Kenilworth Plantation House

Verret (), commonly known as Verrett or Verrettville, is an unincorporated community in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, United States. The community was originally established as a freedmen's town by formerly enslaved African Americans. In 2018, a Louisiana state historical marker was placed at the First Baptist Church of Verrettville in recognition of its significance in addition to the importance of community founder Rev. Samuel Smith.

Saint Bernard (Spanish: San Bernardo [sam beɾˈnaɾðo]) is an unincorporated community in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, United States. The community is located on Louisiana State Highway 300, east of the Mississippi River and 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Chalmette. Saint Bernard is home to four sites on the National Register of Historic Places: the Dr. Louis A. Ducros House, the Kenilworth Plantation House, Magnolia Mound, and the Sebastopol Plantation House.

The Mississippi River–Gulf Outlet Canal (abbreviated as MR-GO or MRGO) is a 76 mi (122 km) channel constructed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers at the direction of Congress in the mid-20th century that provided a shorter route between the Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans' inner harbor Industrial Canal via the Intracoastal Waterway. In 2005, the MRGO channeled Hurricane Katrina's storm surge into the heart of Greater New Orleans, contributing significantly to the subsequent multiple engineering failures experienced by the region's hurricane protection network. In the aftermath the channel was closed. A permanent storm surge barrier was constructed in the MRGO in 2009, and the channel has been closed to maritime shipping. The MRGO begins just west of I-510's crossing of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway in New Orleans East and takes a path SSE through St. Bernard Parish wetlands just west of Lake Borgne to the Gulf of Mexico near Gardner Island. Much criticized for its negative environmental effects, such as saltwater intrusion, wetlands erosion and storm surge amplification during Hurricane Katrina, the MRGO was closed in 2009. Maritime traffic was barred on April 22, 2009.

It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area. Poydras is on the East Bank of the Mississippi River, just upriver from the Plaquemines Parish line.

St. Bernard State Park is a state park located in the American state of Louisiana, on a tract of land in St. Bernard Parish, between the towns of Poydras and Caernarvon. Though located only approximately eighteen miles southeast of New Orleans, attendance had been fledgling at the park for years, ranking among the least visited in the state.

Violet is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, approximately 7.5 miles (12.1 km) southeast of New Orleans and is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner metropolitan statistical area.

Caernarvon is an unincorporated community in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, United States. The name of the community is from a plantation originally located here. The plantation's name is widely believed to be from a similarly named town and castle in Wales. Names of antebellum plantations in the American South were often reflective of European roots and aspirations of grandeur; two upriver Mississippi River plantations, Nottoway near White Castle, Louisiana, and Sans Souci near Osceola, Arkansas, are two examples of this tradition.

A Studio in the Woods is a residency for artists and scholars located in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. It is a part of the Bywater Institute of Tulane University. Its location is a mostly rural section of the lower Algiers section of the New Orleans urban area, along the west bank of the Mississippi River, occupying 7.66 acres (3.10 ha). A Studio in the Woods was founded as a haven for artists to focus on their own creativity. As the studio evolved, it became a collaboration of artists and environmentalists, with an emphasis on science-inspired art education. A Studio in the Woods serves as an environmental preserve, and a theme of the studio is for art to explore environmental issues. It is therefore an example of arts-based environmental education.

Braithwaite is an unincorporated community in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, United States. Braithwaite is located on the Mississippi River and Louisiana Highway 39 in northern Plaquemines Parish, 9.6 miles (15.4 km) southeast of New Orleans. Braithwaite has a post office with ZIP code 70040, which opened on September 19, 1902. Two of the first deaths in the United States caused by Hurricane Isaac in 2012 occurred in Braithwaite, where a couple drowned in their home on August 30.
