Baillieston railway station

Baillieston (Scots: Bylliestoun or Bailiestoun) is a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. It is about 7 miles (11 km) east of the city centre. It also gives its name to Ward 20 of Glasgow City Council and forms part of the Glasgow East constituency of the UK Parliament.

Broomhouse (Scots: Bruimhoose) is a residential area in Glasgow, Scotland. It is about 6 miles (10 km) east of the city centre. Historically a small mining village and later the site of the Glasgow Zoo, in the early 21st century it grew substantially as an affluent commuter suburb. Although close to Baillieston and within the Glasgow boundaries, the neighbourhood has a G71 postcode which has often led to it being associated with Uddingston, the main town for that district which is about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) to the south-east in the South Lanarkshire local authority area.

Glasgow Zoo, or Calderpark Zoo, was a 99-acre (40 ha) zoological park in Baillieston, Glasgow, Scotland. The zoo was established in 1947 by the Zoological Society of Glasgow and West of Scotland, which was itself established in 1936. The zoo was located on the lands of the former Calderpark Estate, and during its peak attracted about 140,000 visitors a year. At the zoo's peak it contained over 600 animals and had 24 full-time and many part-time or seasonal staff. It closed in August 2003 after running up a debt of around £3.5 million and failing to renew its zookeeper licence, having been unable to meet new standards on animal welfare. In the last few years that it was open, Glasgow Zoo deteriorated mainly due to the lack of funding from the local council and due to many allegations of animal cruelty.

Calderpark Halt railway station or Calderpark for Glasgow Zoo (NS679625) served Calderpark Zoo opened in 1947 on the old estate of Calderpark and the Baillieston area of Glasgow, Scotland on the Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway between Shettleston and Hamilton. Glasgow Zoo closed in 2003.

Broomhouse railway station was opened in 1883 at Broomhouse in the Baillieston area of Glasgow, Scotland on the old Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway between Shettleston and Hamilton. The miner's rows at Boghall were close to the station site.

Baillieston Juniors Football Club were a Scottish football club based in Baillieston, Glasgow, who played in Scottish Junior Football Association competitions from 1919 until 2003. They won the Scottish Junior Cup once, in 1980.

Baillieston St Andrew's Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland, a member of the Presbyterian Church. The church building is located on the corner of Bredisholm Road and Muirhead Road, Baillieston, Glasgow, Scotland. The church today serves the town of Baillieston.

St John's Church, also known as St John's Baillieston, is a 19th-century Parish church of the Scottish Episcopal Church, in the Baillieston area of Glasgow, Scotland.

Bannerman High School is a state secondary school in the Baillieston suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. It is a non-denominational, co-educational, comprehensive school within the Glasgow City Council local education authority. The school teaches pupils from years S1 to S6. It has a capacity for 1400 pupils and has approximately 100 members of teaching staff. The current head teacher is Seonaidh Black.

The North Calder Water is a river in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It flows for 12 miles (19 km) from the Black Loch (in the Falkirk council area) via the Hillend Reservoir, Caldercruix, Plains, Airdrie, Calderbank, Carnbroe and Viewpark to the River Clyde at Daldowie, south-east of Glasgow. For the last 2 miles (3.2 km) of its course, it forms part of the boundary between North Lanarkshire (near to Birkenshaw) and Glasgow (near to Broomhouse). The name Calder is thought to be Brythonic and to mean 'hard cold flowing' water. In addition to Caldercruix and Calderbank settlements, the river is referenced in man-made features near its course, including Caldervale High School in Airdrie, Calderbraes Golf Club near Birkenshaw, Calderview Community Centre in Coatbridge, and the former Calderbank House and Calderpark Zoo at Broomhouse.

The lands of Daldowie in Glasgow, Scotland lie astride the River Clyde on the south and the North Calder Water to the east (marking the boundary with South Lanarkshire), and stretch to the present area of Broomhouse in the north (on the opposite side of the M74 motorway, with both areas served by Junction 3A). Daldowie Crematorium was constructed in 1952 by Lanarkshire County Council and opened in 1955, on the grounds of the historic Daldowie House - home of the Stewarts of Minto and George Bogle of Daldowie. His son, George Bogle the younger made an expedition to Tibet as the first British envoy to China. An elegant house was built in the 1730s and extended in the 1830s by a local ironmaster, John Dixon; of which only the dovecote survived. It was one of a string of estates strung out along the River Clyde - from Dalmarnock, through Westthorn and Dalbeth to Easterhill, which went from being country seats in the 18th century, through an exploitation of their iron and coal deposits in the 19th century, to the commercial and residential uses which predominate today - aside from the crematorium and its garden grounds, the area is now dominated by a waste water treatment works including a waste-to-fuel facility which produces biomass briquettes from the sewage solids.

Springhill is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde on the eastern edge of the city, north of the areas of Baillieston and Garrowhill and west of Swinton.Springhill consists mainly of semi-detached and detached family houses built in the 1990s, as well as Glasgow Business Park, a partly-completed industrial and commercial estate near to the neighbourhoods of Barlanark and Easthall, which features the local DVSA driving test centre and a 4-metre high landmark wire sculpture of a Clydesdale Horse by Andy Scott, who has other works on display in the vicinity - a phoenix in Easterhouse and a group of sirens at the water tower in Cranhill. The district has a few local shops as well as a pub/restaurant, but most other amenities are located in Baillieston or Easterhouse. Easterhouse railway station gives direct access to the centre of Glasgow and regular local bus services run along Edinburgh Road to the south of the district. Springhill can be accessed from the M8 motorway, using junctions 9 or 10. Sandaig Primary School and St Bridget's Primary School serve the local area, and from here pupils attend St Ambrose High School Coatbridge, and Bannerman High School.
