Rabat (, also UK: , US: ; Arabic: الرباط, romanized: a-Ribāṭ; Berber languages: ⵕⵕⴱⴰⵟ, romanized: ṛṛbaṭ) is the capital city of Morocco and the country's seventh-largest city with an urban population of approximately 580,000 (2014) and a metropolitan population of over 1.2 million. It is also the capital city of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra administrative region. Rabat is located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the river Bou Regreg, opposite Salé, the city's main commuter town. Rabat was founded in the 12th century by the Almohads. The city grew at first but went into an extended period of decline following the collapse of the Almohads and in the 17th century, Rabat became a haven for Barbary pirates. When the French established a protectorate over Morocco in 1912 they made Rabat its administrative center. When Morocco achieved independence in 1955 Rabat became its capital. Rabat, Temara, and Salé form a conurbation of over 1.8 million people. Silt-related problems have diminished Rabat's role as a port; however, Rabat and Salé still maintain important textile, food processing and construction industries. In addition, tourism and the presence of all foreign embassies in Morocco make Rabat one of the most important cities in the country. The Moroccan capital was ranked at second place by CNN in its "Top Travel Destinations of 2013". It is one of four Imperial cities of Morocco, and the medina of Rabat is listed as a World Heritage Site. Rabat is accessible by train through the ONCF system and by plane through the nearby Rabat–Salé Airport.

The Moulay Slimane Mosque (Arabic: مسجد مولاي سليمان) is a mosque in the medina of Rabat, Morocco. It was built in 1812 by the 'Alawi sultan Moulay Slimane, after whom it is named. It is the second-largest mosque of the medina north of the Andalusian wall (along what is now Avenue Hassan II), located at the intersection of Souika Street and Sidi Fateh Street, close to the Bab Bouiba gate. The mosque occupies a surface area of 1000 square metres and its minaret is 32 meters high. It has a traditional layout for a Moroccan mosque, with a courtyard (sahn) and an interior hypostyle prayer hall.

The Bank Al-Maghrib (Arabic: بنك المغرب, lit. 'Bank of Morocco') is the central bank of the Kingdom of Morocco. It was founded in 1959 as the successor to the State Bank of Morocco (est. 1907). In 2008 Bank Al-Maghrib held reserves of foreign currency with an estimated worth of US$36 billion. In addition to currency management, the Bank Al-Maghrib also supervises a number of private banks supplying commercial banking services. The bank is headquartered on Avenue Mohammed V in Rabat; it has a branch in Casablanca and agencies in 18 other cities in Morocco.

The House of Representatives (Arabic: مجلس النواب [maʒ.li.s‿an.nu.waːb]; Berber languages: ⴰⵙⵇⵇⵉⵎ ⵏ ⵉⵎⵓⵔⴰ, romanized: Asqqim n Imura; French: Chambre des représentants) is one of the two chambers—the other of which is the House of Councillors—of the Moroccan Parliament. The House of Representatives has 395 members elected for five-year terms, 305 of whom are elected in multi-seat constituencies, and 90 of whom are elected in two national lists dedicated to promote gender equality and national youth.

The House of Councillors (Arabic: مجلس المستشارين [maʒlis al-mustaʃaːriːn]; Berber languages: ⴰⵙⵇⵇⵉⵎ ⵏ ⵉⵏⵙⴼⴰⵡⵏ, romanized: Asqqim n Insfawn; French: Chambre des conseillers) is the upper house of the Parliament of Morocco and has 120 members, elected for a six-year term. 72 members are elected at the Kingdom's regional level, who represent the subnational administrative areas (collectivitiés territoriales); 20 members are elected in each region by a single electoral college made up of all those in the relevant region that have been elected to the following professional associations: the agriculture associations, the commerce, industry and services associations, the arts and crafts associations and the marine fisheries associations; 8 members are elected in each region by an electoral college made up of those elected from the most representative employers' professional organizations; 20 members elected nationally by an electoral college made up of employees.The 2011 Constitution of Morocco retained this second chamber, but reduced its term of office from 9 to 6 years and its size to 120 seats.

Mawazine (Arabic: موازين, romanized: mawāzīn, meaning "rhythms of the world") is a Moroccan International music festival held annually in Rabat, Morocco, featuring many international and local music artists. The festival is presided over by Mounir Majidi, the personal secretary of the Moroccan King Mohammed VI and founder and president of Maroc Culture, the cultural foundation that organizes Mawazine and other events.The 2013 festival was attended by an estimated 2.5 million people, making Mawazine the largest festival in the world after Donauinselfest in Vienna. With 90 acts on 7 stages it has the highest ratio of attendees per stage in the world.Mawazine is one of several events which are intended to promote an image of Morocco as a tolerant nation, and a post on the event's website declares that the goal of the festival is to promote Rabat as a city open to the world. The Great Mosque (Arabic: الجامع الكبير, romanized: al-jama' al-kbir) of the medina of Rabat in Morocco, also known as the el-Kharrazin Mosque (Arabic: خرازين, romanized: jama' al-kharrazin, lit. 'mosque of the cobblers'), is the largest Friday mosque within the historic Andalusian medina of Rabat (i.e. the district north of the Andalusian walls, along Avenue Hassan II today) in Morocco. The mosque is located at the intersection of the streets of Souk Sebbat and Rue Bab Chellah ("Street of the Chellah Gate").

The Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art , abbreviated MMVI, (Arabic: متحف محمد السادس للفن الحديث والمعاصر) is a contemporary and modern art museum in Rabat, Morocco which opened in 2014. It is one of fourteen museums of the National Foundation of Museums of Morocco. The museum curates modern and contemporary Moroccan and international art. The MMVI is the first large scale museum built in Morocco since independence from France in 1956. It was the first Moroccan public museum to meet International Museography Standards. The museum houses the works of 200 Moroccan artists, including Hassan Hajjaj and Ahmed Yacoubi.

St. Peter's Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Rabat) is a Roman Catholic church located at Golan Square (Place du Golan) in downtown Rabat, Morocco. It was erected in the early 20th century in the Art Deco style. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Peter, and is the ecclesiastical seat of the Archdiocese of Rabat.Construction of the cathedral began in 1919, and its chief architect was Adrien Laforgue. The cathedral was inaugurated by Resident-General Hubert Lyautey in 1921. The two towers of the cathedral were added in the 1930s.The cathedral is operational and Mass is celebrated daily.
