Caythorpe, Lincolnshire

Frieston is a village in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated just west of the A607 road, and 7 miles (11 km) north from the market town of Grantham. Frieston is conjoined to the southern part of the village of Caythorpe. Frieston lies within Caythorpe civil parish. Local government has been arranged in this way since the reorganisation of 1 April 1974, which resulted from the 1972 Local Government Act. Hitherto, the parish had formed part of the Parts of Kesteven. Kesteven was one of the three divisions (formally known as parts) of the traditional county of Lincolnshire. Since the 1888 Local Government Act Kesteven had been, in most respects, a county in itself. This seems to be an example of the migration of a village. 'Frieston' is a name which belongs to the 5th-century settlement of Britain by Anglo-Saxons, in this area mainly Angles, but in this case Frisians. The thorpe element of Caythorpe indicates a secondary settlement by Vikings, in this case probably Danes, at some time between 800 and 1050.

St Vincent's Church is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire, England. It is at the southern edge of the Lincoln Cliff in South Kesteven, and 10 miles (16 km) north from Grantham. St Vincent's is only one of four churches in England dedicated to Vincent of Saragossa. The church is noted in particular for its double nave (one of only four existing in England), and monuments to Sir Charles and Sir Edward Hussey, and to the 18th-century astronomer Edmund Weaver. The church is in the ecclesiastical parish of Caythorpe, and is one of the Caythorpe Group of churches in the Deanery of Loveden and the Diocese of Lincoln. Other churches within the group are St Nicholas' at Fulbeck, and St Nicholas' at Carlton Scroop with Normanton.

Caythorpe railway station was a station in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire. Built to serve the nearby village of the same name. It was on the Grantham and Lincoln railway line. The line was built by the Great Northern Railway. The station closed for passengers in 1962, for goods in 1964 and the line closed in 1965 as part of the Beeching rationalisation of the UK railway system. The site now houses a recycling centre for household waste. The Great Northern Railway (GNR) was a British railway company established by the Great Northern Railway Act 1846 (9 & 10 Vict. c. lxxi). On 1 January 1923 the company lost its identity as a constituent of the newly formed London and North Eastern Railway. The line, opened in 1867, ran through land at Caythorpe owned by GNR chairman George Hussey Packe. Packe's land was the first in south-west Lincolnshire to be mined for iron ore. Opencast workings were either side of the line and used narrow gauge links to rail heads on the line.

St Nicholas Church is a redundant Anglican church in Normanton-on-Cliffe, Lincolnshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands beside the road between Grantham and Lincoln.

Normanton-on-Cliffe, sometimes known as Normanton, is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It lies on the A607 road, about 7 miles (11 km) north of the town of Grantham and 18 miles (29 km) south of Lincoln.

Fulbeck is a small village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population (including Byards Leap) taken at the 2011 census was 513. The village is on the A607, 9 miles (14 km) north from Grantham and 8 miles (13 km) north-west from Sleaford. To the north is Leadenham, and to the south, Caythorpe.

St Nicholas' Church is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church dedicated to Saint Nicholas, in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, England. The church is 9 miles (14 km) north from Grantham, and at the southern edge of the Lincoln Cliff in South Kesteven. St Nicholas' is noted in particular for its association with and memorials to the Fane family of Fulbeck Hall, and its Norman-Transitional period font. The church is within the Fulbeck conservation area. It is in the ecclesiastical parish of Fulbeck, and is part of the Caythorpe Group of churches in the Deanery of Loveden and the Diocese of Lincoln. Other churches in the same group are St Vincent's at Caythorpe, and St Nicholas' at Carlton Scroop with Normanton.

Caythorpe Court is a Grade II* listed former hunting lodge situated about one mile to the east of Caythorpe, Lincolnshire, England. It was originally built in 1901 for Edgar Lubbock, a brewer and banker, to the designs of Sir Reginald Blomfield. In 1946 it became the Kesteven Agricultural College, which was renamed the Lincolnshire College of Agriculture and Horticulture from September 1980. The college became the De Montfort School of Agriculture, but the site was closed in 2002. After being sold to property developers, who proposed to use it to house asylum seekers, it was acquired by PGL who now operate it as a centre for adventure based holidays for adults and children.

Hough-on-the-Hill is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish including Brandon was 399 at the 2011 census. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) due north from the market town of Grantham. The hamlets of Gelston and Brandon are part of the parish. Hough-on-the-Hill is on a significant rise, hence the name.

Claypole was a rural district in Lincolnshire, Parts of Kesteven from 1894 to 1931. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 from that part of the Newark-on-Trent rural sanitary district which was in Kesteven (the rest going to form the Newark Rural District in Nottinghamshire). It was abolished in 1931 under a County Review Order, being split between the new rural districts of North Kesteven and West Kesteven.

Carlton Scroop is a small village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish (including Normanton) at the 2011 census was 304. It is situated 6 miles (10 km) north-east from the market town of Grantham and 4 miles (6 km) east from the village of Hougham. The A607 road to Lincoln passes through the centre of the village.

Leadenham House is a Grade II* listed Georgian country house in Leadenham, Lincolnshire, England. The house is constructed in '2½ storeys' of ashlar and dressed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate hipped roof with a 7 bay frontage to the west. North and South faces, of 4 bays, are identical. The House stands in parkland surrounded by 3,000 acres of farmland. The gateway of similar Ashlar construction is also a listed building.
