Wekiwa Springs State Park

Dr. Howard A. Kelly Park, often called Kelly Park, is a protected area which is owned by Orange County, Florida. It lies about 17 miles (27 kilometers) northwest of Orlando. It shares some of its boundaries with Wekiwa Springs State Park and Rock Springs Run State Reserve. The Rock Springs Run, a 10-mile (16 km)-long tributary of the Wekiva River, has its source near the northern boundary of Kelly Park. Much of the park is shaded by temperate-zone trees such as red maple, American sweetgum, several species of hickory and oak, and one of the southernmost natural populations of tulip tree. Many subtropical plants are also present with cabbage palmetto prominent among them. The forests are supported by poorly drained soils which have developed from marine sands and clays. The topsoils are usually dark gray or black fine sands which are acidic (slightly so in some cases). The gray or brownish gray subsoils range in texture from sand to sandy clay, and are less acid than the topsoils. Some are moderately alkaline with free calcium carbonate. The park's largest animals are alligator, white-tailed deer and possibly black bear. Many species of smaller animals also occur.

Florida Central Academy was college preparatory boarding school in Mount Plymouth, Florida. It was founded as a school for boys by Colonel L. E. Allen and General T. L. Alexander in 1959 and classes began with the 1960–61 school year. There were a total of 23 senior classes. In 1971 the school became fully co-educational. The campus was situated on 45 acres (182,000 m2). The school was closed in 1983.

Mount Plymouth is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the CDP population was 4,011, up from 2,814 in 2000. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Sorrento is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Lake County, Florida, United States. The population was 861 at the 2010 census, up from 765 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Apopka is a city in Orange County, Florida. The city's population was 55,000 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Apopka comes from Seminole word Ahapopka for "potato-eating place".Apopka is referred to as the "Indoor Foliage Capital of the World" due to the many greenhouse nurseries there.

Rock Springs Run State Reserve is a 14,000-acre (5,700 ha) State Park in the U.S. state of Florida. The main entrance is located about 30 miles (48 km) north of Orlando in Sorrento, 3 miles (4.8 km) west of the Wekiva River bridge on State Road 46 and extends into Orange and Seminole Counties to the south. The park contains a number of Indian mounds, pine flatwoods, swamps and artesian springs, and a number of creeks and rivers. Among them are Seminole Creek, Wekiwa Springs Run, Rock Springs Run, and the Wekiva River. Activities include bicycling, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, hunting and wildlife viewing. Among the wildlife of the park are Florida black bear, Florida scrub jay, sandhill crane, indigo snake, gopher tortoise. Amenities include a canoe and kayak launch, rentals, swimming, tubing, about 17 miles (27 km) of trails, access to the Rock Springs Run and the Wekiva River, primitive canoe and equestrian camping facilities. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. year round.

Apopka High School is in Apopka in northwest Orange County, Florida, United States. The school has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.The school serves grades 9 through 12, and has a preschool with a main teacher and student teachers.

Plymouth is an unincorporated area in Orange County, Florida, United States, northwest of downtown Apopka along US 441 (SR 500) (Orange Blossom Trail), at the intersection with Plymouth-Sorrento Road. It features the Pinsly Railroad Company's Florida headquarters and part of the Florida Central Railroad. It is statistically part of the Greater Orlando area.

The Mitchell–Tibbetts House (also known as the Miner House) is a historic home in Apopka, Florida. It is located at 21 East Orange Street. On November 7, 1991, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The house was built for R.N. Mitchell, a pioneer in the Apopka area. It was later owned by George W. Tibbetts, a general in the Union Army.

The Waite-Davis House (also known as the Leslie P. Waite House) is a historic home in Apopka, Florida. It is located at 5 South Central Avenue. On August 2, 1990, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Twin Mounds Archeological District, also known as Wekiva 7 (8Or457) & Wekiva 8 (8Or459), is a U.S. historic district east of Sorrento, Florida. It is located on the west bank of the Wekiva River, seven miles south of its confluence with the St. Johns River. On January 19, 1992, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
