John C. Calhoun State Office Building

Cornell Arms Apartments, built in 1949, is a high-rise in Columbia, South Carolina. It was designed by architecture firm Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle, and Wolff. It was often advertised as "the tallest building between Richmond and Miami". Cornell Arms Apartments was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. It was listed for its significance in the architectural response to the post-World War II housing shortage and a need for higher-density residences. The building express Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle, and Wolff's early modern architecture philosophy and earned them a lucrative relationship with the United States government. It stands at 210 ft (64 m) and has 18 floors. Construction began in 1948 and was completed in 1949. The building was built with a steel frame structure.

Town Theatre is a historic community theatre located at Columbia, South Carolina. It was built in 1924, and is a rectangular brick building with a two-story glazed central arch with Art Deco influences. A brick annex was added to the rear of the building in the 1950s. It houses one of the first community theatres in the United States.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, or SCIAA, was founded in 1963 as a research institute at University of South Carolina and as a State cultural resource management agency. In the latter capacity, SCIAA is part of the Executive Department of the South Carolina State Government and serves as the main State agency concerned with the State's Archaeology (both prehistoric and historic), and its discovery, study, interpretation, publication, and official conservation at its curatorial facilities. As a University research institute, SCIAA both initiates and conducts a wide spectrum of field investigations and collections research throughout South Carolina. SCIAA participates in numerous university projects, and is a significant part of the University's infrastructure, and the University's publication series.

The Columbia Film Society is a nonprofit organization founded in January 1979 in Columbia, South Carolina. It is a community arts organization whose aim is to stimulate discussion and enhance appreciation of media arts in the community by presenting a wide variety of alternative films and sponsoring media arts events and educational programs. The Society is mostly known for operating the Nickelodeon Theatre, a 77-seat storefront venue located in the shadow of the state capitol building. Using this current home, the Society showcases films and videos found outside the commercial cinemas in the area. In June, 2005 the Society (along with the help of private citizens, corporate sponsors and other civic organizations including the City of Columbia) purchased the historic former Fox Theater, a 1936 Art Deco cinema, to use as a future home for the Society. This facility will offer two theaters for programs.

Trinity Episcopal Church, now known as Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, is the first Episcopal and the oldest surviving sanctuary in Columbia, South Carolina. It is a Gothic Revival church that is modeled after York Minster in York, England. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places on February 24, 1971.Trinity Church is on east side of Sumter Street between Gervais and Senate Streets. It is directly east of the South Carolina State House.

The Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina (EDUSC) is a diocese in the Episcopal Church. Originally part of the Diocese of South Carolina, it became independent on October 10–11, 1922 following nearly two years of planning. The see city is Columbia. Its cathedral is Trinity Cathedral. The diocese comprises approximately 60 congregations in the Upstate (northwestern) and Midlands regions of the U.S. state of South Carolina. There are five convocations in the diocese: Midlands (Columbia area), Catawba (Rock Hill area), Foothills (Greenville area), Gravatt (Aiken area), and Piedmont (Spartanburg areas).The bishop is Daniel P. Richards. He was elected bishop on September 25 2021 and was consecrated at Trinity Cathedral as bishop on February 26 2022.Among the Diocese's many institutions, the Bishop Gravatt Center began service in 1949 as a retreat and summer camp site. Now a non-profit corporation with its own Board of Trustees, the Center remains a vital part of the Diocese through its summer camp Christian formation program and numerous diocesan and parish activities such as Happening, Cursillo, youth retreats, vestry retreats, parish family weekends, etc.

The Old Campus District, University of South Carolina, is a historic district centered on The Horseshoe on the main campus of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. On June 5, 1970, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. On April 19, 1996 MTV Unplugged filmed Hootie & the Blowfish's concert on The Horseshoe before the release of their second album Fairweather Johnson.

The South Carolina House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Carolina General Assembly. It consists of 124 representatives elected to two-year terms at the same time as U.S. congressional elections. Unlike many legislatures, seating on the floor is not divided by party, but is arranged by county delegation – a legacy of the original apportionment of the chamber. Until 1964, each of South Carolina's counties was a legislative district, with the number of representatives determined by the county's population. It meets from the second week of January into May.

Wade Hampton State Office Building is a historic state office building located at Columbia, South Carolina. It was built between 1938 and 1940, and is a large six-story building in a restrained Neoclassical style, with Art Deco inspired details. It held the offices of the Attorney General and the Department of Education, who embodied the state's policy of racial segregation. The building was also designed with segregated spaces for African American patrons conducting business there.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The South Carolina State House is the building housing the government of the U.S. state of South Carolina, which includes the South Carolina General Assembly and the offices of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. Located in the capital city of Columbia near the corner of Gervais and Assembly Streets, the building also housed the Supreme Court until 1971.The State House is in the Classical Revival style; it is approximately 180 feet (55 m) tall, 300 feet (91 m) long, 100 feet (30 m) wide. It weighs more than 70,000 short tons (64,000 t) and has 130,673 square feet (12,140 m2) of space.

McCord House, also known as the McCord-Oxner House, is a historic home located at Columbia, South Carolina. It was built in 1849, and is a 1½-story clapboard Greek Revival style cottage, with additions made in the 1850s. It sits on a stuccoed raised basement. The front facade features a one-story portico supported by four stuccoed piers. It was built by David James McCord (1797–1855), a planter, lawyer, and editor, and his wife Louisa Susannah Cheves McCord, a noted author of political and economic essays, poetry, and drama. In 1865, the McCord House became the headquarters of General Oliver O. Howard, who was General William Tecumseh Sherman’s second in command. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The house is currently owned by Henry McMaster, the incumbent Governor of South Carolina, who purchased the property in May 2016.
