West Riverside is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Uptown/Carrollton Area, its boundaries as defined by the New Orleans City Planning Commission are: Magazine Street to the north, Napoleon Avenue to the east, the Mississippi River to the south and Exposition, Tchoupitoulas and Webster Streets to the west. This has not traditionally been a separate neighborhood as most of this area has been considered part of Uptown New Orleans throughout most of its history. This name was only artificially created by the New Orleans City Planning Commission and most residents do not identify with it.

Xavier University Preparatory School was a private, Catholic high school in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament founded, owned and operated the school, having opened it in 1915 as what would eventually become Xavier University of Louisiana.Andrew Vanacore of The Times Picayune wrote in 2013 that "Xavier Prep has evolved over nearly a century into a symbol of achievement for girls from the city's black middle class." The school closed that same year, later reopened as St. Katharine Drexel Preparatory School.

Arabella Station, is a historic building on Magazine Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 4, 1996. It is now a Whole Foods for Uptown New Orleans. It has also been known as Arabella Carbarn and as Upper Magazine Station/Carbarn. It was a carbarn for storage and parking of streetcars. It was designed by New Orleans city engineer Linus W. Brown. It was built by the Youngstown Bridge Co.The building now houses a Whole Foods Market, which opened in December 2002, and off-street parking for the market.

Hansen's Sno-Bliz is a snowball stand located in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A., on Tchoupitoulas Street at Bordeaux Street. It opened in 1934 and is believed to be the 2nd oldest sno-ball stand in the United States after Walther Gardens (Baltimore, 1928). It has been operated continuously by the Hansen family. After Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent death of founders Ernest and Mary Hansen, the shop closed for some time before being reopened by their granddaughter Ashley Hansen, in early summer of 2006. The shop is open annually from March to October.In 2014, Hansen's received an America's Classics award at the James Beard Foundation Awards.Sno-balls in Louisiana are similar to what the rest of the country calls snow cones, but they are made with more-finely-shaved ice and a large variety of homemade syrups.

New Orleans University was a historically black college that operated between 1869 and 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. It was founded by Freedmen's Aid Society and the Methodist Episcopal Church. It merged with Straight College in 1935 to form Dillard University.

Gilbert Academy was a premier preparatory school for African American high school students in New Orleans, Louisiana. Begun in 1863 in New Orleans as a home for colored children orphaned by the American Civil War, the home moved to Baldwin, Louisiana in 1867. The Orphans Home evolved into a school and, over the next 80 years, became Gilbert Academy, a college preparatory school for African Americans. Gilbert Academy returned to New Orleans, achieved accreditation by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges, and graduated many notable students until it closed in 1949.

De La Salle High School is a private, Catholic secondary school run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in New Orleans, Louisiana. The school's campus is located at the picturesque St. Charles Avenue in uptown New Orleans, near the Audubon/University District. It was founded by the De La Salle Brothers in 1949. De La Salle High School offers grades 8 through 12. The school is affiliated with the Lasallian mission, and functions within the school system of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans.

The St. Peter A.M.E. Church, or St. Peter African Methodist Episcopal Church, in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a historic church which was founded about 1850. It is one of the oldest black congregations in the New Orleans area. Its building, at 1201 Cadiz Street at the corner with Coliseum St., in a residential neighborhood, was built in 1858 was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The church was deemed significant in black history, and architecturally, as "the present church building is one of the most outstanding black churches in the state. Although St. Peter's African Methodist Episcopal Church has been modified over the years, it retains a degree of architectural significance owing to its size and to its use of two high style features which are seldom found in black churches. These are the shingle style side tower and the relatively elaborate stained glass windows of the nave."
