Broadbottom Viaduct

Broadbottom Hall is a Grade II* listed country house on Bostock Road in Broadbottom, a village within Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Cheshire, the hall dates from 1680, was extended in the 19th century, and is noted for its architectural and historic significance.

Broadbottom railway station serves the village of Broadbottom in Greater Manchester, England. It is on the Manchester-Glossop Line, 10 miles (16 km) east of Manchester Piccadilly. It was opened by the Sheffield, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Manchester Railway in 1842. It was renamed Mottram in 1845, but has since reverted to its original name. East of the station is Broadbottom Viaduct which carries the line 120 feet (37 m) over the River Etherow. The official length of the viaduct is 422 feet 6 inches (128.78 m).

Charlesworth is a village and civil parish near Glossop, Derbyshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 2,449. It is 2 miles (3.2 km) south-west of Glossop town centre and close to the borders of Greater Manchester with the nearby village of Broadbottom in Tameside. The parish church of St John the Baptist was built in 1848–49. The Congregational Chapel was rebuilt from an earlier chapel in 1797. The Baptist Chapel was built in 1835. Broadbottom Bridge, one end of which is in Cheshire, was built in 1683. Charlesworth holds an annual carnival on the second Saturday in July on its recreation ground on Marple Road, which includes fell races and other events. The village is at the foot of the "Monks' Road", which was used by the monks of Basingwerk Abbey in North Wales. At the top of the road is the Abbot's Chair, the base of a monastic cross also known as the Charlesworth Cross.

At the 2011 census, the population for the ward of Longdendale, which includes Mottram and the surrounding area, was 9,950.Historically part of Cheshire, it lies in the valley of Longdendale, on the border with Derbyshire and the Peak District near Broadbottom and Hattersley. Mottram in Longdendale Parish was one of the eight ancient parishes of the Macclesfield Hundred of Cheshire. The larger Mottram parish was incorporated into Longdendale in 1936, remaining part of Cheshire, then incorporated into Tameside by the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974.

Chisworth is a hamlet near Glossop, Derbyshire, England. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) south-west of Glossop town centre, on the south side of the Etherow valley. The parish of Chisworth was formed in 1896, out of the parish of Chisworth and Ludworth. In 1901, it had a population of 409. From 1896 until 1934 it was in the Glossop Rural District, when it was placed with Ludworth into the Chapel en le Frith Rural District. The village possesses a Methodist chapel. The A626 road passes through the hamlet. In June 1930, a local cloudburst caused flooding that killed one man and destroyed equipment at the mills, one of which never reopened.

Longendale Urban District (also known as Longdendale Urban District) was, from 1936 to 1974, a local government district in the administrative county of Cheshire, England. It encompassed parts of Broadbottom, Hattersley, Hollingworth, Matley and Mottram in Longdendale, all forming part of the non-statutory Longdendale Valley. The district covered an area close to Cheshire's northeastern boundary with Derbyshire and was bound (from north to west) by the Municipal Borough of Mossley, Municipal Borough of Stalybridge, Municipal Borough of Dukinfield and Municipal Borough of Hyde. Tintwistle Rural District, from which Longendale exchanged territory in 1936, lay to the east. The Urban District was created by the Local Government Act 1894. In 1974, Longendale Urban District was abolished by the Local Government Act 1972 and its former area was transferred to Greater Manchester to form part of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside.

Centred on St Michael and All Angels Church it included the townships of Godley, Hattersley, Hollingworth, Matley, Newton, Stayley, Tintwistle and Mottram itself. Under the Poor Law Amendment Act 1886 the townships became civil parishes in their own right.
