Broadbottom railway station

Broadbottom is a village in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Cheshire, it stands on the River Etherow which forms the border with Derbyshire.

Broadbottom Viaduct (also known as Etherow or Mottram Viaduct) is a railway viaduct that spans the River Etherow between Derbyshire and Greater Manchester in England. Originally of wooden construction supported by stone piers, the timber was replaced first with wrought iron box girders, less than 20 years after the viaduct's opening, later followed by steel trusses and more supporting piers.

Hattersley is an area of Tameside, Greater Manchester, England; it is located 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Glossop and 10 miles (16 km) east of Manchester city centre, at the eastern terminus of the M67. Historically part of Tintwistle Rural District in Cheshire until 1974, it is the site of an overspill estate built by Manchester City Council in the 1960s. Hattersley is an area receiving major regeneration, which includes building new housing and additional retail stores.

Chisworth is a hamlet near Glossop, Derbyshire, England. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) south-west of Glossop town centre, on the south side of the Etherow valley. The parish of Chisworth was formed in 1896, out of the parish of Chisworth and Ludworth. In 1901, it had a population of 409. From 1896 until 1934 it was in the Glossop Rural District, when it was placed with Ludworth into the Chapel en le Frith Rural District. The village possesses a Methodist chapel. The A626 road passes through the hamlet. In June 1930, a local cloudburst caused flooding that killed one man and destroyed equipment at the mills, one of which never reopened.

It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Mottram.

Longendale Urban District (also known as Longdendale Urban District) was, from 1936 to 1974, a local government district in the administrative county of Cheshire, England. It encompassed parts of Broadbottom, Hattersley, Hollingworth, Matley and Mottram in Longdendale, all forming part of the non-statutory Longdendale Valley. The district covered an area close to Cheshire's northeastern boundary with Derbyshire and was bound (from north to west) by the Municipal Borough of Mossley, Municipal Borough of Stalybridge, Municipal Borough of Dukinfield and Municipal Borough of Hyde. Tintwistle Rural District, from which Longendale exchanged territory in 1936, lay to the east. The Urban District was created by the Local Government Act 1894. In 1974, Longendale Urban District was abolished by the Local Government Act 1972 and its former area was transferred to Greater Manchester to form part of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside.

Mottram in Longdendale is a village in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. At the 2011 census, the population for the ward of Longdendale, which includes Mottram and the surrounding area, was 9,950.Historically part of Cheshire, it lies in the valley of Longdendale, on the border with Derbyshire and the Peak District near Broadbottom and Hattersley. Mottram in Longdendale Parish was one of the eight ancient parishes of the Macclesfield Hundred of Cheshire. The larger Mottram parish was incorporated into Longdendale in 1936, remaining part of Cheshire, then incorporated into Tameside by the Local Government Act 1972 in 1974.

Hattersley railway station serves the Hattersley housing estate in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. The station is 9 miles (14 km) east of Manchester Piccadilly on the Manchester-Glossop Line. The station was opened by British Rail in 1978 as an island platform with a covered footbridge leading to the station's exit. It once used to contain a glass waiting room/area, but this was later subjected to an arson attack. Hattersley has been serviced by 3 car trains through its life, but has an extended platform that can comfortably fit 6 car trains. It has car parking spaces and once used to incorporate a bus interchange where the number 216 bus service would run to the station before continuing through Hattersley to the terminus or going to Hyde and Manchester. The station and the line around 1 km to the east of it is currently within a substantial cutting, a new Hattersley Viaduct replacing two tunnels some 400m in length which were likely required to be removed as part of the post-war electrification works.

Mottram Old Hall is a Grade-II-listed two-storey country house standing in a 6-hectare (15-acre) triangular park between Coach Lane and Old Hall Lane in Mottram in Longdendale, Greater Manchester, England. The house was built in about 1825 in ashlar with a slate roof. Previously known as Ivydene, it incorporates a large rear wing built in 1727. The tree-lined drive, now known as Hall Drive, is residential and consists of large detached houses built in the 1960s leading to the main entrance of the Hall; the original mausoleum attached to the estate is still present on one side of Hall Drive. Once owned by the Hollingworth family, it was renovated by the Hadfield family. It is still privately owned and not open to the public.

Charlesworth is a village and civil parish near Glossop, Derbyshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 2,449. It is 2 miles (3.2 km) south-west of Glossop town centre and close to the borders of Greater Manchester with the nearby village of Broadbottom in Tameside. The parish church of St John the Baptist was built in 1848–49. The Congregational Chapel was rebuilt from an earlier chapel in 1797. The Baptist Chapel was built in 1835. Broadbottom Bridge, one end of which is in Cheshire, was built in 1683. Charlesworth holds an annual carnival on the second Saturday in July on its recreation ground on Marple Road, which includes fell races and other events. The village is at the foot of the "Monks' Road", which was used by the monks of Basingwerk Abbey in North Wales. At the top of the road is the Abbot's Chair, the base of a monastic cross also known as the Charlesworth Cross.
