Fernley Community Church

The Fernley and Lassen Railway Depot in Fernley, Nevada was built in 1914, and was the eastern end of the Fernley and Lassen Railway line of the Southern Pacific Railroad, 30 miles from Reno. Also known as the Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The station is a 187-by-26-foot (57.0 m × 7.9 m) wood-frame building of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company's "Common Standard Station Plan #22" and is significant as a good surviving example of railroad pattern book architecture, and the only example of that specific plan surviving in Nevada. It was a passenger and goods depot, with accommodation for the station master on the second floor. It was part of 112-mile Fernley and Lassen Railway, which joined the Red River Lumber Company in Westwood with the main line of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, unifying the Southern Pacific Railroad's system in Oregon, Nevada, and California and providing rail transportation to farming and ranching communities in northeastern California and northwestern Nevada.Fernley station was used until 1985. In 1986, the Fernley Preservation Society bought the building from the Southern Pacific, and moved it approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast to a site on Main Street. It was named to the Nevada State Register of Historic Places in November 2001, and to the National Register of Historic Places on June 1, 2005.From 2000 to 2011, the town, later city of Fernley had a management agreement with the Fernley Preservation Society, which operated a railroad museum at the depot. The city ordered the building closed in 2011 over liability issues and took possession of it in 2014 with a view to renovating it more fully. The former Churchill School Building #4, a one-room schoolhouse from a ranch in Dayton, is located behind the depot building, where it was moved in 2000.

The Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery opened in 1990 under the administration of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. The Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery is funded by the State of Nevada and the National Cemetery Association. The cemetery is 35 miles east of Reno and is adjacent to Interstate 80, in Fernley, Nevada.

Fernley High School (also known as FHS or Fernley School) is a coeducational, secondary school located in Fernley, Nevada, United States, eastside of the Reno metropolitan area. It is the largest school in the Lyon County School District. The school participates in an advanced placement program with Western Nevada College. As of 2015, it was the highest performing school in this joint enrollment program, known as "Jump Start." The student population as of the 2018–2019 school year was 1,096, and the school has drawn hundreds of international students since 1990s.

On March 12, 2022, 18-year-old Naomi Irion disappeared from a Walmart parking lot in Fernley, Nevada, United States. A man was seen approaching Irion's car and driving away in it. She was found dead two weeks later in a ditch in rural Churchill County, having been kidnapped and shot to death. Several days before Irion's body was found, 41-year-old Troy Driver was taken into custody and charged with Irion's killing. Before going to trial, he committed suicide in his jail cell in August 2023.

Fernley is a city in Lyon County, Nevada, United States, and part of the Reno–Tahoe-Sparks metropolitan area CSA. The city was incorporated in 2001. The population of the city was 22,895 at the 2020 census, making it the 7th most populous city in Nevada.Fernley was home to the historic and one of the first Amazon.com centers in the world, which has since relocated within the metro area. Naval Air Station (TOPGUN), the U.S. Navy's Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center & TOPGUN training program since 1996, was moved nearby, to Fallon, from Naval Air Station Miramar. The city is home to the Reno-Fernley Raceway, the world's first Tesla Gigafactory 1 that produces battery packs, energy storage and electric vehicle components nearby at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, and an under-construction lithium processing plant.

Wadsworth is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada. The population was 834 at the time of the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area and located entirely within the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. The town was named for General James S. Wadsworth, a Civil War general killed during the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864. It was given this name by Leland Stanford of the Central Pacific Railroad as a favor to General Irvin McDowell, whom Wadsworth had served under during the Civil War.

Wadsworth Union Church is a historic church at the junction of Lincoln Hwy and Railroad Avenue in Wadsworth, Nevada. It was built in 1888 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.It is a small church, just 1,120 square feet (104 m2) in area. It was deemed significant "for its historical association with the general patterns of social life in the railroad town of Wadsworth, Nevada during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries."

The Fernley Hills are a mountain range southeast of Fernley in Lyon County, Nevada. Temperatures in this mountain range average summer highs around 94 °F (34 °C) and winter lows around 23 °F (−5 °C).

Derby Dam is a diversion dam built from 1903 to 1905 on the Truckee River, located about 20 miles (32 km) east of Reno in Storey and Washoe counties in Nevada, United States. It diverts water into the Truckee Canal that would otherwise enter Pyramid Lake. The canal feeds Lake Lahontan reservoir in the Carson River watershed, where it is used for irrigation.It was the first project of the newly organized U.S. Reclamation Service (known today as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation), organized by the Reclamation Act of 1902.As a result of the diversion, Winnemucca Lake lost inflow and dried up, and Pyramid Lake lost more than 80 feet (24 m) in elevation, resulting in the near-extinction of the Lahontan cutthroat trout. The dam is operated by the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District. It was named after the Derby Southern Pacific Railroad station.

Gigafactory Nevada (also known as Giga Nevada or Gigafactory 1) is a lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle component factory in Storey County, Nevada, United States. The facility, located east of Reno, is owned and operated by Tesla, Inc. The factory supplies battery packs and drivetrain components (including motors) for the company's electric vehicles, produces the Tesla Powerwall home energy storage device, and assembles the Tesla Semi. If fully built out, the building will have the largest footprint in the world.The facility is located at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRIC) and employed around 7,000 people at the end of 2018, with a goal of hiring thousands more with a total of nearly 10,000 statewide. The factory started limited production of the Tesla Powerwall home energy storage device in January 2016 using battery cells produced elsewhere and began mass production of cells in January 2017. The grand opening event was held on July 29, 2016.The factory has been designed to become entirely energy self-reliant. Tesla intends to power the structure through a combination of on-site solar, wind and geo-thermal sources. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one hundred factories like Giga Nevada would be necessary to transition the world to sustainable energy consumption without any increase in production density such as switching to a dry electrode coating process.
