Strone, Cowal

St Columba's Church (also known as Strone Church) is a Church of Scotland church building in Strone, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The church is located on Shore Road at the mouth of the Holy Loch on its northern banks and near its merging with Loch Long. It is a Category C listed building.Its architect was Peter MacGregor Chalmers, who was commissioned to build a new church in 1908. He retained the original church tower, adding a Romanesque entrance at its base. It is believed the material from the old church was re-used on the exterior, and Corrie sandstone used in the interior. Its spire is made of ashlar.

Blairmore is a village located on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Blairmore lies within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. It is situated on the western shore of Loch Long and around 1 mile (1.6 km) north of Strone. The village was largely built during the Victorian era and has a small wooden pier which dates to 1855.

Hunters Quay (Scottish Gaelic: Camas Rainich) is a village, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scottish Highlands. Situated between Kirn to the south and Ardnadam to the north, Hunters Quay is the main base of Western Ferries, operating between Hunters Quay and McInroy's Point.

Kirn & Sandbank Parish Church is a Church of Scotland church building in Kirn, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It also serves the population of nearby Sandbank. The church is located on Kirn Brae at its junction with Marine Parade, which leads to and from Dunoon, about a mile to the southwest. Constructed in the Romanesque style, it is a Category B listed building.Its architect was Peter MacGregor Chalmers. Its red sandstone was brought from a quarry at Corrie on the Isle of Arran.

Hafton House (also known as Hafton Castle) is a Category B listed country house in Hunters Quay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The property is located on the southern shores of the Holy Loch. It dates to the late 18th century, built to a design by David Hamilton, and it received its historic designation in 1971. It is two storeys, with a higher tower.One of its first owners was James Hunter (1814–1854). As of 1841, Hunter was living at Hafton "age 25 (sic), of independent means, with his wife [Eliza] and children, Eliza age 4, James age 3 and William age 4 months, as well as other Hunter relatives and 7 female servants". At least one other child — a daughter, Rosina Jane — was born later. James Hunter Sr. was still resident there in 1851, age 37. James Hunter Jr. purchased nearby Dunloskin Farm in the 1870s.In the 1870s, the property was 5,740 acres.The grounds also contain a gatehouse and a bridge.

Kirn is a village in Argyll and Bute in the Scottish Highlands on the west shore of the Firth of Clyde on the Cowal peninsula. It now forms part of the continuous habitation between Dunoon and Hunters Quay, where the Holy Loch joins the Firth of Clyde. It originally had its own pier, with buildings designed by Harry Edward Clifford in 1895, and was a regular stop for the Clyde steamer services, bringing holidaymakers to the town, mostly from the Glasgow area.

Erected in 1922, the Lazaretto Point War Memorial (known colloquially as the Lazaretto Memorial) is located in the Scottish village of Ardnadam in Argyll and Bute. It stands, at the apex of sharp bend in the A815, around the midpoint of the southern shores of the Holy Loch. It was designed by Boston, Menzies & Morton, of Greenock, and unveiled on 14 May 1922. It commemorates the local soldiers who died during service in World War I and World War II.Mrs John Brown, of nearby Sandbank, performed the unveiling. Five of her sons served in the conflicts, one of whom was killed in action. Reverend A. MacDonald M.A., also of Sandbank, officiated at the ceremony.

Dunoon Grammar School is a secondary school in Dunoon, Cowal Peninsula, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It was founded in 1641. It is currently a non-denominational comprehensive school which covers all stages from S1 to S6 (ages 12–18).

The Holy Loch (Scottish Gaelic: An Loch Sianta/Seunta) is a sea loch, a part of the Cowal peninsula coast of the Firth of Clyde, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The "Holy Loch" name is believed to date from the 6th century, when Saint Munn landed there after leaving Ireland. Kilmun Parish Church and Argyll Mausoleum is said to stand where Saint Munn's church was once located. Robertson's Yard at Sandbank, a village on the loch, was a major wooden boat building company in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During World War II, the loch was used as a British Royal Navy submarine base. From 1961 to 1992, it was used as a United States Navy ballistic missile submarine base. In 1992, the Holy Loch base was deemed unnecessary following the demise of the Soviet Union and subsequently closed.

Kilmun (Scottish Gaelic: Cill Mhunna) is a linear settlement on the north shore of the Holy Loch, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scottish Highlands.It takes its name from the 7th century monastic community founded by an Irish monk, St Munn (Fintán of Taghmon). The ruin of a 12th-century church still stands beside the Kilmun Parish Church and Argyll Mausoleum.

Ardnadam (Scottish Gaelic: Àird nan Damh) is a village on the Holy Loch on the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is located northwest of Hunters Quay and east of Sandbank, and sits across the loch from Kilmun.
