South Derbyshire

Hartshorne is a village and civil parish in the English county of Derbyshire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 3,888. It is north of the town of Swadlincote. The name is pronounced "Harts-horn"; the sh is not a digraph, as this is a compound.

South Derbyshire is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Heather Wheeler, a Conservative.

Repton was a rural district in Derbyshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 from the part of the Burton upon Trent rural sanitary district which was in Derbyshire (the Staffordshire part becoming Tutbury Rural District). In 1934, under a County Review Order, it was expanded somewhat by taking in the disbanded Hartshorne and Seals Rural District. It continued in existence until 1974, when it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, going on to form part of the new South Derbyshire district.

Granville Academy, formerly Granville Sports College is a comprehensive school on Burton Road (A511) in Woodville, Derbyshire maintained by the Derbyshire County Council. It is part of the De Ferrers Trust.

Bretby Hall is a country house at Bretby, Derbyshire, England, north of Swadlincote and east of Burton upon Trent on the border with Staffordshire. It is a Grade II listed building. The name Bretby means "dwelling place of Britons".

Foremark Reservoir (OS grid reference SK3324) is a reservoir in South Derbyshire owned by Severn Trent which is also a 230-acre (0.93 km2) nature reserve open to the public for walking, fishing, bird watching and horse riding. Severn Trent are working together with the National Trust at Foremark. It is also the base for Burton Sailing Club. The reservoirs source of water is from the River Dove at Egginton, and it was constructed in the 1970s. The reservoir is accessible from the road between Milton and Ticknall. It is north of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and close to Ingleby, Swadlincote and Willington. It is part of the National Forest. Admission is free, but there is a charge for the use of the car park.

Woodville is a suburban village and civil parish that crosses two districts - South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire district of Leicestershire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Swadlincote. At the 2011 Census, the parish had a population of 5,161, an increase from 3,420 at the 2001 Census. The centre of the village, known as the Tollgate, is a busy traffic island on the A511. Woodville forms part of the border with Leicestershire.

Woodville railway station is a former railway station on the Swadlincote Loop Line which served the village of Woodville, Derbyshire, England.

St Stephen's Church, Woodville is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England: 361  in Woodville, Derbyshire.

Bretby is a village and civil parish in the south of Derbyshire, England, north of Swadlincote and east of Burton upon Trent, on the border between Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 893. The name means "dwelling place of Britons". On the A511 road (formerly A50), there is a secondary settlement, Stanhope Bretby, which was the site of Bretby Colliery.

The Leicestershire and South Derbyshire Coalfield in the English Midlands is one of the smaller British coalfields. The two areas are sometimes separately referred to as the South Derbyshire Coalfield and the Leicestershire Coalfield. All of the worked coal seams are contained within the Lower and Middle Coal Measures which are of Upper Carboniferous age.

Swadlincote railway station was a station that served the town of Swadlincote, South Derbyshire. The station was located off Midland Road near the present day fire station which now occupies the station site. There is also a new build housing estate nearby called "Old Railway Mews".
