Alexander House (Spartanburg, South Carolina)

Episcopal Church of the Advent is a historic Episcopal church at 141 Advent Street in Spartanburg, South Carolina.The Gothic Revival building was constructed in 1851 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.The Church of Advent is significant both as the home of the first Episcopal congregation organized in Spartanburg County, and as an excellent example of a Gothic Revival sanctuary and church complex designed before the Civil War, with significant alterations and additions in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The sanctuary was designed in 1851 by the Reverend John DeWitt McCollough, rector at the Church of Advent 1850-1857 and 1859–1875, with later major alterations and additions designed by Silas McBee (1853-1954) and A. H. Ellwood and Sons in 1897. McCollough is also known to have designed a number of other churches in South Carolina. Major H.J. Dean's quarry supplied the granite for the church, and slaves or free blacks, including several skilled carpenters, performed much of the labor. The sanctuary was finally completed in early 1864; a bell tower was added in 1870. The sanctuary was enlarged in 1897 to its current cruciform plan. Pendleton Hall, built 1912-13 as an addition to the north side of the sanctuary and designed by A. H. Ellwood and Sons, served as the parish hall for many years. The Church of the Advent also sponsors Boy Scout Troop No.1, founded in 1914 by Dr. Pendleton as the first Boy Scout troop organized in South Carolina. The Boy Scout hut on the church grounds was built in 1927. The church cemetery surrounds the sanctuary. Many of its monuments are of notable artistic merit.

Frank Evans High School, also known as Evans Junior High School, is a historic high school building located at Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was built in 1922, with additions completed in 1925 and 1928. It is a three-story, Collegiate Gothic style, masonry school building. The school became a junior high school in 1959 when the new Spartanburg High School was built.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.In summer 2009, Spartanburg Community College announced plans for a downtown Spartanburg presence, utilizing the historic Evans Building. Their goal was to provide a campus that would offer convenient access for under-served city residents. Classes began in Fall 2013 at the renovated building, referred to by SCC as the Evans Academic Center.The building renovation received the 2015 Adaptive Reuse Citation Award from the American Institute of Architects’ South Carolina Chapter. The building also earned a LEED Silver certification.

It is part of a 10-county region of northwestern South Carolina known as "The Upstate", and is located 98 miles (158 km) northwest of Columbia, 80 miles (130 km) west of Charlotte, North Carolina, and about 190 miles (310 km) northeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Spartanburg is the home of Wofford College, Converse University, Spartanburg Community College, and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and the area is home to USC Upstate, Sherman College of Chiropractic and Spartanburg Methodist College. It is also the site of headquarters for Denny's.

Palmetto Theater was a historic movie theater located at Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was built in 1940–1941, and was a one-story, rectangular plan brick building. It featured a large marquee and a separate shop storefront decorated in blue Carrera-glass panels. The interior featured double balconies, Terrazzo flooring, large Art Deco light fixtures, decorative wall painting, and a plaster Art Deco screen surround.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. It has since been demolished.

Daniel Morgan Monument is a historic monument located at Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The statue was designed by John Quincy Adams Ward and the monument erected in 1881. The monument commemorates the centennial of the victory at the Revolutionary War Battle of Cowpens and its hero, General Daniel Morgan. The statue stands on a columnar granite shaft on an octagonal base designed by noted Charleston architect, Edward Brickell White. In 1960, the monument was moved about 100 yards across Morgan Square to its east end. However, in 2005 as part of a larger project involving the redesign and reconstruction of Morgan Square, the monument was returned to its original position at the corner of West Main and Magnolia Streets and its original orientation, facing Cowpens National Battlefield.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Schuyler Apartments are a historic apartment building at 275 South Church Street in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The 13-story concrete, glass, and steel structure was designed by David W. Cecil (1921-2011) and built in 1950. The International style structure, with clean and simple lines, is a fine representative example of post-World War II construction in Spartanburg. Cecil also is known locally for the design of Spartanburg City Hall and the main branch of the Spartanburg Post Office, all three of which were for years considered eyesores. The Schuyler building has found itself placed on the National Historical Register recently in time for the grand reopening of the building. The building formerly housed subsidized families: low-income and elderly residents. Of late it has been refurbished as 'upscale' studios and one bedroom units. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Montgomery Building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is an iconic building located on Church Street in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was built in 1924, and is a ten-story, nine-bay-wide, steel frame skyscraper faced in precast concrete. It originally housed the offices of textile companies, cotton brokers, and factories. The building also contained a theatre/auditorium space, a radio and television station. The Montgomery Building was the tallest building in Spartanburg until the 1950s. In 2016, a developer announced a $29 million plan to renovate the building for mixed-use to include apartments, offices and retail. Restoration began in Spring 2017 and was completed in December 2018.

Walter Scott Montgomery House is a historic home located at Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was designed by architect George Franklin Barber and built in 1909. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, frame, yellow brick-veneer residence in the Colonial Revival style. building is of frame construction with a yellow brick veneer and a red tile roof. It features a distinctive portico and leaded glass windows. Also on the property is a one-story, reinforced concrete auto garage (c. 1923).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Central United Methodist Church is a historic church at 233 N. Church Street in Spartanburg, South Carolina.It was built in the 1880s, and remodeled in 1896 by architect George F. Barber. It was added to the National Register in 2003.

Cleveland Law Range is a historic office building located at Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. It was built in 1898–1899, and is a three-story, Richardsonian Romanesque style brick building. It features five arched bays on the ground floor, with repeated bay arrangements on the second and third floors. Three South Carolina governors maintained offices in the Cleveland Law Range: James F. Byrnes, John Gary Evans, and Donald S. Russell.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Russell C. King Field is a baseball venue located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States. It is home to the Wofford Terriers college baseball team of the Division I Southern Conference. It has a capacity of 2,500 spectators.Of the 2,500 spectator capacity, 833 is made up of permanent, chair-backed seating. The remainder consists of berm-style seating down either foul line. The field also features stadium lighting.
