The IJmuider Zee- en Havenmuseum is a museum located at the start of the Vissershaven in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, dedicated to promoting interest and conserving the fishing and shipping cultural heritage of IJmuiden and the North Sea Canal.

The hoge vuurtoren van IJmuiden ("high lighthouse of IJmuiden") is a round, cast-iron lighthouse in IJmuiden, Netherlands, designed by Quirinus Harder. It was built in 1878 by D.A. Schretlen & Co, a company in Leiden. Together with the Lage vuurtoren van IJmuiden, the 35-meter high lighthouse forms a pair of leading lights marking the IJgeul (the entrance on the North Sea to the North Sea Canal). The lighthouse has 159 steps; it is unmanned and not open for visitors.

Koninklijke Hoogovens known as Koninklijke Nederlandse Hoogovens en Staalfabrieken (KNHS) until 1996 or informally Hoogovens. was a Dutch steel producer founded in 1918. Since 2010, the plant is named Tata Steel IJmuiden. The IJmuiden steelworks based in IJmuiden, Netherlands was built between 1920 and 1940, first producing iron, later steel, with hot and cold rolling producing flat products. In the 1960s the company diversified into aluminium production. The company briefly merged its IJmuiden steel plant with German steel company Hoesch from 1972 forming the joint venture Estel but separated in 1982. In 1999, the company merged with the larger British Steel plc to create the Corus Group steel company. The aluminium production assets were sold off during the Corus period. In 2007, Corus Group was purchased by India-based Tata Steel and was renamed Tata Steel Europe in 2010. In 2021, the company was split into a British (Tata Steel UK, now British Steel) and a Dutch (Tata Steel Netherlands) branch, these fall directly under the Indian parent company Tata Steel and Tata Steel Europe ceased to exist.

The IJmuiden sea lock (Dutch: zeesluis IJmuiden) serving Port of Amsterdam via the North Sea Canal is the largest lock in the world when considering dimensions. The lock, situated in IJmuiden in the municipality of Velsen, was opened on 26 January 2022 in the presence of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. The locks of IJmuiden have a history dating back to 1876, when the largest lock of that era was opened.

In 1966 the lighthouse was moved slightly. Together with the Hoge vuurtoren van IJmuiden, the 24-metre high lighthouse forms a pair of leading lights marking the IJgeul (the entrance on the North Sea to the North Sea Canal). The lighthouse now has five storeys and 88 steps; it is unmanned and not open for visitors. Since 1981 it is a Rijksmonument.

Velsen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈvɛlzə(n)] (listen)) is a municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is located on both sides of the North Sea Canal. On the north side of the North Sea Canal there is a major steel plant, Tata Steel IJmuiden, formerly known as Koninklijke Hoogovens (the town of IJmuiden is actually located south of the canal). The headquarters of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij is located in IJmuiden. The Kennemerstrand beach on the south side of the canal is at the end of the Kennemerboulevard, which runs south of the Seaport Marina. To the south is the beach of Bloemendaal aan Zee. In between is a nude beach.

IJmuiden (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɛi̯ˈmœy̯də(n)]) is a port city in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is the main town in the municipality of Velsen which lies mainly to the south-east. Including its large sea locks, it straddles the mouth of the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam. To the south it abuts a large reserve of plant-covered dunes, the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. The city is on the south bank; the north bank is otherwise a steel plant and Velsen-Noord. It is 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) north northwest of Haarlem which is 18 kilometres (11 mi) due west of Amsterdam. The port is a deepwater port suited to fully laden Panamax ships, and fourth port of the Netherlands. The internal capitalization within IJmuiden is as IJ is a digraph in modern Dutch so in some typefaces recognised as a ligature which places it in one typed or handwritten space.

Mekog (Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Kooksovengas, English coke oven gas exploitation company) was a chemical company founded 1928, that manufactured fertilizer using hydrogen from coke oven gas as a feedstock. The company's facilities were located on the site of the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Hoogovens en Staalfabrieken steelworks near IJmuiden in the Netherlands.

The Hoogovensmuseum is a museum located on the northern side of the North Sea Canal sluice gates at IJmuiden, in the former "buizengieterij" (pipe making factory) of Koninklijke Hoogovens, now Tata Steel IJmuiden, on the Buizenweg in Velsen-Noord. It overlooks the binnenkanaal where water was pumped up to use for cooling. The former cooling bath house has been converted to an exhibition space.

Dance Valley ("The Woodstock of Dance") is an annual dance music festival organised by United Dance Company (UDC) in the summer in Spaarnwoude, Netherlands. The first edition was in 1995 when 8,000 people attended (and in 2001 90,000 visitors). Dance Valley grew rapidly, both in duration and number of visitors.

The North Sea Canal (Dutch: Noordzeekanaal) is a Dutch ship canal from Amsterdam to the North Sea at IJmuiden, constructed between 1865 and 1876 to enable seafaring vessels to reach the port of Amsterdam. This man-made channel terminates at Amsterdam in the closed-off IJ Bay, which in turn connects to the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. The drainage of the canal to the North Sea is done through the IJmuiden sea lock, augmented by the largest pumping station in Europe. This system is vital to the groundwater management of the Western Netherlands.

Duin en Kruidberg is a stately home in Santpoort, near Haarlem, the Netherlands. Kruidberg started as a summer house for rich merchants from Amsterdam, then it became a hunting lodge of the prince of Orange, the future king-stadholder, William III (1650–1702). The plans for the Dutch invasion of England were drawn up here, which culminated in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The estate merged with neighbouring Duin en Berg into Duin en Kruidberg in the 19th century. The current house was constructed by Jacob Theodoor Cremer around 1900 in Dutch Renaissance Revival architecture. The Cremers hosted royalty at the house and held hunting events as well. It was and is one of the largest country houses in the Netherlands. After the Second World War, it became a holiday resort for the employees of a large Dutch bank, ABN AMRO. Later, it was opened for the general public as well. Today, the country house is a hotel restaurant. Most of the surrounding estate is owned by Vereniging Natuurmonumenten and is open for the general public.
