Bretby Hall

South Derbyshire is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Heather Wheeler, a Conservative.

Bretby is a village and civil parish in the south of Derbyshire, England, north of Swadlincote and east of Burton upon Trent, on the border between Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 893. The name means "dwelling place of Britons". On the A511 road (formerly A50), there is a secondary settlement, Stanhope Bretby, which was the site of Bretby Colliery.

The Bees, Wasps and Ants Recording Society (BWARS) is a British society dedicated to recording bees, wasps and ants. The recording of these insects is most important to monitor the health of an ecosystem, and in the past, studies of British ants were carried out by such notable myrmecologists as Horace Donisthorpe and Sir John Lubbock.

Repton was a rural district in Derbyshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 from the part of the Burton upon Trent rural sanitary district which was in Derbyshire (the Staffordshire part becoming Tutbury Rural District). In 1934, under a County Review Order, it was expanded somewhat by taking in the disbanded Hartshorne and Seals Rural District. It continued in existence until 1974, when it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, going on to form part of the new South Derbyshire district.

The Pingle Academy is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located at Coronation Street in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, England. The name comes from the former Pingle Farm; Pingle being a Midlands term for a small field or allotment.

Swadlincote railway station was a station that served the town of Swadlincote, South Derbyshire. The station was located off Midland Road near the present day fire station which now occupies the station site. There is also a new build housing estate nearby called "Old Railway Mews".

William Allitt Academy (formerly William Allitt School), is a co-educational secondary school located in the village of Newhall, Swadlincote in South Derbyshire, England.The school was founded in 1895 as the Newhall Central Board School, when the Newhall Oversetts and Newhall High Street Board Schools were merged. In 1914, the school was split into separate boys' and girls' schools, but these recombined in 1939. Due to subsidence from mining, it relocated to a new site in 1959, and was renamed after local councillor William Allitt. In 1966, it became a comprehensive school.Previously a community school administered by Derbyshire County Council, in September 2022 William Allitt School converted to academy status and was renamed The William Allitt Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Falcon Education Academies Trust.The school's headteacher is Jackie Cooper. Deputy Headteacher Mike McCandless was acting head teacher from September 2013 to April 2014 and previous to this the head teacher was David Clarke. Clarke took over after John Crossley retired in 2010 having been head at the school since 1996.

South Derbyshire is a local government district in Derbyshire, England. The district covers the towns of Melbourne and Swadlincote as well as numerous villages and hamlets such as Hilton, Hatton, Etwall, Aston-on-Trent, Repton, Weston-on-Trent and Willington. About a third of the National Forest lies within the district. The neighbouring districts are Derbyshire Dales, Amber Valley, Derby, Erewash, North West Leicestershire, Lichfield and East Staffordshire.

Swadlincote is a historic mining town in the district of South Derbyshire, in the ceremonial county of Derbyshire, England. It lies within The National Forest area. It borders the counties of Leicestershire and Staffordshire, 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Burton upon Trent and north-west of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Derby. It covers the suburban areas of Church Gresley, Goseley, Midway, Newhall, Oversetts and Woodville. It had a population of 32,219.

Swadlincote Town Hall is a municipal building in The Delph in Swadlincote, a town in Derbyshire in England. The building, which serves a community events venue, is a Grade II listed building.

Newhall is a village in the South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England. The village of Stanton and town of Swadlincote are nearby.

The Leicestershire and South Derbyshire Coalfield in the English Midlands is one of the smaller British coalfields. The two areas are sometimes separately referred to as the South Derbyshire Coalfield and the Leicestershire Coalfield. All of the worked coal seams are contained within the Lower and Middle Coal Measures which are of Upper Carboniferous age.
