: Mandal tingrett) was a district court in Vest-Agder county, Norway. The court was based in the town of Mandal. The court existed from 1591 until 2004. It had jurisdiction over the central part of the county which included the municipalities of Mandal, Marnardal, Lindesnes, Audnedal, and Åseral. Cases from this court could be appealed to Agder Court of Appeal. The court was a court of first instance. Its judicial duties were mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court included death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Cases from this court were heard by a combination of professional judges and lay judges.
