Derby Dam is a diversion dam built from 1903 to 1905 on the Truckee River, located about 20 miles (32 km) east of Reno in Storey and Washoe counties in Nevada, United States. It diverts water into the Truckee Canal that would otherwise enter Pyramid Lake. The canal feeds Lake Lahontan reservoir in the Carson River watershed, where it is used for irrigation.It was the first project of the newly organized U.S. Reclamation Service (known today as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation), organized by the Reclamation Act of 1902.As a result of the diversion, Winnemucca Lake lost inflow and dried up, and Pyramid Lake lost more than 80 feet (24 m) in elevation, resulting in the near-extinction of the Lahontan cutthroat trout. The dam is operated by the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District. It was named after the Derby Southern Pacific Railroad station.

Clark is an unincorporated community in northern Storey County and southern Washoe County, about 17 miles (27 km) east of Reno and Sparks. Clark can be accessed from the north via Interstate 80 on the USA Parkway exit, and from the west via roads from nearby Lockwood. Clark has also been known as Clark Siding, Clark Station, Clarks, and Clarks Siding.

The Wild Horse Adult Resort and Spa is an adult entertainment complex about 14 miles (23 km) east of Reno, Nevada, that has been home to two separate legal, licensed brothels: the Wild Horse Ranch and the Mustang Ranch. It opened in 2002 with the Wild Horse Ranch, the Mustang Ranch was added in 2005, and the Wild Horse Ranch closed in 2011. The brothel was the subject of the 2003 BBC TV documentary film Louis and the Brothel.

The Mustang Ranch is a brothel in Storey County, Nevada, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Reno. It is currently located at 1011 Wild Horse Canyon Drive, Sparks, Nevada, 89434. Under the past original owner Joe Conforte, Mustang Ranch Brothel, the precursor to Mustang Ranch, became Nevada's first licensed brothel in 1971. This eventually led to the legalization of brothels in 10 of 17 counties in the state. Mustang Ranch opened to the public in 1971 and was America's largest brothel with 166 acres (67 ha), and the most profitable.The Mustang Ranch was forfeited to the federal government in 1999 following Conforte's convictions for tax fraud, racketeering and other crimes. The Mustang Ranch was auctioned off by the Federal Government on eBay and Lance Gilman’s bid was the last bid for $145,100 and reopened the Mustang Ranch 5 miles East at the Patrick exit 28.

The Virginia Range is a mountain range of western Nevada, primarily within Storey County, and extending east into Lyon County. The range is named after James Finney, "Old Virginny", an early discoverer of gold associated with the Comstock Lode.: 5, 13–14 

Stagecoach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lyon County, Nevada, United States, located east of Reno. Its name is likely derived from its place as the Overland Stagecoach station at Desert Well. Typically, the mail that was heading towards California was delivered on a steamship through Panama. But in 1857, the Overland mail company was created, and the Desert Well station was a dual stop for both the stagecoach line and the Pony Express.As of the 2010 census, the population of Stagecoach was 1,874.

Wadsworth Union Church is a historic church at the junction of Lincoln Hwy and Railroad Avenue in Wadsworth, Nevada. It was built in 1888 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.It is a small church, just 1,120 square feet (104 m2) in area. It was deemed significant "for its historical association with the general patterns of social life in the railroad town of Wadsworth, Nevada during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries."

Wadsworth is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada. The population was 834 at the time of the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area and located entirely within the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. The town was named for General James S. Wadsworth, a Civil War general killed during the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864. It was given this name by Leland Stanford of the Central Pacific Railroad as a favor to General Irvin McDowell, whom Wadsworth had served under during the Civil War.

Fernley Community Church is a historic church at 80 S. Center Street in Fernley, Nevada. It was built in 1932 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.It is a one-story church with a rear ell, with " no real elements of an architectural style".It was deemed significant as the "building played a central role in the social life of the small rural town of Fernley, Nevada during the mid-20th century. It was the venue for many of the activities that defined community life in Fernley during the 1930s and 1940s, and particularly was the site associated with the charitable efforts of the Fernley Ladies Aid Society."

Fernley High School (also known as FHS or Fernley School) is a coeducational, secondary school located in Fernley, Nevada, United States, eastside of the Reno metropolitan area. It is the largest school in the Lyon County School District. The school participates in an advanced placement program with Western Nevada College. As of 2015, it was the highest performing school in this joint enrollment program, known as "Jump Start." The student population as of the 2018–2019 school year was 1,096, and the school has drawn hundreds of international students since 1990s.
